For some reason, Chen Siyan had been feeling an incessant twitching in his eyelids for the past two days, as though something bad was about to happen.
Could it be that bad news would come from An Huan’s side?
Thinking of An Huan made his heart feel heavy.
He had originally thought that An Huan’s divorce was a done deal. He had even written the wedding invitation, but who could have known that she suddenly ran off to join the military!
Even now, he was still dumbfounded.
Women were really hard to understand.
His ex-wife had asked for a divorce just because he hugged a junior in the orchestra, and now An Huan was even more outrageous, not even giving him a reason and ignoring him entirely!
He could only hope that his heartfelt letter would move An Huan. If she came back to him, he would still be willing to marry her. After all, he couldn’t find anyone better than her.
Feeling down, Chen Siyan went to the orchestra, but as soon as he arrived, he was notified to go to Secretary Yang’s office.
… The feeling of unease grew even stronger.
As it turned out, his intuition was right.
As soon as Chen Siyan entered the office, he heard Secretary Yang’s furious voice: “Chen Siyan, you have a lot of nerve, daring to ruin a military marriage!”
Chen Siyan was immediately struck dumb with fear. When he looked around the office, apart from Secretary Yang from the orchestra, there was also Director Zhao from the Ministry of Culture, and a person in military uniform.
After a long pause, Chen Siyan regained his wits, his face pale as he stammered, “S-Secretary, where did that come from? I didn’t do anything!”
Secretary Yang threw a letter onto Chen Siyan’s desk.
“You still say you didn’t do it? Is this letter yours?!”
Chen Siyan glanced at it and instantly recognized that it was the love letter he had spent an entire night writing.
An Huan had sent it by express mail, and due to favorable weather conditions, it had reached the provincial capital in just two days.
Director Zhao spoke slowly, “Chen Siyan, stop lying. Besides your letter as evidence, Comrade An Huan also personally reported you.”
Chen Siyan couldn’t believe it.
Secretary Yang glared at him. “I wondered why Comrade An Huan suddenly resigned, turns out you’ve been harassing her!” He softened his tone and turned to the man in military uniform. “Comrade Zhu, I’m not sure how Deputy Division Commander Xiao wants to handle this matter?”
The man in military uniform was Xiao Zhu, the guard of Deputy Division Commander Xiao.
Xiao Zhu, who usually wore a cheerful smile, was now expressionless. “Our commander hopes the process can be kept low-profile, but the punishment for a bad person cannot be light.”
Secretary Yang sneered.
After all, An Huan was a female comrade, and any involvement in a scandal, even if she were the victim, was bad.
After a long silence, Secretary Yang finally spoke, “Chen Siyan has a conduct problem. We’ve decided to remove him from his position as the orchestra leader.”
“Secretary Yang!” Chen Siyan panicked, “This isn’t all my fault! It was An Huan who seduced me first! Yes, she seduced me, and I even got divorced for her! Now, she regrets it and is biting back at me. How is that fair?”
Xiao Zhu barked, “Slandering a military family undermines the unity between the military and civilians. Your thoughts are problematic!”
Director Zhao added, “Your letter also contains insulting and defamatory remarks about the military. Secretary Yang, what’s the point of keeping someone like Chen Siyan in the orchestra? He should be sent for reform immediately!”
Secretary Yang looked at Chen Siyan with disgust. It would have been enough to dismiss him from his position due to his conduct, but he had to try to drag An Huan down with him. Now the issue had escalated to an ideological one, and his future was essentially ruined.
Chen Siyan felt the blood in his veins freeze under Secretary Yang’s cold gaze.
Why was An Huan being so ruthless towards him?
Could it be that his feelings for her were mistaken? Did she really not like him?
Now, he would never see An Huan again in his life, and so he would never have the answer.
After completing his assignment, Xiao Zhu hurried back to report.
Xiao Zhu entered Deputy Division Commander Xiao’s office, looking somewhat surprised. “She reported him? That Chen guy?”
