Qin Luyuan seemed to only listen to Song Suisui. Even when the police came to take his statement, he refused to cooperate.
It wasn’t until Song Suisui coaxed him that he finally spoke.
Though he opened up, he didn’t say much. Still, he answered all the necessary questions.
After learning his home address and his parents’ names, the police station immediately made a call.
Holding little Luyuan in her arms, Song Suisui was also quite surprised. She could tell that Luyuan came from a well-off family, but she hadn’t expected it to be this well-off.
His home was in the municipal government residential compound of Xinghai City, and his father was none other than the newly appointed Municipal Party Secretary.
Tsk tsk… who knew I’d saved the child of a high-ranking official?
Though amazed, Song Suisui didn’t feel the slightest urge to ingratiate herself.
Anyone who could rise to such a political position in a city had to be shrewd and calculating. And dealing with such people was what she dreaded most.
Interacting with politicians meant every word had to be carefully weighed, or else you’d fall into their verbal traps.
That kind of interaction was just too exhausting.
So when Qin Luyuan’s family arrived at the police station in full force, Song Suisui took advantage of their attention being entirely on the boy and slipped away.
Her statement was already done, after all. If not for Luyuan clinging to her and refusing to let go, she would’ve left long ago.
Wearing wet clothes, she wasn’t exactly comfortable either.
Unbeknownst to her, someone had noticed her quietly slipping away.
As Song Suisui stepped out of the police station, the night wind hit her, sending a shiver down her spine.
She was about to jog home when a captivating voice called out, “Wait a moment.”
She turned and saw a strikingly handsome young man stopping her.
Song Suisui found him somewhat familiar—had she seen his face somewhere before?
Though she was a self-proclaimed lover of beauty and a sucker for nice voices, if someone didn’t leave an impression on her, no matter how handsome they were, she’d only appreciate them in the moment and then promptly forget them.
“Can I help you?” Song Suisui asked.
“It’s late. It’s not safe for a girl to go back alone. Why don’t you wait a little longer?”
“No need. My home isn’t far. I’d rather go back by myself. Goodbye!”
Qin Mulin noticed the fleeting look of confusion in Song Suisui’s eyes and couldn’t help but feel amused.
So, she had forgotten him.
Still, he couldn’t let her leave just yet. Otherwise, his elder brother and sister-in-law would be frantic.
“Miss Song, don’t rush off. You saved Luyuan—our family owes you thanks.”
Song Suisui was speechless. She’d snuck away precisely to avoid this kind of hassle.
Accepting gratitude from a Municipal Party Secretary? She was afraid it might bring her bad luck later.
After all, in this era, anything could happen.
“No need, it was just a small favor.”
She turned to leave again, but Qin Mulin wouldn’t let her go so easily. He stepped forward and grabbed her wrist.
“Sorry for the rudeness, but you really can’t leave yet.”
Song Suisui stared at him, exasperated. With such a handsome face, how come he doesn’t understand human language?
“Sister Suisui! Sister Suisui!”
At that moment, Qin Luyuan came running out, wailing loudly. He threw himself at Song Suisui’s legs, trying to climb up into her arms.
Song Suisui’s heart softened at the sight of his tear-streaked, reddened face. She picked him up and gently soothed him.
“Don’t cry, don’t cry. You’ve found your mom and dad—why are you still crying?”
Qin Mulin was taken aback by how attached his nephew was to her.
After all, this little boy wasn’t even close to his own parents. That Song Suisui could make him cling to her like this was nothing short of astonishing!
Then again, it might just be a case of imprinting—after such a frightening ordeal, it was only natural for the child to seek comfort from the person who saved him.
