Chapter 24
The next day, a video of Su Wen attempting to cook for the child and ending up blowing up the kitchen, followed by his incorrect way of handling the situation, was quickly uploaded online by fans who had been screen recording. It was then reposted by the official account of the North City Fire Department, which specifically criticized them and invited them to attend a fire safety drill over the weekend.
North City Fire Department: Kitchen disasters, this approach is not advisable. We hereby invite Su Wen and Qi Wu to visit our fire station for a face-to-face teaching session.
Before the audience could even start mocking, the North City Public Security Bureau posted another message.
North City Public Security Bureau: We would like to commend our citizens Su Wen and Qi Wu for their contributions to the city’s public security.
The Weibo post also included a statement image regarding the investigation into Zhang Yuan’s alleged intentional homicide and tax evasion.
#Su Wen Qi Wu Criticized by North City Fire Department#
#Su Wen Qi Wu Commended by North City Public Security Bureau#
#Su Wen Qi Wu Fallen Nobility#
The names Su Wen and Qi Wu stayed on Weibo’s hot search list for most of the day.
[Intentional homicide and tax evasion, my god, they’ve been quiet but now they’ve made a big splash! They’re even involved in a murder case?]
[So the paper effigy in the room was real, I got goosebumps, that’s terrifying.]
[Does anyone remember Little Qi Wu asking if Si Qing had a brother, and Si Qing said no?]
[And those little clothes… could it be?]
[If he really killed his own son, Zhang Yuan deserves to go to the eighteenth level of hell, is he even human!]
[I hope the police can give the public an explanation after the investigation, murderers deserve to die!]
[At this point, I don’t know whether to cry or laugh, you guys are really busy these days.]
[The first two people in history to be both criticized and commended at the same time, I’m dying of laughter hahaha]
[I apologize for my previous rudeness towards Su Wen and Qi Wu, I was wrong, Little Yan Wang.]
[I have to say, logically it should be the first time they’ve met, how did they know? Combined with the show’s supernatural label, I believe it.]
[What are we waiting for, let’s go worship together!]
A storm was brewing online, but Little Qi Wu and Su Wen were unaware of it. They had returned too late the previous night, and when Little Qi Wu woke up in the morning, she was still groggy, clinging to Judge Dad.
Su Wen, not very skilled, washed her face and, considering the drill scheduled for today, followed the show’s instructions to dress Little Yan Wang in overalls and a little yellow hat.
[Ahhh my baby looks so adorable in this outfit!]
[I really want to tug on her overalls, it must be so satisfying hahaha]
[While they’re still at the temple, let me just say Lord Yama’s Karma is immeasurable! Bless me with smooth sailing today!]
The fire department had scheduled an early time, so the father and daughter set off early, without even having time for breakfast. Su Wen steamed some instant breakfast items and packed them to eat in the car.
Once in the car, he slowly peeled a banana bun and fed it to Qi Wu. Little Qi Wu had slept late the night before, and although she managed to get up, she was still very sleepy.
She didn’t want to eat at first, but she couldn’t waste food. If children don’t eat buns, they won’t grow up, so she forced herself to eat the bun her dad gave her with half-closed eyes.
After she finished, Su Wen wiped her mouth and hands: “If you feel dry, drink some milk.”
“Okay.”
Although Little Qi Wu responded in this manner, her eyes were already almost closed. The car seat was too soft, and she couldn’t resist any longer.
She tilted her head and leaned against her dad, sucking on her bottle a few times. The nipple was still in her little mouth, but she had stopped moving.
After a while, Su Wen didn’t feel any movement and gently lifted her little hat to take a look. The Little King of Hell was sound asleep.
Considering she had slept little the night before, Su Wen decided to gently remove the nipple from her mouth. However, before he could even pull it halfway out, the Little King of Hell seemed to wake up suddenly, tightly biting onto the nipple and sucking fiercely, refusing to let go.
If it weren’t for her eyes remaining closed, Su Wen would have thought she had woken up.
