Chapter 26: Tang Ying Accuses Others to Cover Her Own Guilt
Tang Ying’s eyes widened in shock. She never expected Tang Mi to hit her in front of so many people.
“Eldest Sister…” Tang Ying looked at Tang Mi in disbelief, her expression full of grievance.
Tang Mi didn’t give her the chance to act pitiful and coldly snapped, “You pushed me into the water. I could have let that go. But you shouldn’t have tried to harm Feng’er under the water. If I hadn’t kicked you several times, both Feng’er and I would’ve died in that lotus pond today.”
As soon as Tang Mi said this, the crowd erupted in commotion.
“So the eldest Miss Tang means it was Tang Ying who pushed her into the water first?”
“What does she mean by attacking Tang Feng underwater? What exactly did Tang Ying do?”
“I saw her pressing down on Tang Feng’s shoulders. Feng was completely submerged and nearly drowned.”
“Oh my god, this Tang Ying is really scheming. She wanted to kill both siblings!”
“This Second Miss Tang is just as vicious as her younger sister, the Fourth Miss!”
Just moments ago, the crowd had sympathized with Tang Ying. Now, they despised her just as much.
Tang Ying’s face turned pale. She hadn’t expected Tang Mi to see through her scheme and expose it so publicly.
Tang Feng glanced at Tang Ying’s deathly pale face and, unable to bear it, softly said, “Forget it. Second Sister didn’t mean it. She was just too frightened.”
But his words only confirmed Tang Mi’s version of the story, suggesting Tang Ying truly had attacked him underwater.
Even those who had doubted Tang Mi’s words were now convinced.
Tang Ying’s face shifted from pale to dark as she turned red-eyed and protested, “I didn’t mean to grab Tang Feng! I was just too scared. It was unintentional! But you, Eldest Sister, you stomped on my stomach like you wanted me dead. Where was your sisterly love then?”
Hearing her aggrieved tone, some people in the crowd began to feel sympathy for her again.
To stomp someone like that… maybe Tang Mi was a bit too ruthless.
But Tang Mi didn’t bother to explain. She simply asked, “How many times did I kick you?”
Tang Ying wasn’t sure why she was asking but responded, “Over a dozen times.”
Tang Feng frowned upon hearing this. He instinctively wanted to speak up for his sister, knowing she didn’t kick that many times at most five or six and due to the resistance of the water, the force wouldn’t have been that strong. Second Sister was exaggerating.
Tang Mi didn’t explain to Tang Feng. She only turned her sharp gaze to Tang Ying and said, “I had to kick you over ten times before you let go, and you still claim it was unintentional? Are you that clever, or do you think we’re all fools?”
Tang Ying’s heart dropped. She’d fallen right into Tang Mi’s trap.
Sure enough, the crowd exploded again.
“Exactly! She had to be kicked so many times to let go, she clearly meant harm!”
“Thank goodness Tang Mi was smart. Otherwise, those siblings could’ve died today.”
“To think the Tang family rose thanks to the eldest branch, and now that General Tang is dead, they treat his children like this? Shameless!”
“Tang Mi should’ve kicked her harder!”
Hearing the crowd’s reactions, Tang Ying’s expression turned completely dark. She no longer pretended to be weak and glared angrily at Tang Mi. “I didn’t mean it! You dragged me into the water! Why are you slandering me? Am I that easy to bully?”
Tang Mi’s expression remained icy and harsh. She stared at Tang Ying and said, “When I fell into the water, I didn’t look back. Someone pushed me, and I instinctively grabbed her. So whoever fell in with me is clearly the one who pushed me.”
Gasps erupted again.
“So, whoever went in with Tang Mi must be the one who pushed her!”
“This Tang Ying is despicable, accusing others to cover her own guilt!”
“Exactly! She pushed her in and then claimed she was pulled in. Serves her right!”
“She’s reaping what she sowed. And Tang Feng even tried to help her? Those siblings are too kind!”
Tang Feng looked at Tang Ying in shock. “Second Sister, you…”
“I didn’t!” Tang Ying screamed, eyes brimming with tears as she glared at Tang Mi. “Why are you accusing me? I just wanted to help when I saw you falling. Instead of being grateful, you pulled me in and now you’re blaming me?”
“I won’t repeat myself. You know better than anyone what you did,” Tang Mi said coldly. “Heaven knows, you know, I know, and the one who should know, also knows.”
As she said that last part, she glanced meaningfully at Ye Junyu.
Ye Junyu stiffened. In that moment, he felt exposed and ashamed.
Tang Ying’s expression shifted as well. She suddenly realized Tang Mi might not be as stupid as she’d thought.
Tang Mi didn’t bother with her anymore. She simply turned to Tang Feng and said, “Let’s go.”
Without another word, she walked away.
Tang Feng immediately followed.
Tang Ning looked between Tang Ying and the departing Tang Mi. After a moment’s hesitation, she chased after Tang Mi.
Once Tang Mi was gone, Tang Ying looked up at Ye Junyu, only to see him staring fixedly at Tang Mi’s retreating figure, completely ignoring her.
Tang Ying gritted her teeth in jealous fury.
That shameless Tang Mi!
Qin Qingyu stepped forward. “Cousin, I believe you didn’t push Sister Mi.”
“Of course I didn’t!” Tang Ying snapped, glaring at Qin Qingyu before angrily storming off.
“Cousin…” Qin Qingyu quickly followed after her.
The farce finally came to an end. No one was in the mood to float lanterns anymore. Instead, they were all eagerly discussing what had just happened by the lotus pond.
“I think Tang Ying definitely pushed the eldest Miss Tang.”
“Same. If the fourth Miss Tang could frame her, why wouldn’t the second Miss push her?”
“Who would’ve thought someone who looks so gentle could be this vicious?”
…
Their plan had not only failed, but backfired spectacularly. Ye Junyu felt murderous rage bubbling inside him.
“Your Highness?” Feng Pan cautiously stepped forward.
Ye Junyu’s expression was dark and venomous. “Find out who sent that cloak.”
“Yes, sir,” Feng Pan replied immediately.
