Chapter 965: Point of No Return
Long Qingyue picked up the lantern beside her, lit its candle, and led the way. Ye Wenxin noticed small compartments lined the walls, each holding various magic items. From small and priceless trinkets to divine weapons so valuable that taking out one could rival the wealth of a nation.
Long Qingyue’s secret chamber was like a massive treasure vault. There were so many items that Ye Wenxin couldn’t name. As they continued deeper along the path, the value of the items increased. Ye Wenxin even felt that Long Qingyue might be several times richer than Qian Duoduo, the supposedly richest merchant in the Golden Age Dynasty.
“See anything you like?” Long Qingyue asked smilingly upon noticing Ye Wenxin’s interest in these little things.
Come to think of it, she had never brought anyone into this secret chamber she built in her early years. Not even Big Baby had the right to enter.
“Some,” Ye Wenxin admitted. Although she could now be considered a wealthy woman, Long Qingyue seemed to possess the greatest assets on the entire continent.
“Become my wife, and all this will be yours.” Long Qingyue made a timely joke, but Ye Wenxin didn’t find it funny.
Long Qingyue stopped walking and examined her. “What’s wrong, Qingcheng? You think I’m not worthy of you?”
“No, I’m not worthy of you, Yue’er. I’m not the person you’re looking for,” Ye Wenxin refused decisively. Long Qingyue was too dangerous, so Ye Wenxin decided her life came first.
Long Qingyue wasn’t annoyed but asked with great interest, “Then who do you think I’m looking for, Qingcheng?”
“Someone you can control and wholeheartedly devoted to you,” Ye Wenxin answered after consideration. She could be neither of those for Long Qingyue.
“Heh. I didn’t expect you to understand me so well.” Long Qingyue gave a squinty-eyed smile. She looked even more alluring under the lantern light. “But, there are always exceptions to everything. If it’s you, I can pretend everything that happened before never existed. You only need to look at me from now on.”
Ye Wenxin shook her head. “I can’t do that.”
Never mind Ghost Mother, Sword Ghost, Jin Xiaoqin, or the kitsune Luo Mo. Madam Yu was waiting for her to take responsibility.
She could not abandon the responsibilities of having a child with someone.
“What a pity. I thought we would be the most perfect pair.” Long Qingyue feigned regret, yet her expression revealed nothing of her true emotions.
“There’s still plenty of time. Maybe the next person who’s right for you will show up soon. I will support you like a sister no matter what.” Then, Ye Wenxin added, “As long as it’s not Immortal Lord Taohua.”
Long Qingyue moved her lips slightly. Finally, she scolded, “You’re so boring.”
She couldn’t understand how anyone could be blind enough to fall for someone as unromantic as Ye Wenxin. She quickened her pace, not caring whether Ye Wenxin might accidentally trigger some trap behind her.
Ye Wenxin, however, thought Long Qingyue had finally stopped teasing her. She secretly felt relieved.
She knew Long Qingyue was only toying with her. However, if Long Qingyue kept acting like this, Ye Wenxin feared she’d eventually take her words seriously. So, she did her best to guard her final defense line.
Each harbored different thoughts, yet neither realized they were cautiously protecting this relationship. That invisible wall between them made it impossible to see into each other’s hearts.
“This is the place.” At last, the two arrived at the end of the secret chamber. There was a sealed space made entirely of refined steel, covered with various reinforcement talismans, capable of holding off a cultivator nearing ascension for a time.
Ye Wenxin marveled at Long Qingyue’s extravagant wealth and surveyed the surrounding furnishings. All around them were magic items sealed in individual spots with protective formations. A large circular bed stood at the center.
“Yue’er, I know your surname means ‘dragon,’ but I didn’t expect you to sleep with treasure.” Ye Wenxin lifted the curtains and saw a delicate little box on the bed. She didn’t know what was inside, but it gave her an ominous feeling.
Long Qingyue waved Ye Wenxin off and put the small box away, not giving her any chance to see inside. Seeing Ye Wenxin trying to find something else, she pointed toward a nearby chest half the size of a person.
Made of pure gold, engraved with words of blessing—at first glance, it looked like a birthday gift from the emperor to Long Qingyue. Ye Wenxin reached out, using her divine sense to probe it, but she couldn’t discern the contents.
“Yue’er, don’t you know what your little brother sent you?”
Long Qingyue shook her head. “Would I have called you here if I did?”
Ye Wenxin looked puzzled. “I thought you dragged me here to watch the excitement. But seeing this whole room full of dangerous things, this one might be no different.”
Long Qingyue laughed softly. Leaning in, she asked in Ye Wenxin’s ear, “Are you scared?”
Feeling that soft, fragrant body press against her back, Ye Wenxin visibly shuddered. She forced herself to calm down. “Of course I’m scared. I’m not immortal. Look at how long it took us to deal with the Phoenix Feather Robe. There might be a real dragon inside this thing.”
Long Qingyue chuckled, her hand sliding downward to wrap around Ye Wenxin’s waist. Ye Wenxin felt her intentions were far from innocent.
Could this be…?
Ye Wenxin immediately tried to break free and leave the room. However, the door shut tight, cutting off her only exit.
“Yue’er, you’re not seriously planning to use that move, are you?” Ye Wenxin had trusted Long Qingyue too much, believing she wouldn’t harm her. But it seemed Long Qingyue didn’t think forcing herself upon another was harmful.
Long Qingyue let go and removed her outer robe. “What move?” she asked, looking confused.
“The one you always looked down on the most—forcing things to the point of no return.”
“Hehehe, have you been hoping for that all along, Qingcheng?” Long Qingyue tossed the question back at Ye Wenxin, but her expression turned cold. “I’ll only make you beg me. How could I stoop to something anyone could do? Qingcheng, I’m hurt that you think so little of me.”
Ye Wenxin didn’t know how to express or describe her feelings right now. Long Qingyue walked back toward the chest. “I truly wanted you to see what’s inside.”
Ye Wenxin blushed, realizing she’d been too self-centered, making things awkward for them. Long Qingyue’s smile returned as she motioned for Ye Wenxin to stand beside her.
