Chapter 10: Why Does No One Believe the Truth?

“Are your injuries serious? I have some medicine…”

Turning around, Jiang Yu saw Yang Ergou covered in blood and was startled, quickly rummaging through her spatial pocket.

She remembered she had collected quite a bit of medicine from the Japanese soldiers earlier.

“No need. Now that the Japanese soldiers are gone, I’ll send two people to escort you away quickly! It’s too dangerous around here.”

Yang Ergou roughly tore a corner of his clothes and tied up his still-bleeding wounds.

Leaving two people behind to protect Jiang Yu, he prepared to lead the others toward Niu’er Village.

Though still worried about Jiang Yu’s safety, they had a mission to complete, and this was the best he could do.

“Wait! When you said ‘movements,’ do you mean the Japanese soldiers coming and going frequently today?”

“Yes! Do you know something?” Yang Ergou stopped in his tracks.

Earlier, they had enough ammo and fought fiercely,

but everyone got wounded in the process, and now, with this new mission, they were all barely holding on.

If Jiang Yu could provide any clues, it would be a big help.

“Well… if by ‘movements’ you mean this, then yes, I do know…”

“Really? That’s great! Hurry, tell me everything…” Yang Ergou didn’t doubt her since he saw the two of them come out from Niu’er Village.

“There’s no rush! You should treat your wounds first. The Japanese soldiers must be going crazy now.

If you want to leave later, you can’t go like this.”

After her invisibility skill cooldown ended, Jiang Yu could travel alone fine, but with so many people, it would be troublesome.

“Going crazy? Why?”

“Because I emptied their warehouse and the recently delivered weapons and ammo.”

“What? You… you say ‘emptied’? How did you move it all by yourself?”

“Just like this!”

Finally finding the medicine, Jiang Yu pulled out a bunch of medical supplies and bandages from her spatial pocket.

Since stomach growls occasionally echoed in the cave, she also took out the burnt rice she had cooked and the food she’d collected from the Japanese kitchen, offering it to everyone.

Instantly!

The aroma of the meal spread out.

The cave was filled with the sound of swallowing and salivation.

There was no helping it—since the supply line at Jurong was cut off by the Japanese,

they hadn’t had a full meal in a long time.

Especially on this mission, they hadn’t brought any dry food and had barely eaten in almost two days.

Though hungry, their attention wasn’t on the food—they were stunned by Jiang Yu.

They had thought Jiang Yu’s ability to conjure things was some sort of illusion or trick, especially since it got dark outside, creating a fake illusion of things appearing out of thin air.

But now, seeing several large steaming pots on the ground,

this wasn’t something ordinary illusions could produce.

Especially Yang Ergou, who was certain that when he dragged Jiang Yu in earlier, she was not carrying all this stuff, let alone several pots of hot food.

So… Yang Ergou looked at Jiang Yu in disbelief, intending to ask what kind of trick she used to do something so miraculous.

But considering that people like her—hidden masters—usually dislike too much questioning,

he carefully changed his words: “…You really emptied the Japanese soldiers’ warehouse?”

“Of course! Including the weapons and ammo they just received today, even a tank. Otherwise, why would they be making such a fuss?”

Seeing their disbelief, Jiang Yu suddenly realized:

The calm attitude everyone showed last night, without pressing for details,

was because they thought she was some kind of con artist.

Seriously!

She stopped hiding it now—why did they still look so incredulous?

“Also… a tank?” Yang Ergou suddenly caught the key point.

“Yeah! Too bad this cave is too small, or I could take it out for you to see right now.”

“No, no need. We believe you.”

Enough!

The little girl’s skills are real, the weapons in her hands are real, and it might be true she raided the Japanese base.

But a tank…

Ah! Kids really can’t even bluff properly. A tank—something a little girl could actually handle?

Everyone eating from their bowls silently chose not to expose Jiang Yu’s obvious exaggeration,

and Jiang Yu didn’t notice this at all, still urging: “Alright, you all hurry up and eat…”

“Wait! Are you really willing to give us all the stuff you took from the Japanese?”

“Of course! I’m scared to death—I wouldn’t dare go head-on with the Japanese soldiers. If I don’t give the weapons to you guys, then who?”

“Haha! Little girl, you’re too modest. But it’s true, you’re young and tough—going head-on with the Japanese isn’t worth it.

This kind of fight is better left to us rough guys…”

As long as she’s willing to share the guns, little kids blowing smoke isn’t a big deal.

Even if she said she could pluck stars and the moon from the sky, he’d help her blow that story up too.

Yang Ergou understood this very well!

Jiang Yu thought everyone finally believed her, so after quickly doing some basic bandaging with Liang Mengwen,

she wanted to split from Yang Ergou and the others.

Unfortunately, they held her tightly, citing safety concerns.

Even when she said she would join them later at the 66th Army base, they wouldn’t let her go.

Luckily, except near Niu’er Village where the Japanese soldiers were more numerous, the rest of the path—mostly through forest and familiar routes—was easier than before when she traveled with Liang Mengwen.

But just as they were crossing a big road, preparing to climb the mountain on the other side,

two Japanese fighter planes suddenly flew overhead.

At the same time, a series of shells rained down along the winding mountain road.

Before Jiang Yu could react, Yang Ergou and another soldier pushed her down.

“Boom boom boom…”

The huge explosions detonated right beside their ears.

Jiang Yu felt a ringing “buzz” in her ears and then suddenly lost all hearing.

Hot blood flowed from her ears.

Damn it!

Did they just get caught by the Japanese right after leaving the forest?

As the shells continued falling nearby, although Jiang Yu couldn’t hear, she clearly felt the tremors from the blasts.

She had never felt death so close—yet could do nothing about it.

Thankfully,

the Japanese planes were short-ranged fighters who probably just happened to spot their group on the road,

dropped a few bombs, and then left.

Before Jiang Yu’s hearing could recover, Yang Ergou grabbed her and rushed across the road into the forest on the opposite side.

“Hey! I’m talking to you, can you hear me?”

“What? I can’t hear!”

“I’m saying you all hide here first. It’s unsafe outside now. We’ll scout ahead and arrange for someone to escort you out if possible…”

Yang Ergou dragged Jiang Yu through twists and turns until they reached a cave.

Hearing Jiang Yu suddenly raise her voice, he immediately guessed something was wrong and turned to say to Liang Mengwen:

“What exactly are you saying? Why aren’t you moving? The Japanese planes are out, and they’re definitely attacking Jurong. We should hurry…”

“Boom boom boom…”

Suddenly!

Before Jiang Yu finished speaking, another series of explosions came from the other side of the mountain.

Several shells even flew over the ridge, exploding near them.

Luckily, everyone reacted quickly and hid inside the cave immediately.

“This is bad! We probably can’t leave for now…”

“Why?”

Jiang Yu, whose hearing had returned thanks to the explosions, grew anxious.

This barrage was different from the earlier bombs dropped by planes.

It was so dense it seemed like they wanted to level this whole mountain right where they were.

How could they stay here any longer?
