Chapter 16
Shitou stared at his second sister’s hands without blinking, and counted with his mouth.
Xu Leshu looked at it with amusement and put the pile of money on the table.
“Did you count them? How many?”
“Twenty-seven dollars and eighty cents.” Shi Tou said in surprise without hesitation.
Xu Leshu put eighty cents in front of him and said, “I promised you that I would give you one cent for each one I sold. Although I only gave away a few, your performance today was not bad, so I’ll make it up to eighty cents for you.”
“Thank you, second sister. You are really my second father… second sister.”
Shitou held the 80 cents he earned in his hands and almost cried with joy.
Seeing the happy faces of the siblings, Old Mrs. Xu’s mouth also curled up.
When Xu’s father and mother came home from get off work in the evening, they saw eighty cents placed in front of them.
They looked at each other and saw confusion in each other’s eyes.
Father Xu put down the rubber band in his hand and said, “What’s the matter? Why are you giving us 80 cents each?”
Xu Leshu continued with her hands, “This is your labor fee. It’s the same for all of you. Help me make this. As long as I sell as many as I want, I’ll give you one cent each.”
“When this deal matures, I’ll adjust the price for you.”
“As for the extra two cents, it’s money for your scraps of cloth.”
Then he took out two more pieces and placed them in front of her: “These two pieces are what I asked you to buy today.”
“Xiao Shu, why are you calculating so carefully? We are a family. Do you think your parents still want your money?”
Old Lady Xu pushed the money in front of her: “Your father is right, what do I need your money for?”
Xu Leshu stopped what she was doing and looked up at them: “No, even though what I did may seem like a minor incident to you, it’s still one thing at a time.”
“I will not take a penny less than what you deserve. Otherwise, just stop doing it and I will find someone else to do it.”
As he said this, he stood up and was about to take the things in their hands.
Old Lady Xu patted her hands gently and looked at her unhappily: “How can you be so sure of what you say? Can’t you just keep it?”
Xu Leshu looked at Xu’s father and mother, with an expression that seemed to tell them not to do it unless they agreed.
Father Xu’s eyes were filled with satisfaction. He smiled and said to Old Lady Xu, “You have grown up and know how to care for your family.”
Old Lady Xu kept moving her hands, and said with a proud tone: “Is there any need for you to Said that our daughter must be the best. ”
“Look, you’re still studying, but you already know how to respect your family and think about your family.”
Ma Jinmei looked at the three yuan in front of her and said, “Then mom will take it.”
“It’s my duty.” Xu Leshu nodded: “After all, it was me who asked you to buy the cloth, so I should give you the money.”
As she finished her hair tie, Xu Leshu remembered something and looked at them seriously.
“Although ours is just a small production, it makes money, especially for the acquaintances from the family building we met yesterday. We can’t prevent others from following our example in the future.”
“So if anyone asks, just say I brought this back from overseas in Jing City.”
Shitou was concentrating on winding the line, but when he heard his second sister’s words, he got so excited that the line broke.
He looked up at his second sister in shock. Was she lying without thinking? Classmate from Jing City? overseas?
It was a pity to see the half-wound thread suddenly break.
“Second sister, the styles of our hair ties are quite easy to make. Even if we don’t tell anyone, people will buy them, take them apart and copy them. What if they try to steal our business?”
“Just grab it. We sell this because it’s new. When imitating ours appears on the market, we can just make new styles.”
When Shitou heard his second sister say this, he knew that his second sister knew what was going on.
I woke up at nine o’clock the next morning and as soon as I opened the door, I saw Old Lady Xu and Shi Tou concentrating on making hair ties.
“Nannan, wake up. I’ve left breakfast for you in the kitchen pot. Eat and then we’ll go set up the stall.”
Xu Leshu looked at the basket next to her and saw that there were already dozens of them.
“Grandma, how early did you and Shitou get up? Didn’t I say we would go out at noon?”
Old Lady Xu smiled at her and said, “I don’t sleep much when I’m old, so I’m just sitting around doing nothing. It’s not hard to do this.”
Shitou nodded and said, “Yes, second sister, you are the only one in our family who sleeps in and is not active in making money. Have you become stupid because of sleeping?”
Xu Leshu walked over and tapped him on the head: “Your sister’s brain is capital and money, what do you know.”
Today Xu Leshu wore a goose yellow dress and tied her hair into a high bun.
To show off the beautiful forehead and face shape, a hair tie of the same color was used.
I finish breakfast at 11 o’clock and the factory closes at 11:30, so it’s a good time to go there now. “Old sister is selling hair ties with her granddaughter again?”
Old Mrs. Xu smiled and nodded, holding the basket. “Yes, it’s okay. Let’s go kill some time.”
Since I met a lot of people in the residential building yesterday, the news spread everywhere in less than half a day.
As soon as the people left, there was a cold snort from the crowd.
“This old lady Xu really dotes on her little girl. She can only make a few cents by selling a broken hair rope, but she smiles and licks other people’s faces every day. She is really despicable.”
Several people turned their heads to look at Mrs. Chen who was speaking, but no one responded to her.
“Oh my, being a teacher is different. Look at what you said. It’s like you’re looking down on us.”
Zhao Hua was sewing clothes and sneered at Mrs. Chen’s eyes.
“The president says that everyone is equal, and the country has opened up its economy. But you, old woman Chen, are still thinking in the ancient times. It’s your lowly thoughts, right?”
“Besides, you are a teacher who was retired by the school for having questionable morals, and you still have the nerve to criticize others. They didn’t steal or rob, they just earned their living with their own abilities.”
“What’s wrong with you, Mrs. Chen? Why don’t you dare to say it in front of the owner? Why are you talking nonsense here? What are you doing here?”
“Zhao Hua.” Mrs. Chen stood up and glared at Zhao Hua.
“I didn’t say anything about you. Are you the Xu family’s lackey? You’re just biting me when you catch me.”
Zhao Hua slapped the clothes in her hands heavily, stood up and looked at her.
He grabbed Mrs. Chen’s hair without leaving any trace, pulled her to the ground, and slapped her on the mouth.
“Watch your mouth, I think you are a scabby dog. You start biting people whenever you catch them. Where did you learn this? Now you’ve bitten me.”
“Ah… Zhao Hua, I will fight you.”
Seeing the two people fighting, the people around them quickly separated them.
Mrs. Chen was obviously no match for Zhao Hua. Her mouth and face were bruised and some of her hair was pulled out.
Although Zhao Hua was also injured, her injuries were not half as severe as those sustained by Mrs. Chen.
“Bah.” Zhao Hua spat in front of Mrs. Chen.
“If I hear you spewing shit again, I won’t do such a small fight next time.”
Zhao Hua took the clothes and went upstairs, ignoring Mrs. Chen who was about to pop her eyes out.
Xu Leshu’s grandmother and her grandson had no idea what was going on in the yard. They had just set up their stall when people started passing by after get off work.
