Chapter 774: Running Out of Bamboo Shoots

Upon hearing Su Yu’s idea, everyone looked at him with strange expressions. Su Jiu couldn’t help but laugh and said, “Are you being too harsh, Xiao Yu?”

Su Yu raised an eyebrow at Su Jiu, asking, “Am I?”

“Do you need us to tell you when you already know?” Su Jiu retorted, sounding a bit annoyed.

“I think Lu Yixuan might just be driven to madness by you,” Su Jiu chuckled and shook his head.

The soldiers nearby nodded in agreement, “The Marshal is right. They are already worried about pacifying the people, and then you come up with this idea, encouraging rebellion!”

Su Yu burst into laughter, “Exactly what I was aiming for. What happens next is not my concern.”

Seeing Su Yu’s overly confident demeanor, Su Jiu decided not to say much for the time being. After all, whatever his younger brother wanted to do, there was little Lu Yixuan could do about it.

Seeing Su Jiu so calm, he surprisingly felt no burden at all.

Observing Su Jiu’s serene acceptance, Su Yu couldn’t help but chuckle, “Big brother, you think I did the right thing, don’t you?”

Giving Su Yu a disdainful look, Su Jiu replied, “What do you think?”

“I’ve already sent someone to handle it,” Su Yu stated.

“Carry on,” Su Jiu replied.

A few days later, Lu Yixuan heard the news from below and was so enraged that he smashed a set of fine tea sets. The person reporting stood nearby, too intimidated to utter a word.

“What should we do now, Your Highness?” the general asked Lu Yixuan, looking troubled. Su Yu’s move was truly ruthless.

Knowing that their food supplies are limited and the chances of successfully attacking them are slim, resorting to such devious tactics raises the question: Is this something a prince should do?

Many commoners have already been impacted and are unwilling to stay, preferring to go to Xuan Empire. Continuing down this path will bring about significant trouble. If they refuse to let the people leave, it could lead to even more complications. What if the people rebel?

They now have two choices: either allow the people to depart or provide them with sustenance. Whichever path they choose, Su Yu’s calculations are at play, leaving them in a difficult position.

Lu Yixuan is unsure of what to do next, stating, “First, we need to pacify the people. Then, we’ll assess the food reserves in Qi Empire. If there’s enough, we’ll distribute it to the people. If not, we’ll have to come up with another solution. However, I must admit, the grand gift sent by Su Yu has been received.”

They will definitely make Su Yu pay back twofold in the future.

The generals on the side couldn’t hide their frustration. Who would have thought Su Yu would act in such a manner?

“Understood.”

With the pacification efforts led by Lu Yixuan, the people finally calmed down. They were waiting to see what would happen next.

However, as days passed without any developments, the people, feeling deceived, grew restless. They gathered at the best location, where Lu Yixuan resided.

Hearing the commotion outside, Lu Yixuan couldn’t help but feel irritated. Why were the people being so bothersome? Despite the situation, why were they still holding on so tightly?

“Your Highness, if we don’t show the people concrete actions soon, we’ll be in trouble. We can’t hold out much longer like this.”

Lu Yixuan, with a grim expression, asked, “What about the investigation I ordered?”

The general shook his head with a bitter smile, “There is no food left at all.”

“What?” Lu Yixuan looked at him in disbelief.

“None at all?”

“Yes, the granaries are completely empty.” It was truly baffling how they managed to deplete the entire food supply so quickly.

This news was a heavy blow to Lu Yixuan.

“Write back to the Emperor, ask for support. Otherwise, the cities we’ve gained will slip away before we can even solidify our hold on them. We don’t want Xuan Empire to benefit from our hard work,” Lu Yixuan expressed, not willing to see their efforts fall into Su Yu’s hands.

“Understood.”

Su Yu quickly learned about the situation.

“Knowing the people are on the brink of collapse and still daring to exploit them, Lu Yixuan is quite cunning,” Su Yu remarked gleefully.

Su Jiu looked at Su Yu, feeling both amused and exasperated, and said, “Yu, don’t take pleasure in others’ misfortunes. Regardless, he is still the prince of Lu Empire.”

“Whether he’s a prince and whether I need to strategize against him are two different matters that shouldn’t be conflated,” Su Yu replied confidently.

Su Jiu was left speechless by this statement.

“That’s all nonsense,” he remarked.

“I might as well start preparing to head home,” Su Yu suddenly announced.

“Aren’t you worried about Lu Empire launching an attack on us?” Luo Yanchoked out, looking at Su Yu with irritation.

Su Yu nodded, “There’s nothing to worry about. They are struggling to survive themselves; how could they come to attack us? Besides, they know you’re with me, and they wouldn’t want to provoke you.”

Hearing Su Yu’s words, Luo Yan expressed some disappointment, saying, “It seems my spark won’t be needed after all.”

Su Yu laughed heartily, patting Luo Yan on the shoulder and jokingly remarked, “Don’t worry, there will always be a need for it in the future.”

“I’m going to blow up the Luo residence?” Luo Yan gazed intensely at Su Yu, as if seeking permission.

Su Yu reached out and gave Luo Yan a tap, saying, “There are so many people at the Luo residence who care about you. If you were to blow it up, you’d regret it later. Stop thinking about such things, understood?”

This fellow always talks about blowing up the Luo residence. What benefit would he gain from doing so? He should consider the intricate relationships involved rather than simply resorting to explosions.

Luo Yan, not taking offense at the tap, could only nod helplessly, “Brother Yu, I’ll follow your lead.”

Since Brother Yu said not to blow it up, then so be it. Perhaps he could find another way to have some fun later.

Seeing Luo Yan’s insincere agreement, Su Yu couldn’t help but understand the situation.

With a headache, Su Yu asked, “Why do you have such a grudge against the Luo family? You always talk about blowing it up.”

After careful consideration, Luo Yan replied earnestly, “It’s nothing, I just find them annoying.”

Su Yu suddenly felt a strong headache, wondering why he brought Luo Yan along in the first place.

“I regret bringing you here,” he thought to himself. Continuing to discuss this with Luo Yan might just be the end of him.

Luo Yan chuckled, not arguing against Su Yu’s statement. He didn’t dwell on the regret mentioned, realizing that after spending so much time together, it would be quite a task for  Brother Yu to send him back.

“Stop grinning foolishly and tidy up. If nothing comes up, we’ll head back immediately,” Su Yu scolded Luo Yan, giving him a pat on the back.

Is this the same clueless child he knows as Luo Yan?

“Alright, I’ve found some rare items. I’ll bring them back for Xiao Bao and the others,” Luo Yan said cheerfully.

“Good.”
