Ming Ye looked at Gu Xiruo and calmly said, “While there are many who like you, besides Lu Lingfeng, who else could unconditionally help you like Qing Yukong?”
“In the past, with Lu Lingfeng around, you could be fearless in dealing with Qing Yukong. However, since you and Lu Lingfeng have parted ways, even if those around you are willing to assist, how many can truly help you in such a manner?” Ming Ye asked Gu Xiruo.
Gu Xiruo didn’t appreciate Ming Ye’s words. “Ming Ye, you’re going too far.”
“I’ll be leaving next year,” Ming Ye suddenly announced.
Upon hearing Ming Ye’s statement, Gu Xiruo felt a sudden sense of unease and looked at Ming Ye disapprovingly. “Ming Ye, are you also planning to betray me?”
“I’m not your subordinate. There’s no such thing as betrayal. Our relationship is merely one of employment,” Ming Ye coldly replied.
“I owe you a favor. I promised to stay by your side for eight years, and now it’s already the seventh year. The final year, I should be leaving,” Ming Ye said coldly.
Gu Xiruo’s expression soured, feeling somewhat agitated as she looked at Ming Ye.
“Must you do this, Ming Ye? After all these years of our relationship, isn’t it enough to make you stay and help me?” Gu Xiruo asked earnestly, gazing at Ming Ye.
However, Ming Ye shook his head.
“In the past, I did consider staying to assist you, but over the past two years, after witnessing deceit towards Lu Lingfeng and disdain towards Qing Yukong, I no longer have such intentions,” Ming Ye explained.
The outcomes of these two individuals made Ming Ye realize that helping Gu Xiruo sincerely would not be appreciated. Even if they expressed gratitude, in the end, it would be seen as their duty.
Just like the current Qing Yukong.
Despite doing so much for Gu Xiruo, he ultimately received nothing but disdain from her.
Ming Ye wouldn’t dare provoke someone like that.
Gu Xiruo frowned at Ming Ye, indicating she wanted to say something, but Ming Ye spoke first: “Gu Xiruo, I advise you to treat Qing Yukong well. Otherwise, you will surely regret it in the future.”
This was the second person to say such words to her, the first being Lu Lingfeng.
When she sought out Lu Lingfeng knowing his identity, he also advised her similarly.
To live well with Qing Yukong, or else she would regret it.
Now, with Ming Ye echoing the sentiment, Gu Xiruo felt irritated. “I won’t regret it.”
Gu Xiruo has never cared for Qing Yukong; she only values power and status.
Given power and status, Gu Xiruo could develop feelings for someone; otherwise, their relationship is merely based on utility.
Gu Xiruo’s behavior even evoked sympathy from Ming Ye towards Qing Yukong.
Having said what needed to be said, Ming Ye felt that whatever Gu Xiruo chose to do next was her own business and didn’t concern him much.
Lou Manqing thoroughly enjoyed watching the drama in the Qing family, particularly finding Qing Yukong’s attitude towards Gu Xiruo quite fascinating.
Gu Xiruo indeed had some skills to be able to have Ming Ye by her side assisting her.
Thinking that such news shouldn’t be kept to himself alone, Lou Manqing happily went to find Wang Jinhe.
“Would you like to hear some good news, Sister-in-law? I have something to share with you,” Lou Manqing asked Wang Jinhe.
“What is it? Please tell me.”
“It’s about Gu Xiruo and Qing Yukong. Qing Yukong has restricted Gu Xiruo’s movements, but she had a skilled individual by her side who injured the guards watching over her,” Lou Manqing said straightforwardly, raising an eyebrow as he looked at Wang Jinhe.
Wang Jinhe looked surprised. “Is this true? How does Qing Yukong feel about this?”
“Qing Yukong is furious. He’s investigating everything Gu Xiruo has been up to recently. Once he finds out that Gu Xiruo turned the situation in her favor while he was absent, creating quite a stir, who knows how he’ll react?” Lou Manqing said, already looking forward to the outcome.
Not just Lou Manqing, even Wang Jinhe was highly intrigued.
“Do you know who the skilled individual by Gu Xiruo’s side is?” Wang Jinhe curiously inquired.
Gu Xiruo seems to have quite a few skilled individuals by her side.
“It’s Ming Ye, the young master of the Ming family. I only found out about this today,” Lou Manqing expressed surprise at Ming Ye’s unexpected allegiance to Gu Xiruo.
“This person must have some issues with his head.”
“Can you reach out to him? Have a good chat with him? I want to understand why he’s following Gu Xiruo,” Wang Jinhe requested.
“I can. I have some connections with the Ming family. If there’s something to say to Ming Ye, he should be receptive,” Lou Manqing assured.
“Great. Go talk to him. I want to know how many people are still by Gu Xiruo’s side.”
“I’ll handle this matter.”
Lou Manqing set out to find a way to speak with Ming Ye, while Wang Jinhe pondered over Gu Xiruo’s situation.
Gu Xiruo indeed had some remarkable abilities to gather so many men to support her.
Lou Manqing quickly found an opportunity and intercepted Ming Ye at the nearest inn.
Ming Ye, frowning, asked, “What do you want from me?”
“It’s nothing significant. I’m just curious about how the young master of the Ming family ended up following a woman like Gu Xiruo,” Lou Manqing inquired.
Frowning at Lou Manqing, Ming Ye questioned, “Is this your curiosity or the Princess’s?”
“Naturally, both are curious, especially me.” Ming Ye knew his own temperament well, and the fact that he was now by Gu Xiruo’s side, seemingly devoted, was indeed an unprecedented situation.
“I owe Gu Xiruo a favor and agreed to help her for a few years. I’ll be leaving next year. Gu Xiruo is someone who only values power and status. Lu Lingfeng was lucky to break ties with her. As for Qing Yukong, he’s somewhat pitiful, pouring his genuine feelings into a lost cause,” Ming Ye sympathetically explained.
Despite knowing the situation, Lou Manqing couldn’t help a slight twitch at the corner of his mouth upon hearing Ming Ye’s words.
“Do you know why Qing Yukong treats Gu Xiruo so well? It’s just mindless kindness,” Lou Manqing remarked.
Ming Ye chuckled and nodded, “You’ve asked the right person. I do have some insight into this.”
“Qing Yukong treats Gu Xiruo so well simply because they have a long history together as childhood friends or even engaged partners. Qing Yukong has always been kind to Gu Xiruo. Additionally, Gu Xiruo knows how to play her part. She appears gentle and naive in front of Qing Yukong, like a sweet and innocent girl, while she can be cunning and ruthless in front of others. She was capable of causing her own cousin to be disabled in the past, let alone now.”
Lou Manqing had expected some extraordinary secret between Qing Yukong and Gu Xiruo, but it turned out to be rather mundane.
“I thought there might be some hidden secrets between them, but it seems it’s all just plain dull,” Lou Manqing remarked.