Xiao Zhu nodded. “Yes, the report should have reached the provincial capital before me. I didn’t do much, and Chen Siyan’s guilt was already sealed.”
Deputy Division Commander Xiao was shaken.
Then, all the clouds that had been hovering over him for the past few days suddenly cleared away.
He laughed heartily, slapping Xiao Zhu on the shoulder. “Good job. You completed your task well. I’m giving you half a day off to rest.”
Xiao Zhu grinned, rubbing his shoulder where Xiao Zhu had slapped him. The leader’s iron palm was something not just anyone could endure.
It wasn’t easy!
After work, Deputy Division Commander Xiao returned home, his steps light and carefree.
Ling Hansong raised an eyebrow. “What’s the happy occasion?”
Xiao Zheng shot him a sideways glance. “Married man’s joy. You wouldn’t understand if I told you.”
Ling Hansong frowned. “…”
Xiao Zheng then added, “Has Ge Hongxia been coming to see you lately?”
“I’ve tried talking to her, but she didn’t listen, so I turned to Comrade Yu for help. She hasn’t come by in the past couple of days, so I think Comrade Yu must have persuaded her.” Ling Hansong sighed in relief, looking utterly relieved.
Xiao Zheng nodded. “That’s good. By the way, your sister-in-law has a colleague named Yang Tianjiao. She’s a graduate of a secondary vocational school, about twenty years old. If you’re interested, you could meet her. There’s a movie at the small auditorium the day after tomorrow. You can invite her there and introduce yourselves.”
Ling Hansong grabbed Xiao Zheng’s hand excitedly. “Really?”
Xiao Zheng pushed him away in disgust. “Look at you! Just make sure you don’t drool and scare her off.”
Ling Hansong laughed and cursed, “Go to hell.”
Xiao Zheng was eager to get home and didn’t want to talk more, waving goodbye as he left.
Another officer happened to pass by and shook his head. “Deputy Division Commander Xiao is truly becoming the model husband now, going home right after work without delay.”
Ling Hansong smiled faintly. “Indeed. Marrying someone you like is really the best thing…”
Xiao Zheng really felt incredibly happy at that moment.
He thought An Huan had kept the letter from that Chen guy in order to stir up thoughts of leaving him.
But no, she had reported him instead.
It was such a surprise, a pleasant surprise, and damn it, it was exhilarating!
Xiao Zheng strode home, glancing through the window at An Huan in the kitchen. His heart instantly softened.
He quietly sneaked into the kitchen and hugged her from behind while she was chopping vegetables.
“Ah!” An Huan screamed in surprise, lifting the knife in her hand.
Xiao Zheng quickly grabbed her wrist, laughing. “Trying to murder your husband?”
An Huan glared at him. “If you scare me again, I’ll…”
Xiao Zheng smirked playfully, “What will you do?”
An Huan, “… I won’t talk to you!”
Xiao Zheng touched his nose, realizing she had actually threatened him.
He wasn’t afraid of anything—except her not talking to him.
He quickly changed the subject. “Where’s our son? I haven’t seen him since I came back.”
An Huan replied, “He’s playing next door. He should be back soon. You go get him for dinner.”
Xiao Zheng obediently replied, “Okay,” and went out.
After a while, as An Huan was about to fall asleep with their son, she woke up and asked groggily, “Did you carry him to bed? He didn’t wake up, right?”
An Huan was wearing a cotton nightgown, with a U-neck that revealed a lot of smooth white skin and delicate collarbones.
Her short hair was a little messy, casually covering half her face. Her red lips were slightly parted, her eyes half-closed, looking lazy and captivating.
Xiao Zheng’s throat tightened, and without warning, he lunged at her, like a predator hunting its prey, exuding an almost aggressive aura.
His massive frame made the attack intense, and An Huan was startled, her sleepiness instantly vanishing.
Before she could even hit him, he kissed her.
“Family planning supplies should be put to use now.”
