Chapter 29 Did You Report It To The Police?

After Zhang Daniu’s crying subsided somewhat, Su Wantang pulled a White Rabbit milk candy from her pocket, unwrapped it, and slipped it into Zhang Daniu’s mouth.

“Sweet?”

With her mouth full of candy, Zhang Daniu mumbled, “Sweet!”

Su Wantang looked at the little crybaby in front of her and began to ask about the matter at hand: “Why are you crying?”

Perhaps remembering the sad event again, Zhang Daniu’s nose twitched, and she looked at Su Wantang with red eyes.

She opened her mouth, then lowered her head, unable to utter a word.

The book doesn’t describe the lives of these minor characters in much detail, so Su Wantang could only rely on the original owner’s memories.

In the original owner’s memory, Zhang Daniu had never experienced such a breakdown.

She had always been a sunny, cheerful, and resilient girl.

What could have made her so upset?

Su Wantang couldn’t figure it out, so she stared at her legs and asked directly, “My father said you walk with a limp. Did you get into trouble with thugs? Did they beat you?”

Zhang Daniu looked at Su Wantang again, and the tears in her eyes welled up once more.

She clutched Su Wantang’s hand tightly, crying heartbreakingly, “Xiao Wan, how can there be such a heartless man like my father in this world?”

Memories flooded back, and Zhang Daniu’s eyes were filled with pain and disappointment.

She tried hard to live, to protect her mother and grandmother, but he only cared about his own interests, treating her as a commodity to be bought and sold at will.

“I always thought, even if he was bad, he wouldn’t be so heartless.”

Zhang Daniu’s voice trembled. “I thought he still cared about me a little, after all, I’m his daughter! But I was wrong. He doesn’t care about our lives or deaths, he only cares about himself!”

Zhang Daniu’s tears flowed unceasingly. Her last shred of hope for this father was completely shattered at this moment.
