“Their cowardice has nothing to do with me.”
Wang Jinhe didn’t dwell on the topic with Su Yu but continued discussing Gu Yanqi, saying, “Since Mother has started assessing Gu Yanqi, it means she approves of him as the young master. Gu Yanqi must not encounter any trouble.”
“With various shady characters in the Gu family now, and with Gu Sheng having ulterior motives, even if Gu sheng is no longer the Gu family head, his influence over the family head position remains significant.” Even without Gu Xiruo, the danger was not necessarily eliminated, as she had engaged in hiring killers.
“You make a valid point.”
“I’ll visit Gu Yanqi tomorrow; I haven’t seen him in days. As for the matter with Pangzi, I’ll speak to him after returning from the Gu family. I have something to discuss with him.” Wang Jinhe smiled at Su Yu as she spoke.
With Wang Jinhe’s decision, Su Yu could only nod in agreement with her actions.
The next day, Su Yu went to the palace, while Wang Jinhe headed to the Gu family.
Upon hearing about Wang Jinhe’s visit, Gu Sheng promptly took his men to Gu Yanqi’s courtyard.
Gu Yanqi’s confidant looked at Gu Sheng’s courteous demeanor with a hint of sarcasm.
He used to disdain the princess. Why the sudden change in attitude now? Did he really think the Princess had forgotten everything?
Seeing Gu Sheng approaching, Wang Jinhe instinctively frowned, feeling a dislike towards him.
“Do you need something?”
“You came here today…”
“I came to check on Gu Yanqi’s condition. If you have no business, please leave.” Wang Jinhe’s mood soured upon seeing Gu Sheng.
She couldn’t fathom why he shamelessly approached her.
“Xiao He, no matter what, we are still family, and you…”
“That’s enough.” Wang Jinhe detested people who interfered unnecessarily. She felt a surge of annoyance and the urge to strike out at them.
“Didn’t I make myself clear about our relationship last time? Or do you not understand human language? What makes you so shameless that, despite everything, you can still act as if nothing happened and speak to me like this?”
“Not only are you talking to me, but you’re also lecturing me. Do you believe you have the right to lecture me?” Wang Jinhe looked at Gu Sheng with disgust in her eyes.
She believed she had already expressed her thoughts clearly during their last encounter. Why was Gu Sheng still approaching her like this?
“I didn’t mean it that way. I just want to fulfill the responsibilities of a father. I…”
“I don’t need your so-called fatherly love. I didn’t need it before, and I certainly don’t need it now. I’m no longer a child at the age of three.”
Fulfilling fatherly responsibilities?
This man sure has the nerve.
“Do you have to be like this? I’ve realized my mistakes now and wish to mend our relationship. Are you only happy when our relationship is in shambles?” Gu Sheng felt greatly embarrassed by his daughter repeatedly, which left him very displeased as he looked at Wang Jinhe with a furrowed brow.
Upon hearing this, Wang Jinhe smiled, but the smile seemed tinged with sarcasm.
“Just because you acknowledge your mistakes, am I supposed to forgive you? Where does such a good outcome exist in this world?”
“If you claim to fulfill your fatherly duties, then let me ask you this: When Gu Xiruo wanted me dead, did you remember you were my father?”
“When you went to our Royal Mansion and declared you had no daughter like me, did you remember you were my father then?”
“When I severed ties with you, did you consider yourself my father at that moment?”
“Don’t forget the words you said back then. Why don’t you reflect on them?” Gu Sheng’s complexion turned pale with a hint of green, feeling somewhat embarrassed and thinking that Wang Jinhe was being too domineering.
“These matters happened a long time ago. Why do you keep holding onto them?” Gu Sheng questioned.
“Just because time has passed doesn’t mean those events didn’t occur. You may choose to forget, but I can’t; after all, I was the one hurt, not you.”
“If you had an ounce of dignity, you wouldn’t utter such words,” Wang Jinhe’s disdain was palpable.
She harbored no goodwill towards Gu Sheng, with her visible distaste apparent to anyone who could see. Yet, Gu Sheng seemed oblivious, acting as if blind to the obvious.
Unable to see and yet causing trouble, seeking out disdain from others.
“You…”
“I have already made myself clear. I hope you won’t continue appearing before me. I neither have nor need a father like you. I’ve already said it before. If you have the courage, go talk to my father first. If you don’t even dare to approach him, what qualifications do you have to seek connections here? You are unworthy.” With that, Wang Jinhe disregarded Gu Sheng’s potential anger and proceeded to Gu Yanqi’s side.
Nan Qiao, observing Gu Sheng’s unappealing appearance, expressed with some disdain, “You may not look good, but your thinking seems to be quite grand.”
“After discovering Gu Xiruo’s true nature, now you want to cause trouble for our sister-in-law? Do you think we are all fools?”
Gu Qing stood under the eaves, having observed the recent events clearly. Gu Sheng truly had a thick skin.
“Master, it’s better not to offend the princess. Our Gu family won’t be able to handle the consequences.”
“Remember your own words. You only have Gu Xiruo as a daughter. No one else is worthy, so don’t think you can use your status to take away Gu Xiruo’s identity,” Gu Qing mocked.
These were the exact words Gu Sheng had shared with the elders of their family. Would he now find them ironic? Would he feel like someone had slapped him hard across the face with those words?
“If you won’t support me, so be it. But to stand here and speak ill of us…” Did these people not realize how beneficial it would be for the Gu family to mend relations with Wang Jinhe?
This understanding didn’t need to be voiced by Gu Sheng; Gu Qing and the others were already aware. However, it was precisely because they knew that they couldn’t act accordingly.
Wang Jinhe already held unfavorable feelings towards the Gu family, and her willingness to assist the young master was solely due to his past acknowledgment of her.
But that’s all there is to it.
The princess isn’t someone who acts on their every word.
She is not a naive child.
And she is certainly not one to forget a grudge.
Even now, recalling the words Gu Sheng had spoken to Wang Jinhe, they found him despicable, especially Wang Jinhe herself.
“Now that Gu Xiruo has separated from Qing Yukong, it’s precisely when she needs you as a father. Yet, you all aren’t lending a hand?”
Gu Sheng was aware of Gu Xiruo’s separation from Qing Yukong. However, this was just knowledge; he hadn’t bothered with anything else.
Where Gu Xiruo was residing and what her future held—these thoughts never crossed Gu Sheng’s mind initially. Only later did he realize that he wasn’t as concerned about Gu Xiruo as he thought.
His true concern wasn’t for Wang Jinhe either. Wanting Wang Jinhe to return was merely a means to elevate his status within the Gu family.
However, Wang Jinhe wasn’t easily swayed and paid no heed to his words.
With a slight frown, Gu Sheng pondered how to make Wang Jinhe compliant, observing her in the room.
