Gu Xiruo looked at Gu Yanqi’s unkind demeanor and remarked, “You’re just jealous of me.”
Gu Yanqi couldn’t be bothered to engage with Gu Xiruo any further. If she insisted on calling it jealousy, then so be it; he had nothing more to say.
As Gu Xiruo realized that Gu Yanqi was completely ignoring her, her words felt as though they landed on deaf ears. It was the first time she experienced such powerlessness.
Everything Gu Sheng had done before was for her, but now, with the sudden loss of that treatment, Gu Xiruo found it unbearable.
Glancing at Gu Yanqi, Gu Xiruo stated, “Just wait and see.”
Gu Yanqi smirked dismissively at Gu Xiruo’s words, indicating that she had yet to recognize the issues within herself.
Having alienated both Gu Sheng and Qing Yukong, what would Gu Xiruo do next? Surprisingly, Gu Yanqi was starting to look forward to what would unfold with Gu Xiruo in the future.
After leaving Gu Yanqi’s residence, Gu Xiruo went straight to Gu Sheng’s place.
Upon seeing Gu Xiruo, Gu Sheng no longer displayed their past intimacy and instead greeted her with a cold and distant expression, asking, “Why are you here?”
“Dad, Gu Yanqi bullied me,” Gu Xiruo complained as if the previous events had never occurred, looking at Gu Sheng with a sense of grievance.
Observing Gu Xiruo’s distressed appearance, Gu Sheng was momentarily at a loss for words.
Previously labeled as useless, now she was turning to him for help.
“Telling me this is futile. I am nothing but a useless person; I can’t assist you with these matters,” Gu Sheng stated indifferently.
Being a useless person without any abilities, as Gu Xiruo had previously described him, there was little he could do to help her.
If she had said such things before, why come to him now?
Gu Xiruo looked at Gu Sheng in astonishment, “Dad, what’s wrong with you? Have I done something wrong?”
Gu Sheng chuckled and shook his head, “You haven’t done anything wrong. I am the one who has erred.”
“Dad…”
“Remember the things you said before? That I am a useless person. If that’s the case, don’t come to me for help in the future. This useless person can’t assist you,” Gu Sheng remarked with a smile.
Upon hearing Gu Sheng’s words, Gu Xiruo furrowed her brows slightly, “Dad, I was just speaking casually without any other meaning. Why are you getting upset?”
Gu Sheng seemed overly sensitive, didn’t he? She had merely spoken offhandedly, and he was holding onto it so tightly.
As Gu Xiruo displayed her discontent, Gu Sheng let out a soft sigh, realizing that she still hadn’t fully grasped the extent of her actions.
“If you have no further business here, you may leave. I won’t detain you any longer. I’ll see you off,” Gu Sheng said calmly.
Gu Xiruo stared blankly at Gu Sheng, surprised that he was actually asking her to leave.
“Dad, are you really telling me to go?”
“Go. I’ve done what I could to help you. From now on, you must walk your own path,” Gu Sheng stated as he looked at Gu Xiruo in silence.
“I’ve protected you for twenty years. Now that you’ve grown up and have your own abilities, I can no longer protect you. Take care of yourself,” he added.
Gu Xiruo’s expression darkened upon hearing Gu Sheng’s words, “I don’t agree. You promised to always be there for me. Now, ignoring me, what does that mean?”
“This is what you wanted, isn’t it? Since you yourself look down on me as your father, I won’t disrupt your life anymore. Your affairs are no longer my concern,” Gu Xiruo’s previous hurtful words had deeply wounded Gu Sheng’s heart, leaving him with no desire to involve himself in her matters.
From now on, she could do as she pleased, as she no longer had any ties to him.
Upon hearing Gu Sheng’s words, Gu Xiruo completely lost her composure, pointing at him in anger, “Shut up! Did I say something wrong?”
“If you hadn’t been incapable of securing the position of the Gu family’s patriarch for me, would I have to face Gu Yanqi now? This is all your fault. Not only do you fail to reflect on it, but you also speak like this. Have you ever considered my feelings?” Gu Xiruo’s words were somewhat disjointed, failing to notice Gu Sheng’s expression of hatred and disappointment.
After Gu Xiruo finished speaking, Gu Sheng calmly looked at her and asked, “Are you done talking?”
Gu Xiruo found herself unable to speak the words that were on the tip of her tongue, especially as she looked into Gu Sheng’s calm eyes, sensing a profound disappointment, making her feel uncomfortable.
She hadn’t been disappointed in Gu Sheng, so why was he disappointed in her?
With these thoughts, the unease in Gu Xiruo’s heart dissipated in an instant.
“Escort her out, and in the future, if she returns, don’t inform me. Her affairs are no longer our concern,” Gu Sheng instructed the servant standing nearby.
Furious, Gu Xiruo couldn’t believe that Gu Sheng would say such things.
“Gu Sheng, don’t think I can’t live without you,” Gu Xiruo’s words, particularly addressing him by his name, completely enraged Gu Sheng. In a fit of anger, he raised his hand and slapped Gu Xiruo across the face.
“Gu Xiruo, is this how I raised you since childhood? To show such disrespect to your elders?” Gu Sheng was shocked that Gu Xiruo had dared to address him by his name.
Now that things had escalated to this point, what would stop her from taking his life in the future?
Gu Xiruo was stunned by the slap.
“You hit me, again?” Gu Xiruo couldn’t believe it as she looked at Gu Sheng.
Someone who had once been so kind to her was now raising a hand against her, not once but twice.
“I hit you because you deserved it. Gu Xiruo, I never imagined you would turn out this way,” Gu Sheng expressed his disbelief. If he had known that Gu Xiruo would end up like this, how could he have committed so many harmful acts against Wang Jinhe for her sake?
“I gave up my own biological daughter for you, even assisted in trying to take her life, and this is how you treat me?” Gu Sheng’s eyes were filled with a mix of hatred and regret as he gazed at Gu Xiruo.
His son had warned him before that he would regret his actions. Now, he truly regretted them.
Abandoning his outstanding biological daughter for someone with no blood relation and even contemplating taking his own daughter’s life – the mere thought of his past actions made Gu Sheng wish he could slap himself.
How could he have done such things?
“So now you regret helping me, right? Unfortunately, regrets are of no use. Wang Jinhe will never accept you as her father,” Gu Xiruo, equally angered by Gu Sheng, spoke each word with emphasis.
Gu Sheng looked coldly at Gu Xiruo, “This has nothing to do with you.”
Before Gu Xiruo could say anything further, Gu Sheng, with a stern expression, commanded, “Get out.”
Once again banished by Gu Sheng, Gu Xiruo couldn’t bear to stay any longer and left without turning back.
As she departed, she looked back at Gu Sheng and uttered, “I will make you regret treating me this way today.”
Gu Sheng wished he could have slapped her again, muttering, “I regret not doing it sooner.”
If he had acted earlier, he might not have lost his own biological daughter.
Gu Xiruo’s departure guaranteed that Gu Sheng would regret his actions.
News of the incident quickly reached Gu Yanqi.
Upon hearing about it, Gu Yanqi sarcastically chuckled, “It’s too late for regrets now.”
