Nan Qiao also nodded with a smile, “Wan Gu is right. If we join forces, we can resolve this quickly.”
“Then I’ll leave this matter to the two of you,” Wang Jinhe trusted them completely. If they said it was doable, then it surely was.
“Alright.” The unconditional trust made both Wan Gu and Nan Qiao very pleased.
While they were discussing how to detoxify Gu Yanqi, Gu Sheng had already called Gu Xiruo over to his side.
Gu Xiruo felt uneasy as she looked at Gu Sheng across from her.
It used to be that Gu Sheng cherished her the most, but now their relationship had deteriorated. This feeling was unpleasant; she didn’t like it.
“Dad, I know I was wrong. Can you forgive me?” Gu Xiruo pleaded with a pitiful look at Gu Sheng.
“Everyone bullies me. Dad, you must ensure justice for me.”
Gu Sheng calmly observed Gu Xiruo. Hearing her words, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of irony.
In reality, is ensuring justice the truth, while apologies and acknowledging wrongdoings are merely false?
However, none of this concerned him. Right now, he only wanted to confirm one thing.
“Did you poison Yanqi?” Gu Sheng asked sternly, looking at Gu Xiruo after she finished speaking.
Gu Xiruo’s expression changed slightly, then she regained her composure. “Dad, why are you asking this?”
“Answer my question. And I’m not your dad; I don’t have a daughter like you.”
“Dad, you used to be the best to me. How can you say such things?” Gu Xiruo still hoped to reconcile with Gu Sheng using this opportunity. If he responded this way, how could she proceed?
“I’ll ask you again, did you poison Yanqi?” Gu Sheng’s gaze was sharp, filled with coldness as he looked at Gu Xiruo.
Gu Xiruo’s face paled a bit. Feeling pressured by Gu Sheng’s intense interrogation, she became agitated and responded, “So what if I did?”
“Who asked him to be so ungrateful? I asked him to willingly hand over the position of head of the family to me. He refused. Who is to blame?”
If Gu Yanqi had agreed to her request and voluntarily stepped back from the contest for head of the family, she wouldn’t have resorted to poisoning him.
Gu Sheng stared blankly at Gu Xiruo. Even though he had suspected it, hearing Gu Xiruo say it out loud still left a bitter taste in his mouth.
“Gu Xiruo, he is your brother.”
“He is not my brother; we have no blood relation,” Gu Xiruo replied as she looked at Gu Sheng.
The words spoken were a fact but bordered on cruelty.
“Gu Xiruo, you ungrateful wretch.” He had been kind to Gu Xiruo when she was young, only to have her side with such a schemer?
After enduring as much as he could, Gu Sheng raised his hand and slapped Gu Xiruo across the face.
One slap didn’t seem to satisfy his anger; he followed it with another.
Even after the blows, Gu Sheng’s hand trembled.
Regardless of how disappointed he was in Gu Xiruo, she was still the child he had raised with affection since childhood.
But her actions this time had crossed a line, coupled with her harsh words.
Gu Xiruo, holding her face, turned to Gu Sheng, “You hit me?”
“For that useless Gu Yanqi, you dare to hit me?” Gu Xiruo couldn’t accept that Gu Sheng had struck her. Despite their strained relationship, how could he resort to violence against her?
“He is your brother. Gu Xiruo, you are terrifying. For the position of the Gu family head, you would harm your own brother. Your cruelty disgusts me,” Gu Sheng shook his head as he spoke.
She was no longer his daughter. He didn’t have a daughter like her.
“Disgusting? Haven’t you helped me do such things as well? Now you find it repulsive?” Gu Xiruo chuckled sarcastically.
Her laughter carried an eerie tone that made Gu Sheng deeply uncomfortable.
Looking at Gu Sheng, Gu Xiruo’s eyes reflected coldness.
“Gu Sheng, neither of us is clean. If you truly want to end up in jail, I can certainly make that happen. I just wonder if you can handle it,” Gu Xiruo said with a sinister smile.
“If you don’t want to end up in jail for the rest of your life, or even lose your life, you’d better obediently help me. Treat me well like before, or face the consequences.” Gu Xiruo looked arrogantly at Gu Sheng.
She was convinced that Gu Sheng would agree.
However, Gu Sheng remained unusually calm as he gazed at Gu Xiruo. “It doesn’t matter. If you want to report me, go ahead. You won’t escape the consequences. Do you think my death would ensure your survival?”
“Don’t talk about Qing Yukong helping you. Given your current relationship with him, do you really think he will support you?” Gu Sheng’s words dripped with sarcasm.
Did she still believe there were many people around her willing to help unconditionally, as they did in the past?
While her behavior hadn’t seemed problematic before, it now disgusted Gu Sheng immensely.
For a young woman to engage in such actions was truly shameful.
Furious, Gu Xiruo couldn’t believe that Gu Sheng had actually refused.
“I am now all alone. What do I have to fear? It’s you who haven’t obtained what you desire. Would you be willing to die so easily?” Gu Sheng’s words struck Gu Xiruo’s heart like a sharp knife, leaving a gaping wound.
“You are truly my father,” Gu Xiruo gritted her teeth.
Even though there was still some distance between them, Gu Sheng could hear the seething hatred in her voice.
Quite intriguing.
“Is that what angers you?” Gu Sheng calmly asked Gu Xiruo.
“Bring out the antidote, and I will let bygones be bygones,” he demanded.
Gu Xiruo laughed heartily, “There is no antidote. Why would I provide it when I have everything calculated? Would I bring Gu Yanqi back to life just for him to oppose me again?”
She wouldn’t give Gu Yanqi that chance.
This time, Gu Yanqi could only await his fate.
As Gu Sheng was about to speak anxiously, one of the guards beside him interjected, “Head of the family, there’s no need to worry. The people brought by the princess are already detoxifying the Young Master. With the Princess and her attendants present, Young Master will surely be fine.”
Upon hearing this, Gu Sheng felt much more at ease. The princess had numerous skilled physicians by her side, ensuring that Yanqi would be fine with their presence.
Gu Xiruo, however, remained disdainful of his reassurance. The poison she had used was exceptionally vicious, causing excruciating pain even while unconscious.
This was her punishment for Gu Yanqi. Those who opposed her would face such consequences.
“You are too quick to reassure yourselves. Today, no one can save him,” Gu Xiruo coldly remarked.
“Get out,” Gu Sheng pointed to the door, reprimanding them.
“Watch as she leaves the Gu family with her belongings. From now on, the Gu family has no ties with her,” Gu Sheng suddenly declared.
Was this the complete severance of ties with Gu Xiruo?
Gu Xiruo’s expression soured slightly as she listened to Gu Sheng’s words.
“You…”
“Even if I am not the Head of the Gu Family anymore, I am still the head of my household now. Is there anything wrong with expelling my foster daughter who has made mistakes from the family?” Gu Sheng spoke to Gu Xiruo with a smile that didn’t reach his eyes.
“Then take a good look at this. Do you recognize this item?” Gu Xiruo suddenly presented a beautiful glass pendant.