【Heartwarming moment, so adorable!】
【Let her drink, let her sleep! I could watch this all day!】
Su Wen glanced down for a few seconds, a faint smile inadvertently appearing on his face. He didn’t try to take the bottle away again but instead reached out to hold her securely, preventing her from falling.
【Family, who captured a screenshot of my husband smiling!】
【Using your beauty to tempt me so early in the morning? I’m telling you it won’t work! Unless you do it a few more times!】
The driver had been watching the father and daughter pair through the rearview mirror. It was no wonder his wife and kids loved watching them—they were truly good-looking.
He couldn’t help but strike up a conversation softly: “You’re the father and daughter who are really popular online, right? My family loves watching you!”
Online meant the internet. Su Wen nodded slightly, seemingly casually covering the Little King of Hell’s ears with his hand: “Thank you.”
“Don’t mention it. Our society needs citizens like you with good morals,” the driver said with a smile. “To receive official praise from the police, you must be really outstanding.”
Su Wen was puzzled. He knew about the criticism—the production team had informed him.
But…
“Praise?”
The driver was surprised: “You didn’t know? You and your child were publicly praised on Weibo for your contributions to society. It’s really trending, and now a lot of people know about you.”
“Weibo? What’s that?”
The driver: “…”
【?】
【Stay calm, everyone. Isn’t it the first day you’ve known my husband is a caveman?】
The driver looked again at this exceptionally handsome young man. He didn’t seem like someone who wouldn’t understand the internet: “It’s a software that young people like to use. You can see a lot of real-time hot topics on it, and you can know about major events happening all over the country almost immediately.”
The driver was astonished: “You’ve never used it?”
Su Wen replied very calmly: “No.”
“Ah, well, everyone has their own preferences. It’s the same with Douyin and Kuaishou. These apps are quite similar,” the driver found a reason for him. “There are so many apps now, there’s bound to be one that suits you. It’s a fast-paced society after all.”
Su Wen appeared very calm on the surface, but he hadn’t understood most of the key terms. He made a mental note to look them up on Baidu later.
【I bet a pack of spicy strips that Su Wen didn’t understand what an app is.】
【I thought the same. Yesterday, I saw him and Kong Lin squatting on the ground studying a phone for over an hour, and I knew things weren’t simple.】
【Speaking of Kong Lin , where is he today? Why isn’t he here?】
【Isn’t he supposed to be a fallen noble? How could he not understand these things?】
【Just say he’s a transmigrator.】
When they arrived at the fire station, Su Wen moved his hand away from the Little King of Hell’s ear and softly called her: “Qi Wu.”
Little Qi Wu was particularly sensitive to sounds. Even though she was still very sleepy, she groggily opened her eyes: “Dad…”
Seeing the light reflecting on her face, Su Wen was momentarily stunned and instinctively raised his hand to shield her from the glaring light: “We’re here.”
“Okay.”
The driver quickly turned around and said apologetically, “Mr. Su, Little Qi Wu, my wife and child really like you. I was wondering if you could give me an autograph? I want to make them happy when I get back.”
Su Wen: “Autograph?”
Wang Yang, who was already familiar with the two, reminded him: “It’s just signing your names on a piece of paper, as a memento for those who like you.”
Little Qi Wu poked her head out from Judge Dad’s embrace, her sleepiness dissipating a lot: “They like us?”
That’s Karma!
“Yes,” the driver sighed. “My daughter is in her final year of high school now, and the pressure of studying is immense. She hasn’t slept well in a long time. My wife and I aren’t well-educated, so besides cooking for her, we can’t help much. We’re so worried that we can’t sleep either.”
“The other day, we happened to catch your live stream. My wife really liked it and even found some replays to watch with our daughter after school. They both enjoy listening to Little Qi Wu sing, and their sleep has improved a bit, and they’ve relaxed some.”
Although Little Qi Wu didn’t understand most of it, she roughly grasped that it meant they were unhappy, but hearing her voice made them feel better.
