Chapter 68
To be honest, when Sang Yao first heard about her marriage to Xie Yun, she didn’t feel the same sense of loss as when she was supposed to marry Lu Ting.
After a brief surprise, she began to worry.
She worried about serving her parents-in-law, about learning to manage the household, and also worried that the servants or other masters here might still dislike her for her low birth and make things difficult for her.
She had already planned how to complain to Xie Yun, but everything seemed to be going well.
After lunch, the maids came in to remove the dishes, and then they entered in a line, carrying several plates of small pastries.
Sang Yao wondered why they were serving dessert so quickly after lunch, but Xie Yun remained calm, waiting quietly for the pastries to be served.
The small pastries in front of her were all exquisitely made, emitting a light fragrance. Roughly counting, there were about 10 plates. Sang Yao was not very hungry after eating, but it didn’t stop her from noticing a not-so-prominent plate of glutinous rice milk cake among the pastries.
This was something she had eaten in the Princess’s residence before, and Yang Wenchuan had made it for her.
Sang Yao exclaimed in surprise, picking up a piece, “Your family’s pastry chef can make this too?”
With so many plates of pastries, she noticed this plate at a glance, which Xie Yun wasn’t very pleased with.
He said, “It’s nothing special.”
Sang Yao took a bite. The taste was exactly the same as the one she had at the Princess’s residence.
She nodded in pleasant surprise, “It tastes exactly the same as the one I had at the Princess’s residence last time!”
“The same person made it, how could it be different?”
Sang Yao was stunned for a moment, then her brain turned, looking at him unsurely and asking softly, “Is that chef in your house? Did you and the Princess ask for it?”
Xie Yun was even more displeased. He corrected her, “We are one family.”
Why was he so nitpicky with words? Sang Yao muttered an “oh.” He didn’t answer her previous question, as if he had tacitly agreed.
Sang Yao paused for a moment, a bold guess gradually forming in her mind. She stared at Xie Yun’s face, which showed no signs of desire or emotion, and asked uncertainly, “Is it… because of me?”
Xie Yun looked straight at her, still not denying it.
He continued, “Miss Sang, a plate of small pastries is nothing.”
“I hope you understand how ridiculous it was for you to be bought by Yang Wenchuan for a plate of pastries.”
He raised his hand, and Sang Yao followed his hand, looking at the various pastries on the table again.
“The milk cake you like is the most ordinary in taste among them. I think you should look further and you will find that there are many more delicious pastries than it.”
Sang Yao: “…”
She was speechless for a moment.
Xie Yun was right, but didn’t he find it strange to suddenly bring up something that happened months ago? And she had simply thought that the milk cake was delicious at the time.
She didn’t think much about it, and certainly wasn’t bought by anyone.
This matter was not worth mentioning at all.
She didn’t answer for a while, and after a long time, she asked the man with a calm face, “So, at the Princess’s residence that day, were you peeking at me?”
Otherwise, how would he know that she liked that milk cake? There was a moment of silence in the air.
Xie Yun pursed his thin lips, moved his gaze away from her, and said, “Don’t think too much.”
Xie Yun’s answer made Sang Yao more certain of her guess. She couldn’t help but raise the corner of her lips, leaned closer to him, and affirmed, “Xie Yun, so you were peeking at me, right?”
She peeked at him and got caught.
Several times, this time finally turned the tide.
Sang Yao was extremely happy. She tilted her head to look at Xie Yun’s face, and the look of triumph on her small face was very obvious.
She intensified, “Why aren’t you saying anything? Are you feeling guilty?”
Xie Yun chuckled, finally meeting her gaze. He said, “Why should I feel guilty?”
Sang Yao was just slow to react, not stupid.
She said truthfully, “Xie Yun, you’re so stubborn.”
“Are you jealous of Brother Yang?”
Could that be possible?
Xie Yun didn’t know how she came up with such irrelevant questions, but she seemed very convinced.
Her eyes were bright as she looked straight at him.
Xie Yun suddenly raised his hand, his fingers pinching the girl’s snowy white chin, his thumb touching her red lips.
