Chapter 9: What Is Your Purpose In Marrying Into The Li Family?
After returning to the room, Jiang Yan continued to take care of Li Yancheng as before, waiting for him to call on her whenever he needed anything.
Looking at Li Yancheng’s focused work, Jiang Yan’s expression darkened.
After tonight’s dinner, she understood even more clearly how difficult it was to gain a foothold in the Li family.
She also understood why Li Yancheng had been working so hard these days.
It was to be able to compete with Li Yanshen for the cooperation today.
His seclusion was likely an attempt to hide the news of his recovery.
Suddenly, Li Yancheng’s cold voice came, “Disappointed to learn the bracelet isn’t an heirloom?”
Jiang Yan immediately shook her head. Knowing Li Yancheng couldn’t see her since he was facing away, she quickly added, “Not disappointed. Rather, it’s good that it’s not an heirloom.
Even though I married you, this marriage is a joke. If it were a real heirloom bracelet, I wouldn’t dare accept it.”
Li Yancheng turned around, his gaze carefully scanning Jiang Yan’s face, as if trying to determine if she was lying.
After a moment of silence, he asked, “What is your purpose in marrying into the Li family?”
The word “purpose” made Jiang Yan’s heart skip a beat.
She instantly calmed herself, a fearful yet slightly apprehensive smile on her face. Her small hands nervously fiddled with her clothes, biting her lip, she said with great embarrassment, “I… I need money. My mother is in the hospital and needs money for surgery, and my brother needs money for university tuition.”
“Madam said that as long as I marry you, she will find the best doctor for my mother’s surgery and give me one million yuan a month.”
“After two years of divorce, she will also give me fifty million yuan at once.”
“Heh…” Li Yancheng sneered, “Anything else?”
He naturally knew about these things.
But hearing Jiang Yan admit it herself felt different.
Jiang Yan guessed he was asking because he had found out about the Weibo posts she had made.
So she lowered her head slightly, shaking her head with a shy and embarrassed look.
Seeing her like this, Li Yancheng became even more convinced that she secretly admired him.
Li Yancheng patted his thigh, his smile turning cruel, “Do you know how I got into the car accident?”
Jiang Yan shook her head.
“You don’t know anything, yet you dare marry into the Li family for money?” Li Yancheng narrowed his eyes.
“I only know that I need money, and Madam gave me money,” Jiang Yan’s delicate face was full of sincerity, “Since I married you for money, I will listen to Madam and take good care of you.”
“You’re quite naive,” Li Yancheng said coldly, looking at Jiang Yan’s innocent and inexperienced appearance, “Someone like you won’t know how you die.”
“Ah?” Jiang Yan looked bewildered, “What do you mean?”
Li Yancheng didn’t answer her, turning around and muttering, “Why am I telling you all this?”
Looking at Li Yancheng’s back, Jiang Yan’s gaze softened slightly.
He told her so much, was he concerned about her?
Good.
Although his body wasn’t fully recovered, Li Yancheng had been working diligently.
He worked until midnight.
Except for meals and necessary bathroom breaks, he hardly left his office chair.
Since Li Yancheng didn’t rest, Jiang Yan naturally stayed with him.
When he finished working and turned around, he saw Jiang Yan already asleep on the table.
One of her hands was pressed under her head, the other hanging vertically by her side.
Her beautiful long hair was scattered casually.
Getting closer, he could smell the scent of jasmine from her hair.
Light and faint, yet exceptionally pleasant.
Li Yancheng frowned slightly. Sleeping like that, her hand would soon go numb.
With a cold face, he said loudly, “I’m going to rest. Go prepare my toiletries.”
Jiang Yan woke up, opened her eyes and saw Li Yancheng, immediately apologizing, “Sorry, I’ll go prepare it right away.”
She quickly took a clean and comfortable pajama set from the closet and put it in the bathroom, squeezed out the toothpaste, and filled the cup with water.
Finally, she tested the water temperature and filled the bathtub.
After Li Yancheng finished washing up, Jiang Yan started to wash up herself.
When she came out after washing up, Li Yancheng was already lying in bed resting.
She naturally could only continue sleeping on the sofa.
Most of the wounds on her back had scabbed over, and at night, besides the pain, they often itched.
Jiang Yan couldn’t reach her back and dared not scratch it hard.
The pain and itchiness made her toss and turn, unable to sleep at all.
But she didn’t dare make too much noise, afraid of waking Li Yancheng.
After a long time of discomfort, she finally fell asleep.
In her sleep, she felt someone lift her back clothes, and a cool ointment was applied to her wounds.
Slowly, the wounds stopped hurting and itching.
In the latter half of the night, Jiang Yan slept more comfortably.
Over the next ten days, Li Yancheng diligently underwent rehabilitation while working hard.
Gradually, he could walk normally.
Jiang Yan knew that every night, after she fell asleep, Li Yancheng applied medicine to her back.
So the wounds on her back had almost healed.
After his recovery, the first thing Li Yancheng did was go to the company.
With only Jiang Yan left in the house, she became bored.
In the Li family, besides taking care of Li Yancheng, she had nothing else to do.
Her gaze fell on the bracelet on her wrist, and Jiang Yan’s eyes darkened.
Although the Li family was mainly managed by Yu Lan, the old master was still there, and everyone still respected the old master.
Perhaps, she should go see the old master.
Jiang Yan didn’t know much about the old master, so she went to find Butler Du, “Butler Du, I’d like to ask, what does Grandpa like to eat?
Now that the CEO has gone to the company, I have nothing to do, so I thought I’d make something Grandpa likes to eat and show my respect.”
Butler Du initially looked down on Jiang Yan, but after the incident where Du Yao Yue tried to poison her, Jiang Yan gave Du Yao Yue a chance, and Butler Du began to respect her.
“I didn’t expect the young mistress to be so filial,” Butler Du smiled, truthfully saying, “The old master likes sweets, but his health isn’t good, he has high blood sugar and high cholesterol, so he rarely eats sweets.
Also, the old master’s diet is planned by a special Chinese medicine doctor.
And the old master likes peace and quiet, it’s possible that even if the young mistress brings things over, she may not even see the old master.”
Jiang Yan smiled and nodded in thanks, “Thank you, Butler Du, then I’ll try making some low-sugar sweets.
As for whether Grandpa sees me or not, that’s Grandpa’s business, I’ll just do my own thing.”
Seeing Jiang Yan’s well-behaved and sensible appearance, Butler Du’s face showed a satisfied smile.
This young mistress is beautiful, well-behaved, sensible, and clean and simple.
If her family background were better, she would be a good wife and a good helper to the young master.
It’s just… a pity.
