Chapter 2: Being a Mother Is Just Too Exhausting
When a villainess messes around enough, if Heaven won’t punish her, the author will make sure to kill her off—otherwise, how could readers possibly be satisfied?
Qiu Yinuo only knew that the villainess died young, but she couldn’t quite remember how she died.
With over a thousand chapters of that old lady’s dragging, rambling story, she could barely sit through a few dozen before she started skipping around. Because of that, she completely missed the part about how exactly the villainess met her end.
If she had known she would end up transmigrating into this novel, she would have memorized it front to back.
The memories of the original owner flashed by too quickly. Before she could grasp anything more, another wave of searing pain tore through her body, leaving her no choice but to cry out.
“Shao Chengyuan, screw you and your whole family!”
Giving birth really hurt like hell!
“Breathe deeply, follow me—inhale, exhale!”
Qiu Yinuo had no experience whatsoever and was scared out of her wits. Her whole body was trembling.
If something went wrong now, she really could die for real.
She had only just clawed her way back to life, and she was determined to hold onto it this time.
She did everything the doctor and midwife asked, doing her best to cooperate so she could deliver the baby as quickly as possible.
Tonight, Shao Chengyuan’s mother’s family would be taking her back to the capital, and here she didn’t even have a cent to her name. Raising a child like this would be a struggle.
“I see the head. One more push!”
“Ahhh!” So what if you could see it? Did you really have to press down on my belly like that?
Mother-in-law, wait for me. When better days come, let’s enjoy them together!
Qiu Yinuo pushed with all her might, using every last ounce of strength she had. Out of the corner of her eye, she caught a glimpse of the night sky outside the window—stars scattered across it, beautiful in a way she couldn’t describe.
“Focus, mother-to-be. How are you getting distracted while giving birth?”
“Sorry, I’m focused, really… Ah! It hurts so much!”
The doctors and nurses exchanged glances. “…”
She pushed with all her strength, as if her life depended on it—until, at last, something slipped free from her body. It felt like a heavy burden she’d carried for ages had finally been released.
The moment she heard the baby’s first cry, a wave of relief washed over her, and her entire body relaxed.
It was finally over. The pain had been unbearable, almost enough to break her.
She knew one thing for sure: she was never going through this again.
“September 11th, 11:48 PM. Delivered a male infant, weighing five pounds and one ounce.”
The nurse’s professional report echoed in her ears. Qiu Yinuo, already imagining the better days to come, tried to get up from the delivery bed without a second thought.
Before she could move, the doctor firmly pressed her back down without mercy. “Don’t move. Save your strength. There’s still one more in your belly.”
For a moment, it felt like the top of Qiu Yinuo’s head had been blown right off.
Was fate slapping her in the face already?
“What? Another one?” she asked in disbelief. “Are you sure?”
Shao Chengyuan, you’re really something. Looks like we’ve got a major grudge now. One shot, two hits? Really?
She had no idea how much time passed after that. Exhausted beyond belief, she eventually delivered the second baby.
Half-conscious, Qiu Yinuo glanced at the window again. The Big Dipper was still shining brightly in the sky.
The nurse’s voice drifted faintly to her ears. “September 12th, 12:02 AM. Delivered another male infant, weighing five pounds and two ounces.”
…
Shao Xingchen slowly opened his eyes, staring at the blurry world in front of him. He nearly flipped out right then and there.
He vaguely remembered that he was rushing to the next filming set. The car was speeding, and before he could warn the driver, two out-of-control cars came hurtling straight toward them.
Something pinned him down, preventing any movement. After that, he blacked out completely.
At the time, he had thought, That’s it, I’m done for.
He never expected that he wouldn’t die, but his eyes would almost go blind instead.
Everything he looked at was fuzzy. Shao Xingchen opened his mouth to call for someone, but the sound that came out was nothing more than babyish gurgles.
He was terrified. Wait—was that his voice?
He instinctively tried to lift his arm, but it seemed bound by something and wouldn’t budge.
He turned his little head around, searching for a familiar face.
“Comrade Qiu, you’d better contact your family as soon as possible. You can’t take care of two babies on your own.”
Qiu Yinuo looked out the window. The sky was already bright. Her mother-in-law had probably reached the capital by now.
Her heart sank. So the good days really weren’t meant for her.
A strange woman’s voice echoed nearby, and before Shao Xingchen could react, a woman in white scooped him up and placed him in another woman’s arms.
“The baby must be hungry. Let’s feed this little one who keeps opening his mouth to look for food!”
Qiu Yinuo stared blankly at the nurse, the baby suddenly thrust into her arms. She looked as if she hadn’t heard her clearly. “What did you say?”
“Comrade Qiu, your son is hungry.”
Shao Xingchen stared in horror at the milk-scented chest before him: “!!!”
No way. Did he…
Transmigrate?
Into a baby?!
Qiu Yinuo didn’t hesitate—she shoved the baby right back into the nurse’s arms. No. She refused.
And not only did Qiu Yinuo refuse—Shao Xingchen also resisted with all his might.
Even if he had transmigrated, his mental age was still fifteen. He understood what was happening.
Wasn’t this just plain indecent?!
But his tiny body couldn’t stand the hunger. His mouth opened wide, and he began to cry.
“Comrade Qiu, your son’s crying from hunger. Quickly feed him. Don’t be embarrassed—every first-time mom is like this. Just do it a couple of times and you’ll get used to it.”
The nurse, a kindly older woman, saw the little one gasping and sobbing for breath. Without thinking, she opened Qiu Yinuo’s gown and placed the baby back in her arms.
“I really don’t get you young people these days. What’s there to be shy about when feeding a baby?”
Just like that, without warning, Shao Xingchen took his first mouthful of milk in this new world. Even though he wanted to refuse, the gnawing hunger reminded him of some unpleasant memories.
In the end, he could only keep sucking down the milk.
Wuwu… he wasn’t clean anymore.
The little guy was too hungry to even catch his breath. Halfway through, he started choking on the milk.
His tiny face turned red, tears streaming down as he gasped, looking even more pitiful than a stray kitten.
Qiu Yinuo’s heart ached sharply. Holding the baby in her arms, she looked helplessly at the nurse. “He’s choking! What do I do?”
The nurse took the baby and gently patted his back, teaching Qiu Yinuo how to handle it if it happened again.
When she held the baby again, she was finally able to accept breastfeeding. After all, she had just experienced the pain of giving birth firsthand.
Looking down at her chubby, soft little son, the heart that had been broken by her cold-blooded nephew began to beat again.
“Comrade Qiu, you really have good genes. These two boys look just like the baby dolls on New Year posters!”
Shao Xingchen, half full, started to get sleepy. His tiny hand clutched Qiu Yinuo’s clothes. Just before falling asleep, he thought: So this is what a mother’s embrace feels like—warm, safe, and softly scented with milk.
It’s nice. I finally have a mom in this life.
After finishing feeding the older one, Qiu Yinuo fed the second baby under the nurse’s guidance.
The little guy, tasting the sweet milk, didn’t even bother opening his eyes. He drank while half asleep.
Once both babies were fed, she was so exhausted she couldn’t even straighten her back.
She was completely worn out.
Being a mother was just too exhausting.