Sang Yao stiffened for a moment, and the smile on her face gradually faded a bit.
She asked softly, “What’s wrong?”
Xie Yun half-closed his eyes. He said, “Don’t you know if I’m stubborn or not?” Sang Yao actually understood the meaning of this sentence.
Her face turned red, and she whispered, “Why are you saying this?”
Since they got married, Xie Yun had been acting strange, she couldn’t describe it, but the previous Xie Yun would definitely not touch her so easily, let alone say such things to her.
Perhaps the practice had some effect. In just one night, her sense of distance from Xie Yun had disappeared by half, and she didn’t think there was anything wrong with it.
She broke free from Xie Yun’s control, snorted, and said, “I’m going to sleep.”
Sang Yao turned and walked towards the bed. She had a habit of taking a nap, and subconsciously thought that Xie Yun would follow her and sleep together.
But when she sat on the bed, she found that Xie Yun not only didn’t come, but also got up and walked towards the long table.
There were some new things on it, all kinds of them, looking very complicated.
He sat down and calmly opened a copy of the estate newspaper. He didn’t look at her.
Sang Yao didn’t know why, but she was a little upset. She sat on the bed and looked at Xie Yun, feeling that he seemed to be reading the newspaper as seriously as he did last time.
If he wanted to look, he could just say so.
After waiting for a while, he still didn’t speak, and he seemed to be reading the newspaper very seriously, not even glancing in her direction.
Sang Yao said, “Didn’t you say we have nine days of marriage leave?”
Xie Yun still didn’t look at her, only saying, “You don’t need to worry about me.”
Sang Yao said, “Hmm.”
Xie Yun ignored her. If he didn’t speak, she wouldn’t either.
She angrily kicked off her shoes and lay down on the wide bed by herself.
The cicadas were singing outside in the summer, making the room even quieter. Sang Yao lay on her side with her back to Xie Yun, unable to fall asleep.
After tossing and turning for a while, she turned over and faced Xie Yun.
He had changed to another document, holding a wolf-hair brush in his hand, occasionally making annotations.
He was now quietly looking down, his impeccable handsome face showing no emotion.
At first, Sang Yao was a little worried that he would notice her watching him. But she had been staring at him for half an hour, and he hadn’t even raised his eyes.
Her hidden dissatisfaction became more apparent. Originally, she was going to sleep, but now she was lying wide-eyed, staring at Xie Yun, her cheeks gradually puffing up in anger.
Even though she didn’t know why she was angry.
Just as she was about to turn over and not look at him, Xie Yun suddenly put down his pen, raised his eyes, and looked directly at her.
Sang Yao’s heart tightened, and her momentum weakened.
Xie Yun said to her, “Come here.”
Sang Yao didn’t want to go over. Just now he told her not to worry about him.
“Don’t worry about him.”
But Xie Yun has been watching her all along.
After a short while, Sang Yao made a muffled sound, then slowly sat up and walked towards him.
Approaching the long table, Sang Yao asked him, “What’s the matter?” Leaning back in his chair, Xie Yun’s wolf hair brush slowly dripped ink onto the document. He said, “I did forget something.”
Sang Yao: “What?”
Xie Yun took Sang Yao’s wrist and pulled her closer.
Sitting on the Grand Master’s chair, he said to Sang Yao who was standing:
“Lower your head, I’ll tell you slowly.”
Sang Yao looked puzzled. She bent down half in belief and half in doubt, then leaned closer to Xie Yun and whispered, “Like this?”
Xie Yun nodded. He lifted his hand, grasped Sang Yao’s neck, and as Sang Yao turned to look at him in surprise, he pressed her towards him and kissed her again.
Sang Yao was somewhat stunned. Her first reaction was not to push him away, but to hesitantly raise her arm and embrace him in response.
That strange feeling came again.
She didn’t resist Xie Yun’s kiss. Her response to him seemed not only because of this brief practice but also subconsciously formed.
Every time she kissed Xie Yun, her heart would beat fast, as if it were about to jump out, but even so, she didn’t really want to resist.
Could it be because they were married?
