Chapter 2: Stockpiling for the Apocalypse
The biggest shortage in the apocalypse is supplies.
To survive, you have to stock up!
Lin Xiaodou spent a full two hours gathering her thoughts.
She compiled the most comprehensive stockpiling guide she could find online.
She had also figured out where to store everything.
Just now, she took a mental tour of the space with her thoughts.
Those stone houses looked small from the outside, but once inside, they were infinitely spacious—perfect for storing supplies.
There were over ten stone houses, each designated for a different category of goods.
She had tested it too—everything placed inside the space remained fresh indefinitely. No need to worry about spoilage.
Very quickly, Lin Xiaodou began her journey of stockpiling.
First and foremost—food.
Only with a full belly can one have the energy to do anything else.
The northeastern region of Huaguo is the country’s largest grain-producing base.
Before going, Lin Xiaodou called several suppliers and even rented a few large warehouses on the outskirts via the internet.
She ordered 20,000 catties of various types of rice in one go, and 10,000 catties each of flour, corn, soybeans, potatoes, and sweet potatoes.
As for miscellaneous items like beets, beans, and dried goods—5,000 catties each.
She didn’t buy much else. Since the space was huge anyway, she decided to purchase a large quantity of crop seeds to be self-sufficient in the future.
After buying the seeds, Lin Xiaodou went to a store that sold agricultural machinery.
She bought ten sets each of harvesters, tractors, rice transplanters, fertilizer spreaders, seeders, sprayers, irrigation systems, and other crop-related machines. She also picked up some fertilizers and agricultural chemicals.
While buying, she also asked for instruction manuals—otherwise, she wouldn’t know how to use any of it.
This stockpiling trip to the northeast cost Lin Xiaodou tens of millions.
When people asked why she was buying so many agricultural goods, she gave a standard response:
She was opening a massive supermarket and needed to purchase a large quantity of supplies.
With that vague answer, the suppliers didn’t probe further.
If there’s money to be made, only a fool would refuse it—no need to ask too many questions, just fulfill the orders.
Next, Lin Xiaodou went to Shan Province—the country’s largest vegetable production base.
She bought 5,000 catties each of tomatoes, carrots, pumpkins, winter melons, cabbage, spinach, amaranth, cilantro, green beans, chili peppers, onions, garlic, and so on.
Naturally, she didn’t forget vegetable seeds. There were over 200 varieties in total, all of which she planned to grow in her space later.
A good meal consists of rice, vegetables, and naturally—meat and fruit can’t be left out.
So Lin Xiaodou went to the largest wholesale meat market.
She bought 5,000 catties each of chicken, duck, pork, lamb, beef, and rabbit meat, along with 1,000 live chickens, ducks, pigs, sheep, cows, and rabbits each.
As soon as the little critters entered the space, they happily scampered around exploring.
The space was vast and had fresh air—they quickly grew fond of the new environment.
Near the wholesale meat market was a frozen and cooked food section, where Lin Xiaodou bought a few more things.
Especially in the cooked food area—she picked up braised chicken, marinated chicken legs, stewed duck, braised chicken necks, chicken liver, chicken feet, gizzards…
Also braised pig head meat, pig ears, pig trotters, pig stomach, pork intestines—1,000 catties of each.
Her favorite was the spicy marinated series.
Especially the spicy duck heads—spicy, fragrant, and satisfying with every bite.
She also bought 3,000 catties each of spicy duck necks, duck feet, duck stomachs, chicken feet, pig trotters, and more.
If she didn’t feel like cooking in the future, gnawing on a plate of duck heads and feet would be enough to fill her up.
Delightful~
As for fruit, Lin Xiaodou’s favorite was grapes.
The sensation of translucent grapes bursting with juice in her mouth—truly unparalleled.
Now that she had money, she didn’t need to look at price tags when buying anything.
The ultra-bouncy, plump premium Shine Muscat grapes were 99 yuan per jin, and Lin Xiaodou bought 5,000 jin in one go.
Back in the day, she could only afford to buy knock-off Shine Muscats from those street carts.