The driver rubbed his head: “I don’t know if the Temple of the King of Hell can bless my child with good health and smooth exams. If it can, I’d like to go and offer some incense.”
Su Wen: “It can.”
Rather than blessing health and exam success, it’s more about giving oneself comfort. This is the original purpose of worshiping Ghosts and Gods—a spiritual solace for people.
The driver said happily: “That’s great! I’ll go after my early shift! I hope my wife and daughter are both well.”
“I was wondering if the two of you could give me an autograph?”
Little Qi Wu looked up and saw the driver’s face—honest, kind, and blessed, with a faint glow around him.
In fact, everyone has their own light, which can be called their aura. In the eyes of Ghosts and Gods, it’s very clear. The aura of that bad dad had completely dissipated, but the aura of this dad in front of her was very strong.
It was what mortals called a blessed appearance.
He’s a good dad.
Little Qi Wu smiled faintly and nodded: “Sure.”
The autographs of Lord Yama and the Judge are much more effective than the Talismans of those Mystic Sect Disciples.
But Little Qi Wu said awkwardly: “Qi Wu can’t write.”
She only knows how to use the King of Hell Seal.
The driver said: “No problem, no problem. Just drawing a little pattern is fine.”
He hurriedly rummaged through the storage box in his car and pulled out a small notebook with a pen inside. Because he was so excited, his hands were shaking, and it took him a while to separate two sheets of paper. His hands, tanned and calloused from years of driving, were a bit dark.
He flipped open the notebook and found a blank page: “Can you sign here?”
“Oh right, I remember you can’t sign on blank paper, right? My memory is so bad.” He clicked the pen open. “Let me write a few words first.”
With that, he leaned on the steering wheel and wrote in crooked characters: “I hope Qing Qing is healthy and does well in her college entrance exams, and that my wife is also healthy and happy every day.—Zhou Dahai.”
After finishing, he turned around and handed the notebook to Su Wen: “Mr. Su, do you think this is okay?”
The notebook was already somewhat worn.
Su Wen’s gaze fell on the left page, where a date was written, but the handwriting was different.
“9.02: Dad is on the early shift, remember to eat breakfast, and be safe today.
Buy two pounds of pork ribs, scallions, ginger, and garlic (as usual), 20 eggs. Your back pain is acting up, come home early and buy some pain relief patches.”
Below was Zhou Dahai’s handwriting: “Milk helps with sleep, buy milk. My daughter’s desk lamp is broken (buy an eye-protecting lamp). My wife has been talking about the almond cookies from Zuo Family Lane for a long time, remember to buy them.”
The notebook was thick, clearly having been used for more than just a day or two.
The handwriting of three people, a family’s care for each other.
[I don’t know what to say, I feel like crying.]
[I miss my dad. My dad also drives a taxi. When I go back, I’ll give him a notebook like this.]
[I came to watch a variety show, not to cry, wuwu.]
[An ordinary family, but such great happiness.]
Noticing Su Wen’s gaze, Zhou Dahai felt a bit embarrassed: “This notebook was bought for me by my daughter. It’s been around for a long time. She writes something for me every day. I’m getting old, afraid I might forget some things, so I write them down here. Sometimes, looking at it, I don’t feel tired anymore.”
Little Qi Wu noticed that Judge Dad’s mood seemed to have changed, but it didn’t seem like he was unhappy. She looked around curiously: “Dad, aren’t we going to write?”
“We will.”
The Judge didn’t take the pen offered by the driver but instead took out his own pen.
He didn’t write his name but instead wrote a few words: “Wishing: Success in exams, smooth sailing, and family safety.”
After writing, he handed the pen to Little Qi Wu: “Qi Wu.”
Little Qi Wu couldn’t write, so she thought for a moment and drew the little stars she learned in kindergarten on top of Judge Dad’s words, drawing very carefully.
After finishing, she handed the notebook to the driver with both hands, saying in a childish voice: “You are a good dad.”