Sang Yao felt awkward in this position. After a short while, she felt a bit tired. Xie Yun’s hand landed on her leg at the right moment, and with a slight force, he pressed Sang Yao onto his leg.
When they finally separated a bit, Sang Yao was panting lightly and asked him softly, “Do you want to kiss at noon too?”
Xie Yun nodded, his voice slightly hoarse, and said, “Remind me next time.”
He leaned back slightly, and the paper on the long table was knocked down by Sang Yao.
Xie Yun’s hand landed on Sang Yao’s waist. After saying this, he kissed her again.
Unlike the intense kiss before, this one was much gentler. However, soon his kiss went beyond her moist red lips.
Gradually, his kisses moved downward, reaching her chin and the swan-like slender neck, where he left marks last night.
He deepened the marks, and Sang Yao’s collar became slightly disheveled. She moved her hips and her eyes turned slightly red.
She couldn’t stand it and struggled a little, saying softly, “Don’t kiss there.”
Xie Yun’s hand slowly moved from her nape to her cheek. He lowered his eyes and with rare gentleness, he brushed the hair beside Sang Yao’s ear back.
His expression remained unchanged, but his voice was very soft, as if he were coaxing her, “Good, don’t move.” Sang Yao, feeling weak, stopped moving.
Xie Yun’s hand reached her collar and his slender fingers opened it slightly. In a patch of white, he saw a tiny red mole.
Not long ago, it was still proudly displayed in front of him. It had even entered his dreams.
He raised his eyes. Although Xie Yun was not one to smile often, Sang Yao felt that he looked quite pleased at the moment.
He politely asked, “Can I kiss it again?”
This man is really annoying. Why does he still need to ask her? He already kissed it yesterday. What else is there to ask?
Sang Yao wanted to refuse, but her mouth seemed to be out of her control.
After a while, she avoided his gaze, feeling extremely ashamed. She scolded herself for being so weak, but at the same time, she reluctantly leaned against him, embracing his actions.
In her heart, she kept telling herself.
In the end, Xie Yan still didn’t come to accompany her for the afternoon nap.
But when she returned to her bed again, she quickly fell asleep by herself and didn’t think about him anymore.
In the evening, Sang Yao went to the family banquet with Xie Yan. It was Sang Yao’s first day here, and the banquet was set up at the Ningxiang Pavilion.
The maids and servants were bustling around. After Sang Yao went over, she originally stayed by Xie Yan’s side, but was quickly called over by Yu Zhi.
“Yao Yao, are you used to living in the mansion?”
Sang Yao nodded and said, “Thank you for your concern, Second Sister-in-law. I’m used to it.”
Yu Zhi took Sang Yao’s hand and said, “If you have any requests, just tell the servants.”
She sighed and said, “I know that you just got married and must feel uncomfortable in some places. I was like that back then.”
Sang Yao actually didn’t feel uncomfortable at all.
The Xie family mansion was beyond imagination, and although there were many people in the mansion, it wasn’t easy to run into them.
And she especially liked Shen Miaoyi and Yu Zhi. These two people matched her preferences in appearance. She liked people who were gentle and looked like fairies.
Sang Yao nodded and said, “It’s okay, Second Sister-in-law. I should be familiar with it in two days.”
Yu Zhi glanced at Xie Yan beside her, then whispered to Sang Yao, “Yao Yao, did you notice that A Yun has been looking at you?” Sang Yao glanced at Xie Yun at the mention, only to see that Xie Yun was talking to a young uncle and didn’t look at her at all.
“He might have just glanced at me by chance.”
Yu Zhi said, “He turned his face away when he saw you looking over. Don’t believe him.”
In fact, one important reason why Shen Miaoyi was satisfied with Sang Yao was that she was personally selected by Xie Yun.
As the successor to the family head, even though Xie Yun always did things his own way and made people angry, it was undeniable that he had outstanding abilities in all aspects.
They believed in Xie Yun, so naturally they believed in the wife he chose.
During dinner, Sang Yao sat next to Xie Yun. At first, the topic was still on her, but as they talked, everyone opened up and talked about other things.
When it was time to disperse, Sang Yao, who was originally going to leave, was stopped by Shen Miaoyi.
