Chapter 33: A Crying Child Gets Milk
When Zhao Xiulan heard that the food she brought back was to be given to Ma Yumei, she felt somewhat unhappy. But as long as they lived together, Ma Yumei would definitely have a share of whatever Zhao Xiulan brought home. Unless they separated in the future, she didn’t say anything about it.
“Okay, Dad, then let’s have sorghum noodles tonight. There’s so much, enough for two good meals! We’ll cook a bit more tonight, so we can all eat our fill. Me and Xiu Zhu haven’t had a good meal in a long time. We don’t even know what it feels like to be full. Thanks to the kind person today…”
Zhao Xiulan played a little trick, deliberately expressing her grievances in front of Zhao Weiguo. She wanted to tell Zhao Weiguo how pitiful and difficult the situation was now for her and Zhao Xiu Zhu.
As the saying goes, a crying child gets milk. Only when Zhao Weiguo knew how difficult their lives were, only then would he start to favour them.
Like the previous host, who was too sensible and kept all grievances to himself, Zhao Weiguo didn’t feel anything before and wouldn’t help the two sisters.
Just now, Zhao Weiguo was too happy to learn that Zhao Xiulan had managed to beg for grain, so he neglected to think about how Zhao Xiulan obtained the grain.
She said it was given by a kind-hearted person who saw she was too thin and pitiful.
Suddenly, Zhao Weiguo’s heart felt a little sour.
As a father, he was really incompetent. Since he married Ma Yumei, he hadn’t cared about Zhao Xiulan and Zhao Xiu Zhu at all.
Although they were daughters, not sons, they were still his own children. A father should care about his children.
Looking at these two girls now, both thin and skinny, without an ounce of flesh on them. Because they ate so poorly, both of them had pale faces and could be blown down by a gust of wind.
Then look at Li Lijuan, who was raised much better than them.
Without thinking, Li Lijuan’s life was much better than his two daughters’.
Normally, Li Lijuan definitely received more food and drink than Zhao Xiulan and Zhao Xiu Zhu.
Zhao Weiguo thought that in the future, he must make it up to his two daughters and not make the same mistakes as before…
When Ma Yumei heard Zhao Xiulan say this, she was a little dissatisfied and said, “With just this little sorghum noodles, how can everyone eat so much? I’m afraid it’s only enough for two meals. Once it’s finished, it’s gone. Weiguo, I think it’s better to leave it for me to eat alone. After all, I still have a little one in my belly. I’ve been eating coarse grains all the time, and my stomach feels uncomfortable. I’m sure the little one is also uncomfortable because of what I eat. I can eat a little less, but I’m afraid it will upset the little one in my stomach…”
Zhao Xiulan secretly sneered. Ma Yumei was really disgusting, always bringing up the child in her stomach.
Other pregnant women in the village still had to work. Which family wasn’t struggling? Even pregnant women couldn’t eat enough.
The Zhao family had already given everything to Ma Yumei, and Ma Yumei still wanted to hog this little bit of sorghum noodles!
After Ma Yumei finished speaking, Li Lijuan quickly followed up and said, “Yes, Uncle Zhao, my mom is pregnant, so shouldn’t we leave this little sorghum noodles for my mom to eat? If everyone eats it, it will be gone after two meals. What will my mom eat in the future?”
Li Lijuan was calculating that sorghum noodles couldn’t be cheap for Zhao Xiulan and Zhao Xiu Zhu.
If all the sorghum noodles were left for Ma Yumei to eat, her mother could always sneak out a little bit for her to eat in secret, so it wouldn’t end up in the mouths of Zhao Xiulan and Zhao Xiu Zhu.