Even those were expensive—9.9 yuan per jin—and she could only afford to eat them once a month.
But now, she was spending tens of thousands in a single purchase. Just thinking about it felt unreal.
Indeed, once people have money, they stop caring about spending it.
Aside from Shine Muscats, Lin Xiaodou also bought Kyoho, Red Globe, Golden Finger, and green grapes. She practically bought out all the grape suppliers she could find.
And that wasn’t all—she went straight to the largest wholesale fruit market.
Durian, strawberries, mangoes, apples, bananas, pears, dragon fruit, kiwi, guava, wax apples, blueberries, cherries—she bought 5,000 jin of each.
She also bought dozens of types of fruit seeds, intending to plant them in her space later.
Of course, her favorite seafood couldn’t be left out.
Grass carp, snakehead fish, crucian carp, bass, eels, yellow croaker, turbot, and other fresh aquatic products.
Red scallops, ark clams, conchs, redlip fish, black abalone, clams, arctic surf clams—she bought a wide variety of shellfish.
Australian lobster, Boston lobster, rostrum shrimp, prawn, swimming crab, flower crab, king crab—she got every kind of shrimp and crab.
Lin Xiaodou bought 10,000 jin of each kind—probably enough to last a hundred years.
Luckily, her space had a massive lake—just right to keep them in.
After covering the necessities for filling her belly, it was time to buy snacks.
She rushed off to the biggest snack wholesale market and began another spree.
Bread, milk candies, peanut crisps, dried fruits, pistachios, macadamia nuts, peanuts, sunflower seeds, preserved plums, Vienna biscuits, mung bean cakes, chocolate…
And of course, her all-time favorites: potato chips, jelly, spicy strips—she bought 5,000 jin of each kind.
She stored all these snacks in a stone house dedicated solely to them; the pile looked like a mini mountain.
Then came drinks and beverages.
Cola, yogurt, coffee, mineral water, beer, red wine, white spirits—thousands of types.
With a grand wave of her hand, Lin Xiaodou ordered 10,000 bottles of each.
She even made a trip to the most famous gourmet street.
Snail noodles, Beijing roast duck, hot pot, lamb stew, seafood feasts, stuffed pancakes, stinky tofu, spicy pork strips, fried meatballs—she packed them all up to go!
All the shop owners were so busy their heads spun, but they couldn’t stop grinning.
With food almost fully stocked, cooking essentials and condiments were next on the list.
Soy sauce, table salt, dark soy sauce, oil, vinegar, peanut butter, honey, Sichuan peppercorns, chili, ginger, green onions, garlic, MSG, oyster sauce, fish sauce—3,000 jin of each.
Kitchenware: bowls, chopsticks, plates, sterilizers, rice cookers, kettles, induction cookers, refrigerators, juicers, ovens, microwaves, pressure cookers, air fryers—she bought 500 sets of each.
After food, the most lacking resource in the apocalypse was medicine.
Lin Xiaodou had wanted to buy directly from pharmaceutical factories, but that wasn’t an option.
She had no choice but to run around various cities, buying from pharmacy after pharmacy.
Antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, painkillers, traditional Chinese medicine—she stocked several years’ worth of each.
As for rarer items, she figured she’d go abroad later. Foreign regulations were more relaxed.
Next, she went to the largest wholesale market for daily necessities.
She bought out every single store from the first to the last.
“Boss Lin! The tissues, sanitary pads, toiletries, soap, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, slippers, clothes hangers—5,000 sets of each are ready!”
“Boss Lin! My side has your bedding ready too—bedsheets, duvet covers, fitted sheets, pillowcases, pillows, blankets, bamboo mats, mosquito nets, cotton quilts, silk quilts—5,000 sets of each!”
“And from my store, Boss Lin, all the cosmetics you asked for—face wash, toner, skincare sets—10,000 sets of each are packed and ready!”
“There are also baby products, hardware, various tools…”
Every shop owner held up their supply lists, shouting energetically.
Their eyes gleamed with excitement as they looked at Lin Xiaodou.
This was their god of wealth—they couldn’t afford to offend her!
