The next day.
Qin Tianru slept soundly until dawn. Despite the circumstances, her carefree and easygoing nature allowed her to rest peacefully, sinking into a deep slumber.
When she opened her eyes, she immediately realized she was lying sideways across the blanket, having taken up the entire makeshift bed. The long down jacket was tucked tightly around her.
Staring at the unfamiliar surroundings, Qin Tianru blinked, her mind slowly catching up.
“Oh right… I time-traveled.”
She glanced around the cave and saw only a smoldering fire pit emitting faint wisps of smoke, but there was no sign of Qi Han.
In a flash, Qin Tianru sat up, her face clouded with panic.
In this completely unfamiliar environment, she still felt uneasy—everything was unknown and uncertain. The only connection she had in this strange world was her so-called “partner.”
“Qi Han!”
She couldn’t help but call out his name, quickly getting up and smoothing her clothes before heading toward the cave entrance.
Pushing aside the weeds covering the entrance, she stared at the rugged mountain forest, utterly lost. She stood there blankly, unsure which way to go.
“Qi Han!”
Had he left her behind and gone off on his own?
What was she supposed to do now?
“Did you rest well?”
Just as Qin Tianru’s mood was sinking, a familiar voice sounded beside her. Instantly delighted, she turned toward the sound.
“Qi Han!”
Qi Han walked over at a steady pace. Noticing her unsettled expression, he quickened his steps until he stood right in front of her.
“What’s wrong? Did you see a wild animal?”
At his question, Qin Tianru pouted, her grievances spilling out. “Where did you go? Why didn’t you wake me up? I thought you’d left me behind!”
Qi Han was momentarily stunned, then chuckled. “Why would you think that? Didn’t you say you came here to be my wife? How could I possibly abandon my own wife and run off alone?”
Besides, his little wife was so sweet and thoughtful—how could he bear to leave her behind? If anything, he wanted to take her home immediately and keep her all to himself.
After all, she was one of a kind.
Hearing this, Qin Tianru’s face brightened, her mood lifting like clouds clearing after rain.
“Then where did you go so early in the morning?”
Qi Han raised his hand slightly. “I was just scouting the nearby area and picked some wild fruit.”
He had been worried that the pursuers might have tracked their trail. In his past life, he had been unconscious for two or three days and had no idea whether those people had come looking for him during that time.
But now, with the changes in this timeline, who knew if things would unfold differently?
As a man, he could handle anything, but with her here now, he had to be extra cautious.
Qin Tianru frowned, finally recalling the hazy details she had overlooked the night before.
With everything that had happened yesterday—one thing after another—she had been thorough in explaining her own situation but had forgotten to ask him about his.
Now that he mentioned it, she vaguely remembered him hinting last night that he had been framed.
So, what exactly had he gone through?
And what was the deal with his rebirth?
Come to think of it, her partner seemed to have just as many mysteries as she did—maybe even more.
“Is the area safe now?”
Qi Han’s expression turned solemn. “It seems those people didn’t follow us here.”
When he had tumbled down the steep slope, the pursuers had stopped chasing him. They probably assumed the drop was into a deep ravine and that he had little chance of survival.