Then she took out some candies from her little backpack and handed them over: “Lord Yama will bless you.”
The driver gratefully accepted them: “Thank you, they will be very happy.”
[Did you notice the pen Su Wen took out? It’s so beautiful, I’ve never seen it before. Is the body made of jade?]
[I’m curious, does he carry such a pen with him? It looks like a brush, but not quite.]
[It seems like a soft brush.]
[His handwriting is so beautiful. The posture and stroke when writing definitely aren’t something you can achieve in just a day or two!]
[A fallen noble, tsk.]
The Judge’s Brush Su Wen took out naturally wasn’t what the audience saw; it was an illusion. He couldn’t casually write his and the King of Hell’s names among mortals, but giving blessings was fine.
After getting out of the car, Little Qi Wu still remembered how Judge Dad’s mood suddenly changed after looking at the notebook. She asked softly: “Dad, what was written on it?”
Su Wen bent down to adjust her little yellow hat that had tilted while she slept, paused for a few seconds, and said: “It wrote about their family’s affection and love.”
[How can he say it so well? Su Wen is so gentle at this moment, my goodness.]
[When a cold and handsome guy becomes gentle, ordinary people can’t handle it, wuwu.]
Little Qi Wu is the Incarnation of Great Love. Upon hearing about familial affection and love, she nodded in sudden realization, “So, that’s the love of a dad, right?”
“Mm-hmm.”
Little Qi Wu took Judge Dad’s hand and walked towards the fire station’s entrance, saying as they went, “So, every dad loves their child. That’s how it should be.”
Wang Yang was deeply moved. Instead of following them with the camera, he first focused the lens on the taxi that hadn’t left yet. The car window was still open, and the driver was smiling while talking on the phone and looking at an open notebook, appearing happy and content.
Wang Yang then shifted the camera to capture the backs of Su Wen and Qi Wu, hand in hand. Su Wen was tall, and Little Qi Wu had to tiptoe slightly to keep up, but Su Wen would lower his body a bit to make it easier for her. After walking a short distance, he stopped and picked her up.
Their demeanor was outstanding, a sight to behold.
[This cameraman’s framing is so professional! It feels like a cinematic shot.]
[This shot is absolutely stunning, it’s making me cry.]
[My mom asked me why I was crying and laughing at the same time. I just gave her a big bear hug, and she blushed for a while.]
[I suggest watching this on repeat.]
With the rapid development of the internet, every organization and unit keeps up with current events and trends online. The fire department is no exception. The North City Fire Department is often active under many trending topics, using the opportunity to promote fire safety knowledge.
Child-rearing reality shows are highly accepted by society, and since Su Wen and Little Qi Wu frequently trend, the fire department naturally comes across them often.
This time, after Su Wen “blew up” the kitchen, the fire department quickly seized the moment to promote fire safety.
The audience for child-rearing reality shows spans all age groups, so after last night’s incident, the fire department’s new media team held a meeting to report and take advantage of the opportunity to collaborate with the show for a special episode on fire safety education, which holds significant educational value.
The leadership naturally agreed, and the show’s production team was more than willing. Such collaboration opportunities are rare, even if Su Wen and Little Qi Wu were a bit of a cautionary example this time.
Both sides benefited, mutually leveraging the trend.
When Little Qi Wu and Su Wen arrived, the fire brigade had already prepared the drills and educational content. The firefighters stood in neat rows at the entrance, ready to present their most spirited side to the audience.
Little Qi Wu, holding onto Judge Dad’s neck, let out a soft “Huh?” when she saw the firefighters at the door.
Su Wen also paused slightly.
The fire captain stepped forward first, greeting them with a friendly smile, “Welcome to the North City Fire Brigade for our fire safety education session. I’m Cheng Donghan, the captain leading today’s drills.”
Su Wen, who previously wasn’t familiar with Human Realm etiquette, had learned a lot by now. He extended a hand to shake Cheng Donghan’s, “Hello, this is Qi Wu, and I’m Su Wen.”
