Chapter 19: Ji Duan’s Wife Fund is Gone
Ji Duan knocked on the door, and only then did Ruan Yan put down the book in his hands and look over.
Xiao Jin’s head was still buried, and he didn’t lift it.
Receiving a nod of acknowledgment, Ji Duan walked over to the floor-to-ceiling window, placed several test tubes on the small coffee table nearby, and said to Ruan Yan, “This is N78.”
Ruan Yan gave him a grateful look. “Thank you.”
As Ji Duan turned to leave, his phone suddenly rang. He took it out, glanced at it, and then muttered a curse, quickly running out of the study room.
Ruan Yan stared at the spot where Ji Duan had just left, lost in thought. It wasn’t because of Ji Duan leaving.
It was because he hadn’t expected to obtain the N78 so easily.
When he came to his senses, he found that Xiao Jin had, at some point, slightly lifted his head, revealing one eye as it stared at Ruan Yan.
Seemingly noticing something, Ruan Yan lowered his gaze and met his eyes.
A strong scent spilled between their lips and teeth. Xiao Jin suddenly lifted his head and kissed Ruan Yan, catching him off guard.
A soft, lingering kiss, filled with entanglement.
Xiao Jin had never kissed him like this before. Ruan Yan struggled to withstand it, and even more so, the frantic beating of his heart.
Pheromones could influence emotions, and Ruan Yan attributed all the strange feelings he had toward Xiao Jin to their high pheromone compatibility.
The more he interacted with Xiao Jin, the more he believed what Dr. Wen had said about their pheromone compatibility, because sometimes, even he couldn’t help but do things beyond his control.
When they were in bed, he was no longer as resistant as he had been at the start. With Xiao Jin by his side, he rested well.
Xiao Jin had initially been drawn in by Ruan Yan’s pheromones, and just now, seeing Ruan Yan staring at Ji Duan’s retreating figure with a hint of distraction and jealousy, had only made him kiss him.
What started as gentle nibbles and soft kisses gradually turned into a greedy, consuming ravishment.
As the sky darkened, the soft couch became a mess. Ruan Yan pulled Xiao Jin’s shirt over his body, covering himself.
A pair of slightly reddened eyes glared at Xiao Jin with accusation. Xiao Jin, drawn in by that gaze, felt a surge of emotion and couldn’t resist.
Not sure how much time had passed, Ruan Yan lay sulking on the soft couch, while Xiao Jin was picking up the scattered clothes on the floor. After tidying up, he immediately grabbed a blanket, wrapped Ruan Yan in it, and carried him back to the bedroom to take a shower.
**
Ji Duan went to scout out the bar. As he looked at his bank card and saw the money for his wife’s dowry had vanished completely, he almost couldn’t catch his breath.
He had his subordinates, who were skilled in computer technology, help trace where his savings had gone.
However, the person who took the money was highly capable. Even the top tech expert under his boss couldn’t find out who they were.
All they could narrow down was that the general location was at the scouting bar.
His wife’s dowry!
Even if he had to turn the bar upside down, he was determined to find the person.
At the bar counter.
Zhou Shiyu sat with his leg propped up, idly playing with his phone. From time to time, he glanced at it and scoffed at the additional amount of money that had appeared.
“Tsk tsk tsk, really poor.”
The money he made from taking orders was even more than this.
It was Zhou Shiyu who transferred the money from Ji Duan’s card.
Ruan Yan had asked him to investigate Xiao Jin’s identity, and he did, uncovering quite a bit in the process.
Someone like that… no wonder the Federal is wary of him.
At only twenty-five years old, he already controls countless industries, owns the resources of an entire island, and operates outside the Federal’s control.
Even Zhou Shiyu himself was growing more and more unsettled the further he dug.
Thinking back to when Xiao Jin suddenly appeared in the private room, Zhou Shiyu felt a chill run down his spine. He considered himself lucky that his head was still attached to his neck.
As for Ji Duan, he was Xiao Jin’s assistant.
He still couldn’t understand how someone so powerful could have such a poor assistant.
He couldn’t afford to offend the other party, but he had to get revenge for what happened that day!
He couldn’t take on Xiao Jin, but surely he could deal with one of his subordinates!
If that guy hadn’t insisted on yapping on and on, would he have been suppressed to the point where his pheromones nearly went out of control?
The more he thought about it, the angrier he got. Zhou Shiyu angrily drank the wine in his glass in one gulp.
It was the perfect time for the bar to open, and the place was bustling with activity.
