The firefighters on the rooftop caught the rope.
Although four people were pulling together, the inertia of the two falling was still considerable. Lu Lin abruptly grabbed Wang Yiming and halted in mid-air. Gritting his teeth, he kicked against the wall and descended, while Wang Yiming dared not move, afraid of causing trouble for the firefighter.
Until they landed on the air cushion, Lu Lin released Wang Yiming’s hand. Shi Sheng ran over and fell onto the cushion, then quickly got up to check if he was okay.
“There’s a slight bruise on your hand,” Lu Lin moved a bit and was about to say it’s nothing serious when he looked down and saw Shi Sheng’s face pale. Lu Lin was suddenly hugged tightly by him, noticing that Shi Sheng’s body was still trembling slightly.
Lu Lin froze, not knowing where to put his hands, and awkwardly patted his back.
“It’s not dislocated, so it’s not a big deal.”
“…I was just afraid you’d fall to your death, and here you are talking about whether it’s dislocated or not.”
“No,” Lu Lin comforted him softly, “My colleagues are still up there. Besides—they’re all taking photos with their phones. Are you sure you want to keep hugging me?”
Shi Sheng suddenly let go, facing the surprised gazes around him, even Wang Yiming was surprised. He quickly turned his back, afraid that Lu Lin would be pointed and talked about by those people. Wang Yiming’s parents had chased after them, twisting his arm and starting to scold him.
“Shameless thing, do you want to embarrass me? You make me so angry! How dare you jump from such a height? What were you thinking? Is that guy more important than your own life?”
“It’s all because of you,” Wang Yiming gritted his teeth and stepped back, “If it weren’t for you going to his parents, insulting him, causing trouble at his workplace, he wouldn’t have quarreled with his family and lost his job…”
“I’m going to jump, I’m going to use death to retaliate against you. It’s all your fault!”
He tried to run outside, but was quickly stopped by the police. The surrounding area was chaotic, so Shi Sheng took the opportunity to pull Lu Lin away. The police and firefighters began to disperse the crowd.
Suddenly, Wang Yiming stopped moving and stared intently at a spot. A boy with a delicate face hurried over, and Wang Yiming’s parents became even more furious. They began to loudly scold him again.
“It’s all because of you, you caused our son to end up like this!”
The boy grabbed Wang Yiming’s hand and asked if he was okay. But his parents pushed him away, and the police officers were busy trying to calm everyone down. Shi Sheng watched from a distance, shaking his head.
“What’s wrong?”
Shi Sheng sighed, “That guy named Wang Yiming is too immature. Although his parents did go too far, his idea of revenge will only make the guy who likes him more miserable and guilty. He didn’t even think about what would happen to that guy if he really jumped off the building.”
“Yeah, that’s true,” Lu Lin nodded. “You only have the right to choose when you’re financially independent and have a job. Without the ability to bear the consequences of coming out, everything is just talk.”
The crowd gradually dispersed, and Shi Sheng walked towards the car.
“We don’t need to worry about these issues,” Lu Lin raised an eyebrow. He trusted that his own parents were open-minded enough, and since Shi Sheng’s family only consisted of him, it was even easier to handle.
“Let’s go back.”
Lu Lin took off his orange rescue suit outside and got into Shi Sheng’s car.
Watching the whole farce, Shi Sheng felt deeply moved. But in many places, at many times, this is the situation for same-sex relationships. Once it’s public, they’re either ridiculed or considered mentally ill.
Now he was someone with his own issues to deal with.
“…Yeah, I’ll take Shi Sheng’s car back to the center later. You don’t have to wait for me.” In the passenger seat, Lu Lin hung up the phone with his colleague, then looked at Shi Sheng’s face. It was much rosier now, so he should be fine.
He suddenly realized that all his recent worries had become meaningless. Whether Shi Sheng remembered or not, and whatever was important to him, when you like someone, your worries, your nervousness, are all clearly displayed. What else should he worry about?
“Shall we go back now?” Shi Sheng fastened his seatbelt, interrupting his thoughts.
“Yeah,” Lu Lin noticed the bag of cherries, “Why did you buy so many dried cherries?”
Shi Sheng chuckled and decided to show off his newly learned skill to Lu Lin, “Have you heard of tying cherry stems in knots with your tongue?”
“What?”
Shi Sheng plucked a cherry stem, put it in his mouth, gently bit on it with his teeth, while stirring it with his tongue, crossing the ends of the cherry stem. Lu Lin’s gaze gradually deepened as Shi Sheng held one end of the stem with his hand and pulled it out to show him.
“You see, a Bilibili uploader said you can practice kissing techniques by tying cherry stems in knots.”
The small cherry stem was still wet, and Shi Sheng proudly showed it to him. His face, which had been pale from fright earlier, was now rosy, and his deer-like eyes looked at him, smiling.
Lu Lin was silent for a moment, then said, “I have a better way to help you practice.”
“Oh?”
Lu Lin hooked his finger, inviting him to come closer. Shi Sheng, not understanding what was going on, leaned in, and Lu Lin suddenly undid his seatbelt, grabbed the back of Shi Sheng’s neck, and kissed him on the lips.
“Mmm…”
Breath caught and Shi Sheng froze for a moment as Lu Lin leaned over, almost pressing him against the driver’s seat. Lips touched, teeth nibbled, and between them it was all wet and soft, until the kiss turned ambiguous, and Shi Sheng was pulled into Lu Lin’s embrace.
He tilted his head back to respond, but couldn’t catch up, his Adam’s apple bobbing as he swallowed saliva. He had long forgotten the online tutorials, struggling to adjust his breathing.
After a while, Lu Lin released him, and Shi Sheng breathed heavily, releasing his clenched fingertips. The corners of his eyes were slightly red.
Lu Lin reached out again, wiping away the moisture from his lips, feeling somewhat pleased.
Shi Sheng, still in a daze, living in a dream, hadn’t yet reacted to Lu Lin suddenly kissing him.
So, the online tutorials were indeed useful? Did Lu Lin need to be tempted to take that step?
He was dumbfounded for a moment, then he realized that Lu Lin might have decided not to care whether he remembered everything because of the earlier incident of falling from the building.
So Shi Sheng made up his mind to redouble his efforts and tempt Lu Lin even more.
Seeing his various expressions, Lu Lin didn’t know what this guy was thinking again, so he kissed him fiercely again.
The end result was that when they returned to the base, Shi Sheng’s lips were swollen.