As soon as he finished speaking, the other firefighters saluted in unison towards Su Wen, Qi Wu, and the show’s camera.
[Blue friends! My blue friends! So handsome!]
[Oh my, I have no resistance to men in uniform!]
[They’re so reassuring. After all the good deeds I’ve done, seeing them is what I deserve!]
Little Qi Wu unconsciously straightened her chest. She hesitated for a moment, then imitated the uncles by raising her small hand: “Hello, uncles, I am Qi Wu.”
Cheng Donghan said, “Hello, let’s go inside first.”
Little Qi Wu nodded gently, retracting her small hand to clutch her dad’s clothes, using the Mystic Seal to say, “Judge Dad, there are so many ghosts.”
Su Wen: “Hmm.”
In the eyes of Little Qi Wu and Su Wen, not only was there a row of firefighters standing in front of them, but behind them was also a neat line of ghosts, dressed in the same uniforms, with the same expressions and postures.
The ghostly aura was heavy, but it was overshadowed by the spiritual energy that filled the place.
Little Qi Wu asked, “Should we call Black and White Impermanence to take them away?”
Su Wen paused slightly, glancing at the group of ghosts who were also approaching the fire station. His handsome brows furrowed, and after a moment, he said, “No rush.”
Their obsessions were too strong, and they were protected by the spiritual energy here.
After entering the fire station, Cheng Donghan first took Qi Wu and Su Wen to the knowledge promotion area. Little Qi Wu walked on her own, looking at the pictures on the promotional boards. Although the team members had been very polite to them at first, they suddenly became serious now.
Especially Cheng Donghan, who looked quite fierce when he wasn’t smiling.
Cheng Donghan walked to one of the boards, turned around, and looked at the pair: “Mr. Su, Little Qi Wu, these are the mistakes you made in the kitchen yesterday.”
Su Wen: “…”
Little Qi Wu: “Huh?”
Cheng Donghan, holding a small wooden Staff, pointed at the life safety pictures on the board: “Look, when using a microwave in the kitchen, you shouldn’t put items that shouldn’t be heated inside. You put all of them in the microwave.”
Su Wen: “…”
Cheng Donghan: “Also, when a fire breaks out, you shouldn’t stand there in a daze, letting the fire spread, and even allowing a child to run into the kitchen. When the fire grows, you definitely shouldn’t try to handle it directly. That’s very dangerous. You were just lucky yesterday. This is a complete negative example for the entire nation!”
Su Wen: “…”
Little Qi Wu was startled by the stern expression of the uncle in front of her, especially with the rows of ghost firefighters standing behind him, shaking their heads in disapproval: “Tsk tsk tsk, so dangerous. What if it caused secondary harm? You really weren’t careful!”
“You’re so handsome and cute. If you got hurt, especially your face, wouldn’t that be such a pity!”
“You’re really not doing a great job as a dad. We need to educate you properly.”
Cheng Donghan asked seriously, “Do you know what you did wrong?”
Little Qi Wu immediately straightened up, hands clasped behind her back, and obediently said, “Yes, we did.”
Su Wen’s temple twitched slightly, and his fingers moved, but he had no choice but to nod, “Yes, we did.”
Only then did Cheng Donghan seem satisfied, “It’s good that you know you were wrong. You must change in the future! Come, let me teach you how to handle such emergencies correctly.”
[Hahaha, I’m dying of laughter. This is the first time I’ve seen Su Wen being lectured.]
[He’s really handsome, but this is also really funny.]
[Su Wen: This life is really short. I’ll pay more attention in the next one.]
[This big and small pair being scolded is just too adorable!]
Su Wen, holding the Little King of Hell’s hand, listened to the lecture while his Divine Soul seemed to drift away. As the Judge, the head of the Three Bureaus, this was the first time in thousands of years that he had been lectured like this.
Even the past Ten Kings of Hell, or even the Beiyin Fengdu Emperor, had never spoken to him like this.
