Chapter 51: Shouldn’t Have Messed with Her

Captain John listened and his face grew solemn.

Then he said in a humble tone, “Brothers, we are the Bida Mercenary Corps; we are only passing through, so I hope Captain Kidd will make things easy for us, and we are willing to hand over part of our pay so the brothers of the Black Wind Mercenary Corps can buy some drinks!”

The Black Wind Mercenary Corps across from them burst into even louder laughter, and their leader Kidd bragged, “Since you know my name, you should know my appetite; hurry up and hand over gold and silver to honor our brothers!”

The members of the Bida Mercenary Corps felt angry and frustrated, yet they could do nothing, for they were no match for the Black Wind Mercenary Corps, and they understood their captain’s intention… better to lose money than lives.

Captain John showed a tragic resolve, bit his teeth, and shouted, “We are transporting a shipment of Beast Forest herbs to Puro City, and the whole job is worth 100 gold coins.”

“The employer paid us 50 gold up front, and I am willing to give all 50 coins to you in exchange for safe passage!”

The Bida mercenaries were shocked yet helpless; they fully understood the captain’s decision, but two months of their hard work was about to be robbed again.

But Captain Kidd of the Black Wind Mercenary Corps spat with disdain and said, “Do you take me for a beggar? 50 gold isn’t even enough for my brothers to enjoy two days in the city brothel; hand over all 100 gold!”

Captain John suppressed his anger and said in a low voice, “The employer only gave us 50 gold as a deposit, and we took the outer edge of Beast Forest to cut costs; now we are already giving you these 50 coins!”

“The remaining 50 coins can only be collected once we deliver in Puro City; does Captain Kidd intend to go there with me to fetch them?”

Captain Kidd snorted heavily; of course he dared not go to Puro City for that 50 gold, since he was still on the city’s most-wanted blacklist.

Not to mention the unfathomably strong city lord, even an ordinary general there could crush him.

He shot Captain John a sidelong glance and barked, “You penniless wretches got lucky today; leave the 50 gold and all your horses, and I’ll spare your pathetic lives!”

The Bida mercenaries exploded in outrage, for the horses were more precious than their own lives, and without them they could not transport the goods.

This was cutting off their livelihood, so everyone instantly shouted their furious opposition.

Ashura kept watching the situation unfold, thinking it would be best to settle things with money, and once in Puro City he could sell the items in his space belt and reimburse the Bida Corps the 50 gold.

Less trouble is better, yet he had not expected the Black Wind mercenaries to be so greedy they even wanted the horses.

While Ashura was distracted, Daifei suddenly darted out from behind him, brandished a longbow at the Black Wind mercenaries, and shouted, “Godfather, we can’t agree; without horses the Bida Corps has nothing left, how can we take more jobs? Let’s fight them!”

As soon as she spoke, Ashura sighed inwardly, and Captain John nervously scolded her to fall back.

But the brigands of the Black Wind Corps all stared wide-eyed, surprised to find such a pretty girl in the caravan, and she even looked untouched.

Leader Kidd swept Daifei with a lecherous gaze and clicked his tongue, “Who would have thought we’d meet such a fine piece of goods in this wilderness!”

“Forget the horses; hand over the 50 gold and that girl and let me ride her for a few days… far better than riding a horse, hahahaha!”

The surrounding thugs chimed in, “Boss, once you break in that little red filly, let the brothers have some fun too; we’ve been pent-up for ages!”

Kidd cursed with a laugh, “You bastard, the thing between your legs is already growing mushrooms, yet you dare touch my woman? Go visit that widow you fancy in the next town!”

Listening to the filthy talk, the Bida mercenaries’ faces changed, but they only hid Daifei behind them and refused to back down.

Everyone braced to die and waited for the captain’s order, and Captain John even raised his spear, ready to fight Kidd to the death.

Suddenly Daifei thought of something, turned tearfully toward Ashura, who was leaning on the wagon watching, and whispered, “When the fighting starts, run behind us as far as you can; I’ll hold these bandits off for you!”

Ashura looked at the girl whose tear-streaked face resembled a kitten, gave a helpless smile, and thought that keeping a low profile was no longer possible.

He then jumped off the wagon and, under everyone’s shocked gaze, walked slowly to the very front of the formation.

The crowd stared in confusion at this supposed weakling, not knowing what he intended, and several familiar mercenaries shouted for him to stop, but he did not answer.

Daifei turned pale and tried to pull him back, yet the mercenaries beside her did not dare let her advance and held her behind them.

Even the Black Wind mercenaries, still spouting obscenities, stared in confusion at the tall youth walking toward them.

They heard the black-haired youth mutter as he walked, “I didn’t want to fight while I’m still injured, yet you insist on bullying her?”

“She’s a good girl I haven’t even held hands with yet, so you people… deserve to die!”

As soon as the words fell, Ashura unleashed Chasing Wind, Pursuing Thunder at full power and charged at Leader Kidd; it was his first time using the technique as a Grand Martial Master, and he closed the distance like a bolt of lightning.

Kidd paled with shock, having never imagined the frail-looking youth possessed such terrifying strength; he himself was only at early Grand Martial Master and knew merely a single set of green-grade movement techniques.

With the lightning-imbued Chasing Wind, Pursuing Thunder bearing down, he could only raise both arms to guard his chest.

Ashura then drove a full-power Thunderclap Fist with his right hand onto Kidd’s arms, and Kidd felt a tremendous force numb his limbs and shove him back several steps.

Before he could recover, three dull thunderclaps exploded before his chest; the internal force of Thunderclap Fist pierced his arms and armor and pounded his chest, and Kidd spat a mouthful of dark blood, his organs clearly injured.

Kidd had just reached for his blade when a powerful hand clamped his throat and lifted him off the ground.

He clawed at the hand on his throat in terror, his legs kicking frantically.

Holding him aloft, Ashura said coolly, “Black Wind Mercenary Corps? I hate any group with ‘Black’ in its name!”

With that, a lightning bolt as thick as an arm was summoned from the sky and smashed straight onto the suspended Kidd.

The onlookers saw a flash and a crack of thunder, and Kidd turned as charred as his black armor, thin wisps of smoke curling from him.

Ashura casually tossed the dead Kidd to the ground, wiped his right hand on his clothes as if disgusted, and then looked at the stunned Black Wind mercenaries around him.

He gave a wicked grin and said, “Not running yet? Then all of you can stay right here…”