But tonight, it seemed like things weren’t going as smoothly as usual.
At that moment, a waiter personally summoned by Zhou Shiyu suddenly ran over, holding a syringe with purple liquid inside. He handed the syringe to Zhou Shiyu, saying, “Boss, I found this while cleaning one of the private rooms today!”
Zhou Shiyu casually glanced at his hand, but his expression suddenly sharpened. He snatched the syringe and asked with a tense look, “Where did you find this?”
The waiter quickly responded, “In a private room on the third floor.”
Bars like this are chaotic, and there are all kinds of people. But what bars fear most is when some people bring dangerous items along.
Zhou Shiyu quickly composed himself, tightening his grip on the syringe. If this was found in his bar and the Security Management Department showed up for an inspection, if they found this, no matter how many explanations he gave, he wouldn’t be able to clear himself.
Zhou Shiyu regained his calm and said to the waiter, “Go, have all the bar staff search every corner of the private rooms upstairs. If you find anything like this again, hand it over to me immediately.”
“Understood, Boss.”
After the waiter left, Zhou Shiyu turned his attention to the bartender at the bar. “Arrange for someone to inform all the guests that the bar will be closed for the night for maintenance. When we reopen, we’ll offer them drinks as an apology.”
The bartender was a little stunned, but seeing Zhou Shiyu’s serious expression, he quickly snapped to attention and responded, “Got it.”
Zhou Shiyu squeezed the syringe in his hand.
It was N78.
Who brought the illegal drug into his bar?
Zhou Shiyu remained silent for a moment, then stood up and walked deeper inside.
The staff at the bar were already in the process of evacuating the guests, some of whom were reluctant to leave and were arguing.
At that moment, a group of people in uniforms suddenly stormed in. Everyone immediately recognized the badges on their uniforms — they were from the Federal Police Department.
The sudden appearance of the Federal Police caused chaos to erupt inside the bar.
Zhou Shiyu hadn’t expected the Federal Police to arrive so quickly.
Leaving aside whether there was any other N78 hidden in his bar, he already had one syringe in hand. If the police found it, no matter how many excuses he had, he wouldn’t be able to explain himself.
Without hesitation, Zhou Shiyu turned and walked toward the back door of the bar.
His phone rang, and he answered it.
It was a call from the bar’s staff. “Boss, the police said they want you to come to the station for questioning.”
Zhou Shiyu casually made up a reason. “Tell them I wasn’t at the bar today.”
Questioning my ass. He had N78 in his hands.
Even if he had connections in the Department of Public Safety, there was no way he could escape this.
Ji Duan stood outside the yellow line.
He had just been about to go into the bar to find someone when he was pushed outside the yellow line by the Federal Police.
But no matter what, the bar wasn’t his concern. Then he quickly realized, “Damn, my capital!”
His money had just been transferred out. Although he didn’t know who did it, he knew the general direction, so it wouldn’t be hard to find them.
But now, with the Federal Police controlling the bar, going into the bar to find someone was basically hopeless.
“Damn it, my money.” He had been planning to catch the person and hang them up for a day, beating them to vent his frustration, but now, everything was gone.
Ji Duan turned and left. After taking a few steps, the more he thought about it, the angrier he got.
When he had come to the bar, he had briefly thought about whether he had offended anyone recently.
After mentally scanning through the situation, he finally settled on the bar’s owner.
It was the same person who had met with Ruan Yan before. The boss had even gotten so angry over it.
Later, when he was carrying the person away, that mouth almost cursed his entire ancestry.
He remembered being so annoyed at the time that he slapped Zhou Shiyu on the backside, and immediately, the person fell silent.
The more Ji Duan thought about it, the more he was convinced that his capital had definitely been transferred by the bar’s owner!
He glanced at the bar again; the Federal Police had just arrived.
After surveying the area, Ji Duan quickly darted into an alleyway around the corner. He planned to sneak in from the back and catch the person.
Before he could reach the door, suddenly, a dark figure collided with him. Instinctively, Ji Duan grabbed the person’s arm and slammed them against the wall.
Zhou Shiyu had just exited the bar’s back door. The alley was dark, but the end of the alley was blocked with a banner.
Fortunately, no one was guarding the back yet, so he still had a chance to escape.
He turned and was ready to charge toward the less crowded area, but suddenly collided with something hard.
The next second, his arm was twisted, and he was pushed against the wall.
His face pressed against the cold, rough wall, and it was uncomfortable.
But the other person had a lot of strength. He struggled, but it was useless.
