Chapter 4: What Did You Hear?
Li Yancheng weakly uttered only one word from his mouth: “Itchy.”
He tried to raise his hand to scratch the itch, but he couldn’t lift it at all, only able to wiggle his fingers.
But this small movement made Yu Lan and the others overjoyed.
The doctor looked at the monitoring equipment beside him, checked Li Yancheng again, and said happily: “The young master is indeed about to wake up. It should be the effect of the medicine taking effect. The unbearable itching stimulated the young master’s nerves.”
“Great, great…” Yu Lan said it several times in a row, reaching out to hold Li Yancheng’s hand tightly.
Another doctor on the side used a cotton swab to apply some medicine to Li Yancheng’s lips to relieve the itching.
“Unexpectedly, it worked out,” Li Minghai stood by the bed, his face full of smiles. “If we had known that giving Yancheng some poison could stimulate him to wake up, we would have done it earlier.”
At this time, a doctor quickly walked in from outside, holding a prepared antidote: “Master, Madam, this is the antidote we just prepared. After giving it to the young master, he will be fine in an hour.”
Watching the doctor feed Li Yancheng the antidote, Yu Lan asked expectantly: “When will he wake up?”
“He should wake up soon,” the doctor replied respectfully.
“Good, then I’ll wait here for Yancheng to wake up.” Yu Lan held Li Yancheng’s hand tightly.
Jiang Yan and Du Yaoyue were still kneeling on the ground. Yu Lan didn’t speak, and they dared not get up.
Seeing this, Li Minghai said to them: “Get up. Fortunately, it was a near miss. You actually helped Yancheng, stimulating him to wake up earlier.”
Turning his head, Li Minghai said to Yu Lan: “Then the punishment…”
“It was a fluke, but poisoning him and negligence in care are facts,” Yu Lan didn’t intend to let it go. “Take them further away. Yancheng is about to wake up; don’t disturb him.”
The smiles that had just appeared on Jiang Yan and Du Yaoyue’s faces because of Li Minghai’s words disappeared instantly because of Yu Lan’s words.
It seemed that the fifteen lashes were unavoidable.
Jiang Yan and Du Yaoyue were taken out of the villa and walked through the back garden.
Under the moonlight, the lights stretched their shadows long.
The night wind blew, carrying a chill, as if it blew into Jiang Yan’s heart, and at this moment, her heart felt cold.
After walking for a while, Butler Du stopped them.
Jiang Yan didn’t know where this was, only that her hands and feet were held down by the servants, and she was forced to lie on a long stone bench.
Soon, the long whip swung and landed on her back.
Hiss…
Instant pain came, and Jiang Yan’s forehead was covered in sweat.
And beside her, Du Yaoyue’s pig-like screams rang out: “Ah… it hurts… Aaaaaah…”
Jiang Yan endured several lashes before she couldn’t take it anymore. Thinking that Du Yaoyue was already screaming, what was there for her to not scream about.
Thus, under the night sky, the cries of two young girls rose and fell alternately.
Fifteen lashes wouldn’t kill Jiang Yan, but her entire back was beaten until the skin was broken and the flesh was blurred.
She didn’t expect Yu Lan to be so ruthless.
It seemed that life in the Li family would be more dangerous than she thought, and she had to be more careful and cautious.
Jiang Yan was helped to the room next to Li Yancheng’s by the servants.
The pain made it impossible for her to walk independently.
Her back was full of whip wounds, and she could only lie on the bed.
Butler Du found a female doctor to treat her wounds.
Jiang Yan tightly grasped the bedsheet with both hands, and the pain made her slender white fingers bulge with veins.
Especially when the doctor disinfected and applied medicine to her wounds, she was so painful that her whole body was covered in cold sweat.
She was just a weak woman after all, and she couldn’t bear the pain and fainted.
Because of this beating, Jiang Yan’s wound became infected and caused a fever.
Her temperature rose to 39 degrees Celsius.
For the next week, Jiang Yan spent it in bed.
During this week, besides the doctor who changed her dressing on time and the servants who delivered her meals on time, only Butler Du and Li Minghai came to see her.
Li Minghai brought a tube of ointment and said: “This is a scar removal ointment. You girls all love beauty. After the wound heals, apply it, and it won’t leave scars.”
“Thank you.” Jiang Yan could still only lie on the bed, nodding to Li Minghai to express her gratitude.
“Sigh…” Li Minghai sighed, “Don’t blame Yu Lan. The Li family is so big, she has to manage the whole family, and she can’t be too soft-hearted.”
“I understand. I didn’t blame Madam. It was indeed my fault for not taking good care of the CEO,” Jiang Yan said.
Most of the Li family’s internal affairs were handled by Yu Lan, who was always decisive and had unchallengeable authority.
Li Minghai, on the other hand, believed in Buddhism and had a kinder heart.
“You married Yancheng, you should call Yu Lan ‘Mom’ and me ‘Dad’. But I know Yu Lan’s personality; she certainly won’t accept you calling her ‘Mom’ now.”
Li Minghai said: “However, since you’ve married into the Li family, you’re part of the Li family. If you have any grievances in the future, feel free to tell me.”
“Thank you.” Jiang Yan thanked him again.
“I won’t disturb your rest.” Li Minghai smiled serenely, nodded slightly, and left.
A few days later, Jiang Yan was able to get out of bed.
Having been in bed for so long, she couldn’t lie down anymore. After getting out of bed, she moved around.
When she reached Li Yancheng’s door, she saw the door ajar.
From inside, Li Yancheng’s angry voice came: “Mom, don’t you think it’s ridiculous? Just because a fortune teller said her birthdate is compatible with mine, you guys took the initiative to marry her to me?”
“Six months ago, you were in a coma after a car accident. The doctor said your physical signs have all returned to normal, but it’s strange that you haven’t woken up.
Grandpa hired someone to tell a fortune, saying that you need to have a joyous event.
I naturally didn’t believe it, but as you know, your grandfather and your father believe in these things.
Most importantly…”
The following words were much quieter, and Jiang Yan couldn’t hear them clearly, and subconsciously leaned closer.
And with this lean, her center of gravity was unstable, and her whole body fell towards the door.
The door was ajar, and Jiang Yan fell directly to the ground.
“Ah…” The pain made Jiang Yan subconsciously cry out.
Yu Lan and Li Yancheng’s gazes instantly fell on her.
Both of their eyes were extremely cold, scaring Jiang Yan into swallowing her saliva.
The fifteen lashes she received ten days ago hadn’t healed yet.
“I-I-I…” Jiang Yan, disregarding the pain, hurriedly explained, “The doctor said I could get out of bed and move around properly, so I just walked around, but… but I didn’t expect that when I passed by the door, the wound started to hurt, and I didn’t stand firm, so… so I fell…”
“What did you hear?” Yu Lan narrowed her eyes, looking at her as if sizing her up, and asked coldly.
At this time, if Jiang Yan said she hadn’t heard anything, it would seem too fake.
So she truthfully said: “I heard you say that it was because my birthdate was compatible with the CEO’s, so you married me to bring good fortune. I didn’t hear anything else.”
Yu Lan carefully examined Jiang Yan’s expression, as if she was seeing if she was lying.
