Chapter 37: Something happened

When Shen Hongxing returned home, Xu Shuangshuang and Chen Jiayi were already back.

Seeing Shen Hongxing covered in blood, they panicked, stopping her, “Boss, what happened? Why are you covered in so much blood?”

“Hongxia!”

Shen Hongxing’s suppressed tears finally flowed down her cheeks.

She covered her face and cried, “It’s all my fault. I didn’t protect Hongxia, and she was hurt. It’s all my fault. I knew something would happen to her this year, but I didn’t protect her!”

“What? What happened to Hongxia?” Xu Shuangshuang and Chen Jiayi were shocked.

“Hongxia is in the emergency room. Shuangshuang, the money! Our money! Quickly get it. She needs us to save her!”

“Okay, don’t worry. Here’s the money. Let’s go to the hospital!”

The three of them went to the hospital in a daze.

Cao Hongxia was still in emergency surgery.

Shen Hongxing deposited all the money into Cao Hongxia’s account and went to the emergency room.

Xu Shuangshuang grabbed her collar, “What happened? She went out with you this morning. How did this happen?”

Shen Hongxing shook her head painfully, “I don’t know. She said she wanted meat buns. While I was buying them, she disappeared. When I found her, she was like this!”

“Was it you? Are you still resentful and taking revenge on us?” Xu Shuangshuang glared at Shen Hongxing with red eyes.

Xu Shuangshuang suddenly understood.

She released Shen Hongxing, apologizing, “Boss, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to. Don’t take it to heart, okay?”

Several police officers approached with a man and a woman.

“It’s her!”

The man and woman pointed at Shen Hongxing, shouting, “She killed that man!”

“What?” Xu Shuangshuang and Chen Jiayi quickly stood in front of Shen Hongxing, arguing, “Impossible! Our boss would never kill anyone. You must be mistaken!”

“Miss Shen, we received a tip that you killed a mentally disabled man in the abandoned public restroom in the south of the city. Please come with us.” The leading officer showed his handcuffs.

“No! Our boss is innocent. You can’t take her away!”

Xu Shuangshuang tried to stop… in front of Shen Hongxing.

Shen Hongxing shook her head, “Shuangshuang, don’t worry. The law won’t wrong a good person or let a bad person go. I didn’t kill anyone. I’ll prove my innocence!”

She instructed Xu Shuangshuang and Chen Jiayi, “No matter what, protect Hongxia. If she wakes up, don’t tell her about me, okay?”

“Boss…”

Shen Hongxing was taken away.

Xu Shuangshuang collapsed on the ground, distraught. She cried, “Jiayi, what do we do? Hongxia is in critical condition, and the boss is accused of murder. How do we save them?”

Chen Jiayi thought of Lu Jiaoyang, “Sister Shuang, shall we find Chief Lu? If he knows the boss is in trouble, he’ll definitely help!”

Xu Shuangshuang shook her head, “Chief Lu has left Chaoyang!”

“Then let’s find Lu Ping’an. He was engaged to the boss. He shouldn’t stand idly by.”

Xu Shuangshuang sneered, “Finding him is less useful than finding his grandfather…”

“Yes, Old Chief Lu!”

Xu Shuangshuang seemed to see hope and stood up, telling Chen Jiayi, “Jiayi, go find Old Chief Lu. The boss said Old Chief Lu cares about her. He’ll definitely help if he knows!”

“Okay, I’ll go to the Lu family.” Chen Jiayi glanced at Cao Hongxia, who was still in surgery.

Xu Shuangshuang smiled, “Don’t worry, I’ll watch over Hongxia!”

A guard stopped Chen Jiayi.

“Officer, is Old Chief Lu home? I have something urgent. Can you let me in?”

“No. This is the compound. No one can enter without the Chief’s permission!”

Chen Jiayi cried, “Officer, please help me tell Old Chief Lu that Shen Hongxing is in trouble!”

The guard heard Shen Hongxing’s name and asked, “Shen Hongxing? The daughter of the wool mill director?”

“Yes! Officer, please let me see Old Chief Lu. I have something important. Please…” Chen Jiayi cried louder.

The guard said, “Old Chief Lu went out at 5 am and hasn’t returned!”

“What? He’s gone out?”

Chen Jiayi sniffed.

The guard added, “But Commander Gu is home. He and Chief Lu Jiaoyang are childhood friends. If you need to, I can connect you with Commander Gu’s house!”

Lu Jiaoyang’s good friend?

He would definitely help their boss.

Chen Jiayi quickly wiped away her tears and nodded, “Yes, of course!”

Soon, a tall man and a guard came out of the compound.

Gu Qingshan approached Chen Jiayi, “What happened to Shen Hongxing?”

Chen Jiayi told Gu Qingshan everything she knew.

Gu Qingshan went to the police station to understand the situation and then took Chen Jiayi to the hospital.

Cao Hongxia was still in surgery.

“How is she?”

Xu Shuangshuang’s eyes were swollen, “The doctor hasn’t come out yet!”

She asked Chen Jiayi, “Jiayi, how’s the boss?”

Although she didn’t know who the man was, she knew he was important.

Gu Qingshan replied, “I’ve reviewed all the evidence and witness testimonies.  The evidence points to your boss! That man is dead. We can only hope for Cao Hongxia.”

“Only if she wakes up will we know what happened and how to help Shen Hongxing!”

“It’s all my fault. If I hadn’t insisted on burning joss paper, Hongxia wouldn’t have gone out with the boss. Hongxia wouldn’t have been attacked, and the boss wouldn’t be accused of murder!” Xu Shuangshuang slapped herself in self-reproach.

Xu Shuangshuang and Chen Jiayi hugged each other and cried.

Gu Qingshan frowned, “You believe Shen Hongxing so much?”

“Of course!”

They said in unison, “We absolutely don’t believe the boss would kill anyone!”

The light in the operating room went off.

“Quickly, Jiayi!” Xu Shuangshuang pulled Chen Jiayi to the door.

The doctor came out.

They grabbed the doctor, anxiously asking, “Doctor, how is she? How is Hongxia?”

The doctor took off his mask, his forehead covered in sweat.

His face was grim, “The patient lost too much blood. Whether she wakes up depends on her luck. If she doesn’t wake up within 48 hours, she may never wake up again!”

Xu Shuangshuang and Chen Jiayi stumbled back.

They sat on the ground, covering their faces and crying, “We’ve just started, and the boss planned our future the day before yesterday. She said she would send us to school, and Hongxia said…she wanted to be a big star!”

“How could this happen in just a few hours? Hongxia is like this, and the boss is arrested?”

“Why? We’ve only had a few good days. Why? What did we do wrong?”

“Enough! Stop crying!” Gu Qingshan angrily stopped them, “Cao Hongxia needs your care. Your task is to stay by her side 24/7, understand?”

They stopped crying.

Xu Shuangshuang wiped her tears, “Yes, I promised the boss I would take care of Hongxia. I won’t let her down!”

Gu Qingshan went to the doctor’s office.

The doctor gave him Cao Hongxia’s injury report, “Commander Gu, based on my experience, the patient’s wounds suggest self-inflicted injuries!”

Gu Qingshan immediately understood, “You mean, she committed suicide?”
