“The external injuries and gas embolism from the shock wave have been treated. Due to pulmonary bleeding resulting in respiratory failure, fortunately, he arrived in time. The fractured ribs didn’t puncture the heart or lungs, but he might experience some headaches and dizziness, which are normal after-effects of a concussion.”
“Are the family members here? Please sign here.”
Outside the operating room, Shi Sheng watched Lu Yin signing, biting his lips tightly.
After the surgery, Lu Lin was pushed into the ward. The colleagues originally wanted to contact Shi Sheng and Lu Lin’s family, but who would have thought that these two would arrive at the hospital earlier than Lu Lin himself? Now, the people responsible for taking care of them in the hospital were all present.
“Okay, one, two, three—”
Everyone worked together to push the two beds in the ward together.
Su Qi waved her hand, asking Shi Sheng to lie down. “You still have a fever, don’t overexert yourself.”
“It’s lucky it was a secondary explosion,” said a colleague who brought them, shaking his head. “If it had been as powerful as the first one, Lu Lin might not have been this close.”
“Hey, don’t talk nonsense.”
Shi Sheng lay on the hospital bed, silently watching Lu Lin lying beside him. He propped himself up on his elbow and reached out to touch Lu Lin’s face, unable to understand how the person who was so vigorous last night had become like this today.
Colleagues gradually left, and after taking his medicine, Shi Sheng hugged Lu Lin’s hand and burrowed into his embrace, pressing his feverish cheek against Lu Lin’s arm, seeking some sense of security.
“Wake up quickly,” he whispered and gently bit Lu Lin’s ear.
Shi Sheng soon fell into a deep sleep again.
In the middle of the night, Lu Lin woke up and moved his body. After looking at the instruments beside him, he quickly understood where he was.
As he tried to move his arm, he realized it was numb.
Oh no, was his hand blown off? Lu Lin was stunned, his first thought being that he would have to rely on Shi Sheng for everything in the future.
His heart pounded as he turned his head and slowly lowered his gaze. It was somewhat unbearable to look at this scene, but under the moonlight, the curtains swayed gently in the wind. He lowered his head and saw Shi Sheng peacefully sleeping on his arm, his slightly curly hair scattered.
It was the culprit that had pressed down on his hand.
Lu Lin subconsciously let out a sigh of relief, reached out to rub his hair, and gently touched Shi Sheng’s forehead with his palm.
“Mmm…” Shi Sheng subconsciously shrunk back, rubbing against his palm, his breathing still somewhat heavy.
“Sheng?”
Lu Lin realized something was wrong, so he unplugged the oxygen tube from Shi Sheng’s nose and reached out to turn on the light. With Shi Sheng’s face flushed, his long eyelashes fluttered restlessly under the light.
Furrowing his brows, Lu Lin rubbed Shi Sheng’s face with his fingertips. “Wake up, you have a fever.”
“… I know,” Shi Sheng answered groggily, “I’ve had a fever all day.”
Lu Lin was momentarily stunned. Seeing the combined beds and the needle marks on Shi Sheng’s hand, he suddenly understood. Before he could blame himself, Lu Yin, who was sleeping on the small bed, woke up from the light and looked up, “Ge, you’re awake!”
She was afraid of worrying the family, so she deliberately kept the situation from them, thinking that Lu Lin would only wake up tomorrow. Shi Sheng, who was half asleep and half awake, frowned upon hearing the voice and pulled the blanket over his head to avoid the light.
He suddenly realized that something was wrong, and then abruptly pulled his head out again, trying hard to open his eyes to look at Lu Lin.
“Are you awake, baby?”
“Awake, awake.” Lu Lin saw that Shi Sheng was struggling to open his eyes and then tried to open them wide. Lu Lin, feeling helpless, gently poked his nose. “Go back to sleep, we’ll talk tomorrow.”
Lu Lin turned off the light, covered his chest, and lay down again. Suddenly, he remembered something and waved to Lu Yin. “Yin, you should sleep early too.”
Lu Yin pursed her lips, then lay down with a snap.
The ward quieted down again. In the darkness, Shi Sheng, who had just woken up, looked at Lu Lin in confusion for a while. He pinched himself for confirmation—it wasn’t a dream.
“Do you want some water?” Shi Sheng suddenly asked in a low voice.
“No need.”
“Does the wound hurt a lot? Is there any discomfort?”
Lu Lin helplessly opened his eyes to look at him. “Take care of yourself. Why are you running a fever? Did I not clean it properly?”
“It seems so.”
Lu Lin, seeing that Shi Sheng was also not sleepy anymore, reached out and gently rubbed his cheek. His gaze in the darkness held a hint of reluctance.
To be honest, at the moment of the explosion, Lu Lin almost thought it was over for him. In his daze, he thought of Shi Sheng and wondered if the guy would be upset. So he held his breath and told himself he must wake up, wake up soon.
Luckily, he had the protagonist’s halo.
“When they brought you to the hospital, I had just finished my IV drip,” Shi Sheng curled up and said softly, “air embolism, pulmonary bleeding, and broken ribs.”
“I’m fine now, aren’t I?” Lu Lin touched his head, feeling somewhat guilty. “Blame me for not being by your side when you were sick.”
“It’s okay, I forgive you.”
Shi Sheng reached out again, kissed Lu Lin softly, and was then pressed down by Lu Lin. The sound of gentle kisses filled the room. Lu Yin, on the other side of the small bed, turned over, covered her ears, and silently repeated three times: “I didn’t hear anything.” In the hospital room, an ambiguous atmosphere quietly flowed.
Lu Lin quietly parted Shi Sheng’s lips, their breaths intertwining.
After a long time, he gently lay back on the pillow, regulating his breathing rhythm. His chest still ached intermittently, but it was nothing with Shi Sheng here.
A soft voice sounded in Lu Lin’s ear. “Next time you go on a mission, be careful.”
In bed, the two turned to face each other and whispered to each other. Shi Sheng leaned into Lu Lin’s embrace, feeling the warmth of his breath on his neck.
Later, overwhelmed by drowsiness, Shi Sheng was half-awake. The chirping of birds outside the window could be heard, and he guessed it was around four or five in the morning. His body was warm, as if Lu Lin’s hand had reached in to check his temperature. The cool touch of Lu Lin’s cheek against his forehead made Shi Sheng feel much more comfortable, and then came the gentle kisses.
He fell asleep so deeply that his bones felt soft, emitting warmth all over his body. He was wrapped in Lu Lin’s arms, listening to his whispers. He couldn’t hear them clearly and just responded with a low hum.
“Are you uncomfortable?”
“Um…”
Lu Lin kissed him again, and Shi Sheng responded drowsily, as if medicine had been administered. After wiping his body with a damp towel, a sturdy arm wrapped around him.
Lu Lin whispered to him softly, “I’m here, go to sleep.”
He curled up and nestled into Lu Lin’s embrace.
Being taken care of while having a fever felt completely different from being violently dragged downstairs by Su Qi. Shi Sheng was too tired to stay awake, but a warm feeling filled his heart.
