Chapter 11: Genius Enrollment Slots
This was an extraordinarily luxurious silver-white carriage.
The four white horses pulling it were high-grade breeds, looking far superior to Ashura’s Charcoal.
The carriage bore a family crest of interwoven lightning and scepters.
Ashura did not know which family it belonged to, but the coachman gave him an intensely dangerous feeling.
The driver had to be a high-level expert, and any clan that made such an expert handle its reins must possess formidable power.
As the silver carriage appeared, the crowd that had surrounded Ashura instantly deserted him and flocked to gawk at its owner.
Ashura curled his lip in disdain, yet he still watched the carriage with interest.
He wanted to see whether this scion of a great clan would also be turned away for arriving late, just as he had been.
When the carriage rolled to a halt, the expert driver announced the arrival, then slowly opened the door.
A breathtaking girl with silver hair stepped down from the carriage.
Although still very young, she was already an undeniable beauty.
Her skin was snowy white, her features exquisite, and the fitted silver gown that matched her long silver hair made her appear so noble that everyone instinctively felt inferior.
Ashura, too, was stunned by her looks; he had never seen such a lovely girl.
Yet his mind was filled with thoughts of how to pass the entrance test, so he did not lose himself in her lofty charm.
The three instructors showed no extra enthusiasm on account of the girl’s appearance or her family’s influence.
Only the young male instructor’s eyes shone as he straightened almost imperceptibly.
After giving the three instructors a slight bow, the silver-haired girl filled out her résumé.
She strolled to the young female instructor beneath the sign that read “Magician Test” and handed her the form.
The young woman glanced at the sheet and her eyes widened slightly.
She quickly regained her composure and said, “Candidate, grasp the magic-testing stone, release your mana, and we will measure your element and rank.”
The silver-haired girl nodded and, without any preparation, clasped the white testing stone on the table.
A brilliant silver light burst from the magic stone, dazzlingly bright.
Exclamations immediately rose from the crowd behind her.
The young female instructor, visibly surprised, announced, “Lightning-element magician, and already at Magician Stage 1.”
The onlookers sucked in cold breaths and began speculating about the girl.
Some guessed her age, some her family background, and others what realm she might reach in the future.
The gasp and chatter behind her elicited no response from the silver-haired girl.
She maintained the same cool nobility, as if long accustomed to praise and adoration.
She asked softly, “Instructor, have I passed the test and been admitted?”
The young woman was still dazed, thinking that there were so many prodigies this year.
Several students who met the genius standard had arrived over the past two days, and today this beauty was an even rarer lightning-element talent.
It looked like the new class would be strong; who would earn the title of freshman king?
The older male instructor gave a light cough, and the young woman snapped back to herself.
A bit embarrassed, she at once changed to a warm tone and said, “Of course you passed; simply being a rare lightning-element magician grants you admission.”
“Besides, you have already reached Magician Stage 1, making you one of the academy’s gifted freshmen.”
“Student Clara, welcome to Saint Gobban Academy.”
The instructor’s confirmation triggered a wave of enthusiastic cheers.
Everyone had just witnessed a genius’s enrollment; perhaps this Clara would one day become a renowned magician of King’s Continent.
It was a story they could brag about later.
Hearing this, Clara’s face lit up; after all, she was still only 14 or 15.
She had arrived on the last day because her recent breakthrough into the Magician realm had delayed her journey.
Now the instructor’s approval made her exceedingly happy.
Just as she accepted the Saint Gobban Academy badge from the instructor and was about to express her thanks, a sudden young voice called out, “Hold on, Instructor!”
“Did you just say that any lightning-element magician counts as a genius and can receive an extra enrollment slot? That’s what I heard!”
The crowd stared in shock at the speaker, a tall black-haired youth who squeezed out of the ring of spectators… Ashura, who had just taken the Warrior test.
People wondered what he was up to; had he not been turned away because the warrior quota was full?
Why ask about the magician test? Had the setback driven him mad?
Or was he trying to show off in front of the instructors, hoping they would make an exception?
The youth ignored their chatter and fixed his blazing eyes on the female instructor behind the table.
Clara also turned to look at the tall boy.
At first she assumed he was simply trying to attract her attention.
Too many boys had already pulled foolish stunts in hopes of impressing her.
But when she saw that his burning gaze did not stop on her for even a moment and instead went straight to the instructor, she realized she had misunderstood this peer of hers.
Relieved yet faintly displeased, she felt the inscrutable mood swings of a teenage girl.
The young female instructor frowned.
Annoyed at being interrupted, she said, “Not every lightning-element student earns the genius title.”
“It’s just that lightning-element magicians are extremely rare, so the academy allows them additional admission.”
As soon as she spoke, Clara noticed a spark in the black-haired boy’s eyes, though she wondered if it was her imagination.
Then the boy raised his voice again: “Instructor, are you sure? Any lightning-element freshman may study here?”
The young woman replied impatiently, “I’m sure; do you think I can change the school’s enrollment rules?”
The moment she finished, she felt something was wrong but could not tell what it was.
Before she figured it out, the black-haired youth strode forward, swiftly filled out another résumé, and slapped it onto the table.
He seized the white magic-testing stone with both hands and shouted, “Light up for me!”
Under his battle cry and the crowd’s puzzled gaze, the stone in his hands emitted a faint, dusky silver glow…
