Chapter 12: “Safe Travels”
So this way, he could control her, even threaten her—and by then, all her things would fall right into his hands?
If Xin’er knew what he was thinking, she’d definitely think he was stupid. Afraid of that? Seriously?
Feng San took a sip of water, then stood up and walked toward Xin’er.
Li Li, watching the scene, was filled with excitement. It’s about to begin!
Xin’er looked at Feng San, who was smiling at her from up close, and was speechless. Why does this guy keep clinging to me like a ghost?
Feng San crouched down with a grin.
“Young lady, why don’t you come with us?”
She rolled her eyes. “No. Get lost.”
Feng San was annoyed but suppressed his anger.
Smiling, he said, “Little girl, don’t be ungrateful when I’m being nice.”
“Big brother already knows your secret. What if I told others that you have a magical item that can store all that stuff?”
“Don’t you think they’d all come after you? And then, little girl, you’d have nowhere to run.”
Feng San finished speaking, looking at her with a smug grin.
Xin’er tilted her head at him, then turned to Ah Da.
“What do we do, Ah Da? He found out our secret.”
“Should we just kill him?”
Feng San let out a couple of loud laughs.
“Little girl, lying like that isn’t right. But if you listen to me, I promise I won’t tell anyone.”
Xin’er looked at him like he was an idiot. Then she picked up a small stone from the ground.
Tossing it up and down in her hand, she said, “Feels nice. You’ll do.”
Feng San saw her playing with the stone and thought, She’s going to throw it at me?
Looking at the small stone in her hand, he felt even more pleased with himself.
Once I catch her, I’m going to have some fun first.
“Oh? Little girl, you want to hit me with that pebble? Are you scared stiff?”
“Come on, aim for here—” he said, tapping his own forehead. “After that, come with me.”
Xin’er stared at him, exasperated. He even leaned his head closer, all proud and smug.
Ah Da thought in disbelief, Is this guy actually asking to die? That’s a first.
“You said it yourself—don’t blame me if you die.”
Xin’er even muttered seriously to herself,
“This is a first—someone asking for this kind of thing.”
“Maybe this is just how people are outside. Oh well, I guess I’m a good person…”
“Don’t worry, it’ll just hurt for a second. Then it won’t hurt anymore.”
“I’m starting now…”
Then, she positioned the stone on her finger in a classic flicking motion.
Feng San watched her with amusement, even leaned in further.
Xin’er gently flicked her finger.
Feng San saw the stone flying toward him but didn’t flinch—in fact, he even smiled smugly.
But just as he was enjoying himself, he suddenly felt a sharp pain in his neck.
He looked at Xin’er, who was happily chewing and smiling while waving at him.
“Safe travels,” she said casually.
Then Feng San felt something warm and wet gushing from his neck.
Looking down at his chest, blood was rapidly soaking through his shirt. He tried to speak, but no words came out.
He clutched his neck with both hands, eyes wide in horror, staring at Xin’er.
Li Li and the others looked at Feng San’s back and were puzzled.
“Why’s he twitching?”
Xin’er took a branch, poked him lightly on the head, and with a soft push, Feng San collapsed with a thud, still in a seated posture.
Li Li and the others saw this and thought Xin’er had simply pushed him over.
They rushed over and pointed fingers at Xin’er, shouting,
“What’s your problem? Why’d you push Brother Feng?”
Xin’er looked at them like they were idiots. Seriously? You didn’t see it?
She didn’t bother explaining. She just pointed at the body on the ground.
It was only then that Li Li saw Feng San clearly—and the group screamed in terror.
“He’s dead!” Li Li was stunned, staring at Feng San’s gruesome state.
Pointing at Xin’er with a trembling finger, she screamed,
“You killed him!”
Xin’er frowned in annoyance, her patience running thin. She scratched her ear.
“If you keep screaming,” she said coldly,
“I’ll kill you too.”
Li Li immediately clamped her hands over her mouth and didn’t dare make a sound.
Then she and the others hurried back to their spot to gather their things.
Xin’er glanced at them, didn’t bother intervening. She was full, had drunk enough, and didn’t feel like moving.
She just lay there, crossed one leg over the other, closed her eyes, and went to sleep.
Xin’er wasn’t worried—after all, Ah Da was right beside her. If anything happened, he’d act in time.
Not long after, Li Li and the others packed up and ran off in a hurry. Before they left, Li Li shot Xin’er a look filled with hatred.
If I ever get the chance, she thought, I will kill her.
