Jin Zhao slammed on the brakes, almost hitting the steering wheel.
“Don’t talk nonsense,” Jin Zhao nearly spat out blood. “Say another scary thing like that, and you’re getting out, taking the 11 bus.”
“What’s the 11 bus? The subway?” Gu Jue looked innocent.
Jin Zhao couldn’t imagine such a foolish friend belonging to someone as intelligent as Wei Ting. Did he buy Cheng Wang, that devil, and get a pure-hearted child as a bonus?
That’s pretty evil.
“Two legs… haven’t you heard of it?”
“That’s what it means?” Gu Jue was surprised. “You don’t like others being the best. The previous Jin Zhao was obsessed with Lu Sichen, even though he’s far inferior to Third Brother. I don’t know what you were thinking.”
Gu Jue kept chattering.
“Third Brother lives and works alone. It’s nice to have someone to play and fight with him. Besides, you marrying Third Brother means more money and less trouble. Most importantly, Third Brother definitely won’t cheat; he just loves his work a little too much.”
“He’s a neat freak, so of course he won’t cheat,” Jin Zhao agreed.
Needless to say, she also thought Wei Ting was the perfect husband: quiet, rich, and she didn’t have to worry about him messing around outside and getting sick. He was the best choice for an arranged marriage.
As long as she didn’t end up in a mental hospital, living with Wei Ting for a lifetime would be great.
She parked her car at the entrance and gave it to the attendant to park. Gu Jue invited her to go upstairs.
“There are private rooms upstairs, it’s quieter.”
Jin Zhao shook her head, “I want to sit in the hall; the air is better.”
Actually, there was a plot point in this auction. As a tool to highlight the preciousness of the male and female leads’ love, she had to sit in the hall and cause trouble.
It was all Lu Sichen’s fault for not having a position worthy of a private room, which also meant she couldn’t sit there.
If she were in a private room, there wouldn’t be the same sense of conflict and verbal sparring.
As soon as she sat down, Lu Sichen walked in with Su Yi, insisting on sitting in front of her, as if afraid she wouldn’t be jealous and cause trouble.
The items at the beginning were boring until a string of crystal-clear white jade bracelets went up for auction, and Jin Zhao perked up.
The reason she remembered this so clearly was because it was a key plot point in the original story.
In the original plot, after she repeatedly raised the price, the male lead followed suit because the female lead liked it.
In the end, the vicious female supporting character left angrily after the male lead said, “Only my Yiyi deserves such pure color. Everyone else is filthy and insults this bracelet.”
The male lead, with the bracelet he had bought at a high price, did some unspeakable things with the female lead that night.
Because this bed scene was eye-opening for Jin Zhao, who had never been in a relationship, she remembered the bracelet vividly.
But she wouldn’t want it. Remembering that plot made the bracelet seem strange…
“Starting bid, 500,000.”
Jin Zhao finally understood her role. 500,000 couldn’t reflect the male lead’s importance to the female lead; she, the tool, needed to raise the price for love.
And she had been unhappy with this couple for a long time.
“1 million,” Jin Zhao lazily raised her bidding card.
“Sichen, I don’t want this anymore; it’s too expensive…” Su Yi said softly, trying to stop Lu Sichen.
“1.5 million.”
Lu Sichen was at the peak of his career and couldn’t wait to show off his domineering CEO demeanor. “1.5 million is nothing. As long as Yiyi likes it, I wouldn’t even blink at 5 million.”
Jin Zhao heard every word. Fine, she’d play along.
Spoiling you two a little~
Jin Zhao raised her hand and shouted without hesitation, “5 million.”
The price had already far exceeded the bracelet’s value. Jin Zhao remembered it had sold for just over 3 million in the original book.
Lu Sichen angrily turned to Jin Zhao. “Are you doing this on purpose? I’m telling you, only a kind girl like Yiyi deserves something so pure.”
Su Yi was praised and looked shy. She maintained her kind persona, “Don’t say that about Miss Jin…”
Jin Zhao played with her hair, too lazy to engage in a verbal battle. “Oh, then just bid again. I didn’t use your card.”
Lu Sichen hesitated.
Su Yi comforted him understandingly.
“It’s okay, Sichen. A bracelet doesn’t mean you’re less capable than others.”
Jin Zhao was impressed. He was already on the spot; not bidding would be even more embarrassing.
In the private room upstairs, Gu Jue watched someone drive up the price of an ordinary bracelet to an astronomical figure and almost laughed himself silly.
“Can we invite Jin Zhao and those two idiots to every auction? I wouldn’t need to do anything else; it’s pure profit.”
“Third Brother, you said she blocked for you you?” Cheng Wang was in a good mood recently, his expression less gloomy. “Unnecessary kindness is either treacherous or deceitful. You can’t trust her.”
Gu Jue turned to Cheng Wang, “I don’t allow anyone to say bad things about Jin Zhao. She’s my only sister.”
“She’s younger than you.” Wei Ting’s voice was cold.
“Her behavior is abnormal. She might be a spy sent by someone,” Cheng Wang never believed in baseless kindness. “Being soft-hearted is not your style.”
Wei Ting sat in the dark corner of the private room, the sparks in his hand flickering, highlighting his slender fingers. “I know what I’m doing.”
He glanced at the excited Gu Jue beside him. “What are they bidding on downstairs?”
Gu Jue showed him the picture on the tablet. “It’s just an ordinary bracelet, not worth much. I don’t know what’s going on; everyone is competing for it.”
Wei Ting glanced at it and picked up his phone.
“Bid 10 million.”
“Yes, sir.”
Qin Zhuli heard the voice in his earpiece and immediately raised his bidding card in the hall. “10 million.”
Everyone’s eyes turned to them, and they started whispering when they saw the number on Qin Zhuli’s card.
“Card number 1? Who is card number 1 today?”
“Their face isn’t shown, and only their subordinate came.”
“That assistant looks familiar. Is he…”
“The big shot said it’s worth 10 million, so it must be right. I want to bid too!”
Jin Zhao met Qin Zhuli’s gaze and almost jumped up from her seat in excitement.
Was Wei Ting crazy? This broken bracelet wasn’t worth 10 million. What would happen if he gave her that money?
Qin Zhuli saw her expression and nodded with a smile. He understood.
Lu Sichen hesitated. Since an anonymous big shot thought it was worth that much, should he also take a gamble?
Jin Zhao silently prayed that Lu Sichen would quickly bid, otherwise, she would lose Wei Ting’s money, and her heart would bleed.
Just then, her phone vibrated.
Gu Jue: “Third Brother definitely bid for you. Moved or not?!”
Heh, I dare not be move.
Jin Zhao almost fainted. A few more people were bidding, so she immediately got up and went to a corner where others couldn’t hear her to call Wei Ting.
The call was quickly answered.
“What is it?”
“You, right now, immediately stop bidding on that bracelet.”
Jin Zhao saw Lu Sichen about to bid and breathed a sigh of relief.
“Why?” Wei Ting asked.
Jin Zhao was afraid he would bid again. “No reason. Isn’t it simple? It’s not worth that price. Quickly let that idiot Lu Sichen buy it.”
Wei Ting was silent before Jin Zhao hung up.
On the other side, the host gaveled the sale.
“The white jade bracelet, 10.5 million, sold.”
Only 500,000 more than before. It was far less than Wei Ting’s bold bid of 10 million.
Jin Zhao’s heart finally settled when she saw Lu Sichen’s smug smile. She put down her phone and inadvertently looked up.
She met Wei Ting’s gaze from the floor-to-ceiling window upstairs.
