Chapter 11: Speak, What Reward Do You Want?
The moment the words “jealous” were uttered, Li Yancheng’s face flushed.
He cleared his throat, his hand slapping heavily on the table, producing a crisp sound. His tone became sharper: “Jiang Yan, do you think that by pleasing Grandpa, you can act recklessly?”
The smile on Jiang Yan’s face instantly vanished. She lowered her voice and apologized, “I didn’t mean that. I was just joking. If you don’t like it, I won’t do it again.”
Seeing Jiang Yan’s sincere apology, Li Yancheng was somewhat at a loss.
“Boring,” Li Yancheng sighed almost imperceptibly.
“What do you want to eat? I’ll make it for you now,” Jiang Yan cautiously asked him.
“Whatever,” Li Yancheng waved his hand impatiently.
“Then I’ll decide,” Jiang Yan nodded slightly and turned to leave the room to cook.
Just as she took a step, Li Yancheng’s voice came from behind: “Make the dessert you made for Grandpa today.”
He wanted to taste it himself and see just how delicious it was to have pleased his grandfather so much.
“Okay,” Jiang Yan immediately agreed.
On her way to the kitchen, Jiang Yan was already thinking about what dishes to prepare.
It was already late, so she couldn’t make anything too complicated, otherwise, Li Yancheng wouldn’t eat until very late.
But it couldn’t be too casual either, otherwise, he might think she was perfunctory.
In the end, Jiang Yan prepared three dishes and a soup, plus the baked pancakes she had made for the old master today.
Jiang Yan originally planned to bring the food to the room, but when she passed the dining room, she found Li Yancheng and Yu Lan already waiting for her.
Jiang Yan placed the dishes: “It’s a bit late today, I just made a few simple dishes. Please try them and see if they suit your taste.”
Jiang Yan held the chopsticks in both hands, first handing them to Yu Lan, then to Li Yancheng.
“Not bad,” Li Yancheng nodded after taking a bite. “No wonder you can win Grandpa’s favor.”
Receiving the compliment, Jiang Yan smiled: “If the CEO likes it, I can make it anytime you want to eat it.”
“It’s quite good, but just a few bites of food can make Dad so happy?” Yu Lan frowned slightly, her gaze sweeping over Jiang Yan. “What other tricks did you use?”
“I didn’t use any tricks,” Jiang Yan held up her hands, explaining anxiously, “I just asked Butler Du about Grandpa’s preferences, but I make a fixed amount of dessert for Grandpa every day, it won’t burden his health.”
Seeing Jiang Yan’s frightened and cautious appearance, Li Yancheng picked up a pancake and said, “Okay, Mom, she’s so timid, if you scare her again, she’ll be scared out of her wits.
Anyway, pleasing Grandpa is a good thing for us.”
Yu Lan nodded: “I didn’t expect you to have some skills. We usually have to watch Dad’s face to see him.”
“The rules of our Li family are that there are punishments for wrongdoing and rewards for merit.” Yu Lan looked at Jiang Yan, “Speak, what reward do you want?”
Hearing the word reward, Jiang Yan’s beautiful big eyes lit up, and she happily asked, “Anything?”
“As long as it’s not too excessive,” Yu Lan glanced at her, as if warning her not to go too far.
“Then, can I go back to work at the company?” Jiang Yan tentatively said, “And, I want to see my mother.”
Since marrying into the Li family, Jiang Yan had not left the Li family’s gates.
Yu Lan lowered her head slightly, as if thinking.
“What about Grandpa?” Li Yancheng’s expression became serious. “Don’t you have to send Grandpa desserts every day?”
“Grandpa’s health isn’t suitable for eating desserts every day. I’ve already told Grandpa that I’ll send him some every two or three days.”
Jiang Yan quickly answered, “After you go to work, I have nothing to do at home, and I really miss working before.”
“Now that you’ve made Grandpa so happy, if we don’t agree, you’ll go to Grandpa and cry to him…”
Before Li Yancheng finished speaking, Jiang Yan immediately said, “I won’t, I won’t do that.”
Although she said so, Jiang Yan knew very well in her heart.
If she hadn’t pleased Grandpa and had some use in the Li family, they wouldn’t have agreed to her request.
“Okay, then you can go back to work at the company,” Li Yancheng nodded.
“Thank you, CEO,” Jiang Yan immediately nodded in thanks. “Thank you, Madam.”
Yu Lan frowned and looked at Li Yancheng, whispering to him, “When did you become so easy to talk to?”
“Didn’t you say that there should be rewards for merit?” Li Yancheng blinked. “Besides, this isn’t an excessive request.”
Li Yancheng then turned to Jiang Yan, his tone colder: “However, you can’t tell anyone about our relationship, and you can’t take advantage of the title of CEO’s wife to act recklessly.”
“Don’t worry, I absolutely won’t,” Jiang Yan solemnly raised her hand, looking as if she were taking an oath.
Seeing this, Yu Lan didn’t say anything else.
After dinner with Li Yancheng, Jiang Yan returned to his room with him.
As soon as she entered the room, Jiang Yan smiled and poured Li Yancheng a glass of water, placing it on the table beside him, and also cut some fruit.
Then she gently said to him, “CEO, you’ve worked hard, let me massage your shoulders?”
Li Yancheng looked at Jiang Yan’s happy, sparkling eyes, frowning in confusion: “Is there anything else?”
“No, I just want to thank you for speaking up for me in front of Madam.”
As Jiang Yan spoke, she had already walked behind Li Yancheng, gently massaging his shoulders. “CEO, is the pressure okay?”
“Mm.” A comfortable feeling came from his shoulders, Li Yancheng closed his eyes in enjoyment.
The corners of his lips slowly curved upward.
This Jiang Yan, she’s quite grateful.
That night, everyone was quite happy.
The next day, Jiang Yan didn’t go to work immediately, but went to the hospital to see her mother first.
Seeing her mother lying in bed with tubes all over her body, Jiang Yan’s eyes instantly welled up.
She wiped her tears, knelt down and held her mother’s hand, choking back sobs: “Mom, I’m here to see you.”
Although Yu Lan had found the best doctor as promised, Jiang Manzhen needed a kidney transplant.
She and her brother had been matched, but neither was a match.
There was still no suitable kidney source, so they could only wait.
“Mom, you must hold on, a kidney source will be available soon,” Jiang Yan held Jiang Manzhen’s thin hand tightly, tears falling on her back. “I’ll come to see you often.”
“Yan Yan…” Jiang Manzhen heard Jiang Yan’s voice and slowly, painfully opened her eyes.
She slowly raised her hand and touched Jiang Yan’s face: “Where have you been these days?”
Jiang Yan hadn’t been to the hospital for more than a month.
Jiang Yan swallowed, her eyes darting around: “Work was busy, I came a few times very late, you were asleep, so I didn’t wake you up.”
“Even if work is busy, you must pay attention to your health, don’t tire yourself out, you know?” Jiang Manzhen said with concern.
“I will, don’t worry,” Jiang Yan nodded with tears in her eyes.
She didn’t dare look into Jiang Manzhen’s eyes.
She kept saying sorry in her heart.
Because Jiang Manzhen didn’t allow her to have any contact with the Li family.
Even Jiang Yan joining Li’s Group was kept a secret from her.
Jiang Manzhen always thought that Jiang Yan was working in an ordinary small company.
