Chapter 29: If Anyone Dares Hurt You, Sister Will Fight Them to the Death
Tang Mi tightly hugged Tang Feng. “I’m so happy you feel this way. Our Feng’er has grown up and knows how to protect his sister now.”
Hearing Tang Mi’s words, Tang Feng’s eyes grew even redder, and his fists clenched tightly. “Why did they treat you like that?”
Scalding tears dropped onto the back of Tang Mi’s hand, but they warmed her heart.
“Men don’t cry easily,” Tang Mi gently wiped his tears. “Tang Rong didn’t succeed. I managed to escape.”
Tang Feng instantly stopped crying and looked at Tang Mi with surprise.
“But I was the one who pushed her in.” Before Tang Feng could respond, Tang Mi changed the subject abruptly.
Tang Feng was stunned, staring at Tang Mi in disbelief. “Why?”
“Why?” Tang Mi was hurt by his reaction. Even when facing Tang Feng, her defenses went up immediately. “If they can plot against me, then I can make them suffer the consequences!”
Tang Feng frowned, suddenly feeling like he didn’t know her. After a moment of hesitation, he stammered, “Maybe… Fourth Sister was just confused for a moment…”
Before he could finish, Tang Mi sneered, “Tang Ying pushing me into the water was an accident? Tang Rong trying to harm me was just confusion? Are you excusing them or comforting yourself?”
Tang Feng was at a loss for words after being sharply rebuked by Tang Mi.
Seeing his helpless look, Tang Mi softened and gently said, “Do you really believe that when Tang Ying pushed you underwater, it was unintentional?”
Previously, Tang Feng had never thought Tang Ying would harm him, but after hearing Tang Mi’s words, he started to have doubts. Still, he didn’t want to believe it. “Maybe… maybe she was just scared.”
Tang Mi raised her brows, not agreeing but not arguing either. “Even if she didn’t intend to hurt you, the fact remains that she held you under the water. Even if she had no intention to kill, she clearly doesn’t care for you the way she acts like she does. If it were me, I’d rather drown myself than use you as a stepping stone.”
Her resolute words struck deep in Tang Feng’s heart.
He trusted his sister completely.
Although she was strict with him, she truly treated him as family. In a way, he was like a child to her. Her guidance and protection were no different from that of a parent.
She would never harm him, never step on him to climb higher like Tang Ying did.
Seeing he was finally understanding, Tang Mi pressed on. “Feng’er, the people from Fourth Sister’s branch are not as simple as we thought. If they hadn’t hurt me like that, I’d still treat them as the closest family. But after scheming against me again and again, if I don’t fight back, they’ll only go further. If they can hurt me, they can hurt you too. I’ve already lost our parents. I can’t lose you.”
“Big sister…” Tang Feng’s eyes reddened again, his voice choked with emotion.
He couldn’t imagine they would go so far. Weren’t they all family? Why did they do this?
Right now, Tang Feng looked like a lost child, and Tang Mi felt her heart ache for him. She gently hugged him. “I’m sorry, Feng’er. I shouldn’t have made you face such a harsh truth. But if I shield you too much, it’ll only hurt you in the long run.”
Now that she had another chance at life, she wouldn’t let him be deceived by false familial love and end up harmed like before.
Feeling her warmth, Tang Feng unconsciously hugged her back.
Sensing his response, Tang Mi smiled, her gaze firm. “And I won’t let anyone bully you. If anyone dares to hurt you, I’ll fight them with my life!”
In this life, he was the most important person to her. She would never let the past repeat itself.
Tang Mi’s words completely warmed Tang Feng’s heart. His handsome face turned slightly red as he muttered, “I should be the one protecting you.”
He had grown up, grown enough to protect her.
Tang Mi raised her eyebrows noncommittally and patted his head. “Then it’s settled. You’ll protect me from now on.”
“I’ll protect you!” Tang Feng nodded solemnly.
He wouldn’t let anyone harm her again. He would protect her.
“Old Madam,” came Fang Yan’s voice from outside.
“Are the eldest young lady and third young master both here?” asked the Old Madam Tang, glancing at Ban Xia.
Ban Xia quickly bowed. “The eldest young lady was worried the third young master wouldn’t drink his ginger soup, so she came personally.”
The old lady was surprised. She had come for the same reason, worried about Feng’er. She hadn’t expected that Mi’er would think of it too. It seemed she had truly changed.
Lifting the curtain, the old lady entered the room.
“Grandmother,” the siblings stood up and bowed.
Holding one in each hand, the old lady looked at them with concern. “Aside from falling into the water, are you two hurt anywhere else?”
“Don’t worry, Feng’er and I are fine,” Tang Mi quickly replied to ease her worries.
“That’s good.” The old lady nodded, lovingly patting Tang Feng’s head. “Did you drink the ginger soup?”
“I drank a whole bowl.” Facing his grandmother, Tang Feng showed a childlike side.
She chuckled and tapped his forehead. “You’re only obedient when your sister’s involved.”
Tang Feng sneaked a glance at Tang Mi and immediately blushed.
Tang Mi looked at the old lady. “Grandmother, Feng’er is tired from the incident. Why not let him rest early tonight?”
“Alright.” The old lady patted Tang Feng’s shoulder. “Okay, rest now. Let your sister escort me back.”
“Mm.” Tang Feng saw them to the door.
Tang Mi supported the old lady toward Mingchun Garden.
Once there, the old lady dismissed everyone, then looked at Tang Mi apologetically. “Your aunt and third aunt told me what happened. Was it really Fourth Girl who pushed you into the water?”
Tang Mi didn’t expect even the old lady to doubt her. After a long silence, she looked up and asked, “Grandmother thinks I’d falsely accuse her?”
“You wouldn’t.” The old lady answered without hesitation. Seeing Tang Mi’s expression soften slightly, she cautiously added, “But maybe you misunderstood her? Maybe she was really trying to pull you up.”
Tang Mi narrowed her eyes. “You’ve seen her already?”
The old lady nodded. “She said you misunderstood. She didn’t push you, she was reaching to pull you up.”
Tang Mi laughed bitterly. “So Grandmother believes her.”
The old lady’s eyes flickered. She sighed softly. “She’s sick… and it’s her time of the month. This might leave a lasting illness.”
Hearing the old lady’s somewhat reproachful tone, Tang Mi felt a chill in her heart.
Just because she’s sick, and might be left with a lasting condition, she gets away with everything?
So Grandmother didn’t just love her alone.
Tang Mi took a deep breath and suddenly asked, “Does Grandmother know why Tang Ying pushed me into the water today?”
