“The Domineering Officer and the Wife Who Went Berserk and Defeated Everyone” Chapter 22

Chapter 22:I Told You To Eat Less And Work More. Why Are You So fat?

Their arrival in the village immediately drew everyone’s attention. People watched as the two returned together, carrying large bags and packages, whispering amongst themselves.

“Are they dating? I haven’t heard anything about this.”

“You don’t know? Wantang’s mother and Captain Fu’s mother are close friends. This was a marriage arranged between the two families since childhood. Captain Fu went to serve in the army at a young age, so they hadn’t met until now. He came back on leave to see her, and it seems their wedding is imminent…”

“So that’s how it is! Captain Fu is so handsome! Fang Zhiqing even had the nerve to say Wantang was interested in him. If I had such a handsome and capable fiancé, I wouldn’t have eyes for any other man!”

“Exactly! Don’t mention that person. Thinking about what he did with Song Shiyi at the educated youth point makes me sick!”

“I said Wantang didn’t even go to work today, so it turns out someone’s supporting her! Tsk tsk, even if Captain Fu’s family is well-off, she shouldn’t buy so many things at once. She’s such a spendthrift!”

“Who told her she’s lucky? She got such a young and successful fiancé!”

“We work ourselves to death, and we don’t have such good luck! New clothes, all sorts of things…”

Upon hearing this, Aunt Liu stopped cooking and dragged her fat daughter out to watch the commotion. Standing at a distance, arms crossed, she eyed the large bags and packages.

She said sourly, “Look at her smug look, as if she wants the whole village to know she’s hooked a military officer! She bought so many things, showing off!”

Aunt Liu had been humiliated by Su Wantang that morning and had a fight with Su Jianguo. Now, she found Su Wantang increasingly unpleasant.

Didn’t everyone say Su Wantang was a little crazy?

Looking at her now, she seemed quite normal.

Aunt Liu looked at Fu Yanci and Su Wantang standing together; they actually looked quite well-matched. Then she looked at her own fat daughter and felt a pang of despair.

The crazy one was pretty, but the non-crazy one was fat and a bit ugly. If forced to choose, any normal man would choose the first one, right?

Indeed, comparison is the thief of joy!

Aunt Liu pushed her fat daughter, grumbling, “I told you to eat less and work more. Why are you so fat!”

The fat daughter scoffed, her face quivering.

“Mom, why do you always boost others and belittle yourself? Am I fat? This is healthy! Besides, nothing’s set in stone between them. They haven’t even gotten a marriage license yet. Who knows if it will work out? Maybe Captain Fu is just visiting because of their families’ relationship, and he might not actually marry her!”

Aunt Liu looked at her daughter suspiciously. “What’s it to you whether they get married or not? Does Captain Fu have a screw loose and marry you instead?”

The fat daughter said angrily, “Mom, what are you saying! Why do you assume it’s not for me! Just wait and see! Maybe…”

She narrowed her eyes and whispered, “Look at her skinny figure, like a beanpole! She obviously can’t bear sons. Maybe Captain Fu likes someone like me, someone who can bear sons…”

Aunt Liu’s eyes lit up. She stared at her daughter for a while. Although fat, her daughter had a large behind – good for childbearing.

She echoed, “Right, what Fatty said! Look how skinny she is, not as blessed as our Fatty! Fatty, do you have a plan?”

Fatty stared intently at Fu Yanci’s back and said to Aunt Liu, “Mom, just wait and see!”

The villagers watched Aunt Liu and her daughter leave, then gathered again, chattering.

“Hey, Aunt Liu’s fat girl is really ambitious! She even tried to interfere with the marriage between Wan Tang and Captain Fu. As a mother, she doesn’t even know how to intervene.”

“Exactly. Besides being fat, she has no merits. She’s lazy and bad-tempered. Whoever marries her will be unlucky for eight lifetimes.”

“They’re just daydreaming. Who would want her? Trying to steal Captain Fu from Wantang is wishful thinking!”

“Okay, okay, stop talking. If Aunt Liu hears this, she’ll nag us endlessly…”

As Fu Yanci and Su Wantang reached their doorstep, they smelled the aroma of food from inside. Su Jianguo warmly invited Fu Yanci to stay for dinner. At the dinner table, Su Jianguo inquired about Fu Yanci’s parents. They chatted happily. Su Jianguo was very satisfied with his future son-in-law.

After dinner, it was late. Fu Yanci got up to leave. Su Wantang wanted to go for a walk to aid digestion, so she walked Fu Yanci to the bridge where he parked his car.

They walked side-by-side, chatting casually. The moonlight cast long shadows. Fu Yanci deliberately slowed his pace, subtly moving closer to Su Wantang’s shadow.

Near the bridge, he stopped, gazing deeply at Su Wantang. He mustered his courage and said, “You’re still sick, and you’ve been out for so long today. Rest early tonight. Tomorrow, I’ll…”

Before he could finish, a large figure suddenly darted out from behind a tree, charging straight towards Fu Yanci.
