Hearing this, Qin Tianru felt relieved. It was good that they weren’t being chased—with her slender arms and legs, she was hardly a match in a fight.
She then glanced at the small leaf-wrapped bundle in Qi Han’s hand and earnestly advised him, “I still have food here. You don’t need to go through the trouble of foraging. Be careful with your wound.”
“I’m fine. The wound wasn’t affected. We still have a long journey ahead of us, so we should save what we can,” Qi Han replied, looking slightly embarrassed.
He had been robbed clean by the thieves, left without a single coin to his name. In his past life, he had relied entirely on the kindness of strangers for food along the way, barely making it to the county town. There, he had contacted a friend and borrowed money for the fare back to the provincial capital.
This time, his physical condition was much better. Though he couldn’t hunt wild game, he could at least gather some wild fruits to stave off hunger.
As for the food in her storage space, it was limited. He couldn’t bring himself to deplete her rations. So, he planned to make do with wild fruits himself.
The food in her space should be reserved for her.
Back in his past life, no matter how difficult things had been, he had managed to endure. As a grown man, eating less wouldn’t hurt him. But a delicate girl like her—how could she hold up if she didn’t eat her fill?
With that, the two of them reentered the cave and sat down on the makeshift bedding.
“Did you bring any toiletries? I washed up briefly at a nearby stream, but I didn’t have a container to bring water back for you,” Qi Han explained as he unwrapped the leaf bundle.
“It’s fine. I brought my own. You should eat breakfast first.”
Qin Tianru efficiently retrieved two boxes of milk and three coconut bread rolls from her storage space, placing them on the dried grass.
Then, she grabbed her toiletries and headed to the cave entrance.
She usually kept backups of personal items like these. As for bottled water, she still had more than half a box left—leftovers she had casually stored away earlier.
By the time Qin Tianru finished washing up and returned, she noticed that the bread and milk she had left on the grass remained untouched.
“Why aren’t you eating?”
“I’ve already eaten,” Qi Han replied calmly.
“Huh?”
Qin Tianru blinked in confusion, struggling to process his words. What did he mean, he’d already eaten? The milk and bread were clearly still there.
Then, her gaze landed on a few fruit pits near his feet, and realization struck.
Annoyance flared in her. “So, by ‘already eaten,’ you mean you had a few wild fruits? What’s the meaning of this? You’d rather eat wild fruits than have milk and bread? How is that enough?”
She couldn’t understand his reasoning. Wasn’t the milk and bread she’d taken out tasty? No matter what, they had to be more satisfying than wild fruits.
Yet this man would rather munch on a few sour berries than touch the food she’d provided. What was his deal?
Just last night, he’d accepted her bread and milk without issue.
Why was he being picky now?
Suddenly, a thought occurred to her. “Are you worried that I don’t have enough food, so you’re saving it for me?”
That had to be it. She couldn’t think of any other reason why someone would choose wild fruits over soft, sweet bread and milk.
Qi Han remained silent.
Understanding the reason, Qin Tianru’s irritation faded. This foolish man—so stubborn.
She sat down beside him, picked up the bread and milk, and firmly shoved them into his hands.
“Take them. No refusing!”