He thought expressionlessly, if only he had kept Kong Lin here today to take care of the Little King of Hell.
Suddenly, his fingers were tugged. Little Qi Wu looked up at him disapprovingly, “Dad, the teacher said we should pay attention during the lecture.”
Su Wen: “…Alright.”
Cheng Donghan immediately turned around, “What! You were zoning out?!”
Su Wen’s eyelid twitched slightly, “No.”
Cheng Donghan: “Then what did I just say?”
Su Wen paused for a moment, then repeated word for word, “In public places like the Temple of the King of Hell, fire extinguishers should be prepared. In case of a fire…”
Cheng Donghan was slightly surprised. His memory was really good.
[I can’t stop laughing, folks. Usually, he seems like a mute, but now his silence has become the best comedic effect.]
[The weird contrast is just too amusing.]
[Little Qi Wu is a real one. She dares to scold her dad for zoning out.]
Little Qi Wu clapped for her Judge Dad, who had performed so well, “Dad, you’re amazing! You remembered everything!”
Su Wen: “…Thank you.”
He didn’t really want this kind of encouragement, thank you.
At this moment, the ghost firefighters standing behind Captain Cheng Donghan, thinking that these two couldn’t see them, gathered around to comfort them, “Don’t feel embarrassed. This kind of opportunity is rare. Listen carefully, it will be useful in the future! Your child will be much safer.”
“Look, how dangerous was your situation yesterday? Did you remember the fire department’s number? In case of danger, you should call 119!”
“We will always protect your safety!”
Su Wen sighed softly: Being lectured by ghosts. He, the Judge, was now surrounded by a group of ghosts chattering away, and he couldn’t even argue back.
A first in history.
“Alright,” Cheng Donghan clapped his hands after finishing the fire safety talk, addressing the camera and Su Wen and his daughter, “These are just some basic daily fire safety tips. If you want to know more, you can follow our Weibo, Douyin, and Kuaishou accounts. We regularly post fire safety videos on these platforms. Welcome to watch.”
Little Qi Wu knew that today was for learning, so she had been very attentive, asking questions whenever she didn’t understand. She stood on her tiptoes and raised her hand: “Uncle Cheng! What are those?”
“Huh?” Cheng Donghan was momentarily stunned. “Don’t you usually use these apps?”
Little Qi Wu shook her head.
Cheng Donghan then looked up at Su Wen, who also shook his head.
Only then did he remember that yesterday, while the team was watching a live stream, they had commented on how the father and daughter seemed like they had never used a phone before, squatting there and studying the phone’s functions for a long time.
Cheng Donghan suddenly realized: “Oh, that’s fine. We’ll teach you how to download them later. For now, let’s head to the field for the drill.”
The tools prepared on the field were some common household appliances. Since Little Qi Wu was still young, for safety reasons, she wasn’t allowed to get close. Only Su Wen was allowed to participate.
Some team members stayed by Little Qi Wu’s side, explaining to her what was happening.
Around Little Qi Wu, there were two voices: one from the human firefighters and the other from the ghost firefighters. She didn’t know whom to listen to.
Meanwhile, Su Wen stood in the center of the field, tall and long-legged. Whatever Cheng Donghan said, he understood at a glance and executed it flawlessly.
[Ah, I’m such a sucker for looks. Why does a man look so handsome even when holding a fire extinguisher?]
[The way you put out the fire with such a straight face really hits my kink, Su Wen.]
[So that’s how you use a fire extinguisher. I always thought it was just for show.]
Little Qi Wu propped her chin on her hands, watching Judge Dad in the middle of the field.
In the Underworld, the ghosts were all afraid of Judge Dad, thinking he was fierce and unreasonable. But she truly believed Judge Dad was kind. Right now, although he wasn’t smiling, he didn’t seem as unhappy as before.
She couldn’t quite put her finger on what had changed about Judge Dad, but compared to Uncle Cheng Donghan beside him, she felt that Judge Dad seemed more like a human now.
