Chapter 16: Chaos Between the Xiang and Huang Families
Hearing this, a smug smile curved at the corners of Huang Wei’s mouth.
Hah, Song Kexing, so what if you used to be a rich heiress? You’re still despised by everyone.
That man you’re so desperate for? I can have him with just a wave of my hand.
Your violent outburst today? It’s nothing more than a pathetic tantrum.
Brother Xiang’s mother is known for being fierce—she’ll never let you off the hook.
I’ll be watching with wide eyes to see just how miserable your days become.
Hahaha…
Just then, the hospital room door swung open with a loud bang.
Standing at the doorway was none other than the blood-covered harbinger of doom—Song Kexing.
The smile froze on Huang Wei’s lips, and her face turned pale in an instant.
“Song Kexing, why are you here? You should’ve been taken away—”
Before she could finish, her eyes landed on the public security officer behind Song Kexing, and her heart eased a little.
As soon as the door opened, Xiang Zhiming had quickly pushed Huang Wei aside.
Their relationship wasn’t public yet—they absolutely couldn’t be seen together.
With a furrowed brow, Xiang Zhiming asked, “Comrade Officer, why did you bring her here? Shouldn’t she be at the station?”
The officer rubbed his nose. “I brought Comrade Song here to understand the situation more clearly.”
Truthfully, he’d planned to take Song Kexing to see a doctor.
But the girl refused no matter what, insisting she had to confront the two of them and explain things clearly.
Left with no choice, he brought her along—after all, they did need to investigate this case.
After hearing the officer’s explanation, Xiang Zhiming said, “What’s there to understand? Comrade Huang Wei and I were both beaten by her and ended up in the hospital. People saw it happen—it’s a fact.”
The officer looked at Song Kexing. “Comrade Song, did you assault them?”
Song Kexing didn’t deny it. “Yes, I did. But—”
“But what?” Huang Wei interrupted anxiously. “Comrade Officer, you heard her! She admitted it! Arrest her now!”
She was truly afraid that Song Kexing would pull out that so-called certificate again.
There really had seemed to be an official hospital stamp on it.
If it turned out to be real, wouldn’t that mean she got beaten for nothing?
“Let’s all calm down first,” the officer said, turning to Song Kexing. “Comrade Song, is there anything else you’d like to say?”
People tend to be more sympathetic to the vulnerable.
Although Xiang Zhiming and Huang Wei were beaten badly, they were otherwise fine.
But Song Kexing stood there, covered in blood, her appearance truly pitiful.
The officer had a warm heart and was more than willing to give her a chance to explain.
“I had a reason for hitting them,” Song Kexing said, pulling a document from her pocket and handing it to the officer. “Comrade, please take a look. This is the diagnosis certificate issued by Director Hu from the People’s Hospital this afternoon.
It states clearly that I suffer from a condition—I can’t be emotionally stimulated. Once triggered, I lose control and may become violent.
This evening, Comrade Xiang Zhiming and Comrade Huang Wei came to taunt me on purpose.
They mocked my disfigurement and called me a freak. I lost control of my emotions and lashed out…”
Xiang Zhiming’s eyes widened and he cut her off immediately. “Nonsense! When did we ever call you a freak?! Song Kexing, stop slandering us!”
“Comrade Officer, you see? He’s even threatening me now.” Song Kexing added calmly, “Oh, and Xiang Zhiming also said he’s now with Huang Wei, and told me to stop clinging to him.
But I never even liked him. I was just upset that he ruined my reputation. I acted rashly out of frustration—it really wasn’t intentional!”
“Song Kexing! How can you say that?! You clearly have feelings for me, you’re just too afraid to admit it!”
Xiang Zhiming was shaking with rage, practically trembling, ready to slap her.
“Pfft. Me, like you? Xiang Zhiming, what’s in your brain—garbage?”
Song Kexing scoffed. “Do yourself a favor and look in the mirror. That pig-like face of yours makes me sick. Don’t flatter yourself.”
Xiang Zhiming gritted his teeth. “You!…”
“Alright, enough! Let’s all take a breath,” the officer quickly stepped in to mediate.
“I’ve read Comrade Song’s medical certificate. If what she said is true, her assault might be understandable under the circumstances.”
Huang Wei immediately protested. “Comrade Officer, please don’t listen to only her side of the story!”
She had stayed quiet earlier, hoping Xiang Zhiming would take the lead.
But she hadn’t expected him to be so useless.
Not only did Song Kexing turn the tables, he was even flustered to the point of almost passing out.
For the first time, a flicker of dissatisfaction bloomed in Huang Wei’s heart.
Hmph. Can’t even handle one woman. Absolutely useless.
“Comrade Officer,” she said, “everything Song Kexing said is fake! She can’t even prove it!”
“You want proof? Easy.”
Ignoring her, Song Kexing turned to Xiang Zhiming and locked eyes with him.
“Let me ask you—what do you think of my appearance now?”
Seeing the scars and the gaping wound on her face, Xiang Zhiming’s eyes filled with disgust and disdain.
“Ugly.”
One word said it all.
Song Kexing didn’t flinch. Instead, she pressed on.
“Are you and Huang Wei dating? Don’t deny it—I saw you two hugging when I came in.”
Her tone carried a trace of bitter sarcasm.
Xiang Zhiming, thinking she still had feelings for him, deliberately said, “Yeah, so what? You’re not even worth one strand of Weiwei’s hair!”
But as soon as the words left his mouth, he realized—he’d fallen right into her trap.
Panic-stricken, he turned to the officer. “Comrade Officer… I…”
“That’s enough!” the officer said sternly. “I believe I’ve got a clear picture of what happened.”
Beside him, Huang Wei’s expression turned foul.
How had she never realized Xiang Zhiming was this dumb? What a moron!
“Comrade Officer,” she said, trying to regain control, “regardless, both Xiang Zhiming and I were victims. Song Kexing must take responsibility!”
Song Kexing sighed, “I’d love to, but I was having an episode at the time. I wasn’t in control. You can’t blame me for that.”
The officer nodded thoughtfully. “That’s fair. Comrade Song was indeed wrongly accused.”
Huang Wei & Xiang Zhiming: …
Wait—Comrade Officer, are you brainwashed by Song Kexing or what?!
In the end, the matter was dropped.
There was nothing they could do. The diagnosis clearly stated that Song Kexing, as a psychiatric patient, wasn’t legally responsible during an episode.
The bitter pill—Xiang Zhiming and Huang Wei had no choice but to swallow it themselves.
When Xiang Zhiming’s mother heard about what happened, she was so furious that she stormed over to the Song family that very night.
Song Kexing dismissed her with one sentence:
“You’ve got the wrong person. You should be going after Huang Wei. If she hadn’t egged your son on, none of this would’ve happened.”
Madam Xiang, who came from a prestigious family, was notoriously snobbish.
The moment she found out her precious son was dating a girl from a poor district, she exploded with rage and demanded he break up with Huang Wei.
Huang Wei put on a pitiful act, crying like a fragile white lotus, which only made Xiang Zhiming feel even more protective.
Hot-blooded and rebellious, he defied his parents for “love,” tearing the family apart.
Madam Xiang couldn’t bear to punish her son directly, so she turned her wrath toward the Huang family instead.
In the end, chaos erupted between the Xiang and Huang households—chickens flying, dogs jumping, a total mess.