This feeling had also occurred when Judge Dad looked at the driver’s notebook in the taxi.
Judge Dad wasn’t as fierce and unreasonable as the ghosts said.
Little Qi Wu was deep in thought when a sudden, urgent ringing sound startled her. She widened her eyes and looked in the direction of the noise.
At the same time, the group of people and ghosts beside her seemed to hear some command, standing up in unison and rushing in the same direction.
Little Qi Wu was so frightened by the scene that she stood there, unsure of what to do.
Finally, a firefighter picked her up and ran towards the center of the field, while a ghost firefighter nervously followed her: “Kid, go find your dad!”
“We have a mission,” Cheng Donghan quickly said to Su Wen. “Sorry, we have to leave immediately. Please wait, the duty officer will come to find you.”
With that, he eagerly blew his whistle, running and shouting sternly: “All members of the Fourth Squadron, assemble immediately!”
His voice was deep and resonant, echoing across the entire field.
At that moment, the bewildered Little Qi Wu was carried to Su Wen’s side, and Su Wen immediately took her: “Thank you.”
The firefighter who had carried Little Qi Wu over ran while saying, “No problem, the kid is adorable!”
He was also adjusting his uniform.
“Dad,” Little Qi Wu was also affected by the emotions of all the firefighters. “What’s happening?”
Su Wen stood in the suddenly empty playground, holding her, listening to the piercing fire alarm, and frowned slightly, saying in a deep voice, “There’s danger somewhere.”
Little Qi Wu asked worriedly, “Are the uncles going to protect everyone?”
Su Wen nodded, “Yes.”
【First time seeing the fire brigade on a mission, are they always this fast?】
【Why does my heart suddenly feel tight?】
【Watching this brings tears to my eyes, thank you, blue friends.】
【I saw the news! There’s a fire at a commercial building on Maple Forest Avenue!】
From the assembly to the fire trucks leaving the fire station, the entire process was astonishingly swift.
Both the live stream and the scene were still in shock, with some comments not even being sent out.
The on-duty firefighter from the fire station came over and took Su Wen and Little Qi Wu, “Sorry, we often have these emergencies, hope you understand.”
Su Wen: “Hard work.”
“Serving the people,” the firefighter led them out, “The timing is unfortunate, let’s take you back first.”
“Trouble you.”
Little Qi Wu was still immersed in the tense emotions of the firefighters, her small hand covering her rapidly beating chest, the smile on her little face gone.
The atmosphere was heavy for a moment, as they passed a bulletin board by the playground, she seemed to sense something and suddenly looked up.
Sitting next to the bulletin board was a ghost with a face full of scars, his clothes burned beyond recognition.
“Faster,” the ghost looked in the direction where the fire trucks had disappeared, gasping and shouting, “Faster.”
Looking down, one of his legs was charred black, a shocking sight.
Little Qi Wu’s eyes inexplicably welled up with tears.
Su Wen also stopped in his tracks, the firefighter leading them away turned back, “What’s wrong?”
The ghost kept muttering “Faster,” and above his head on the bulletin board were many photos.
Little Qi Wu looked at each one, they were the ghosts who had been by her side, educating and instructing her and Judge Dad.
But some of the ghosts’ faces were no longer clear, in the photos they were clean, with bright smiles, but the moment they received their mission, their faces began to blur.
Little Qi Wu and Su Wen looked at the photos without speaking, the on-duty officer followed their gaze to the photos, choked up for a while, then softly said, “These are, from our last mission…”
He paused before finishing, “They are our fallen comrades.”
The comments suddenly fell silent.
Little Qi Wu, holding Judge Dad, remembered the ghosts who had left earlier.
They seemed to have done it a thousand times, hearing the alarm and running without hesitation, getting on the truck, even though they were already ghosts.
And now, the ghost sitting under the bulletin board, his features no longer recognizable, his gaze still distant, his voice trembling, “Faster, faster, I can save one more.”
