Chapter 24: The Children Go to School
Time flies, and before we know it, it’s August 28th.
In the morning, Mi Qiu went to work, and Mi Xia and Zhang Hongxia took the children to register for school.
Because they had a house, the registration went smoothly. The children were very happy, jumping and skipping. Except for Mi Xiaohuan and Mo Zhixia, the three boys were all of school age.
On the morning of their first day of school, the three children, wearing new clothes and carrying new schoolbags made by Zhang Hongxia—a stylish, diagonal style—happily walked to school.
After watching them enter the school, they went home.
Textbooks were distributed on the first day of school. The teacher organized the students to clean, and the children played and cleaned together.
In the afternoon, the children came home from school, very happy.
“Mom, Mom, give me some newspapers! The teacher asked us to wrap our books with newspapers,” the children excitedly shouted.
“I’ve already prepared them for you. Go check in your room,” Zhang Hongxia said dotingly.
The children quickly ran into their room and carefully wrapped their books in newspapers. After wrapping all the books, they neatly put them into their schoolbags.
Even the youngest, Mi Weiguo, could do this himself. In their previous lives, this would have been done by the adults at home.
This era is very easy to be satisfied in. It’s just going to school. After a morning of work, the children came back happily. In their previous lives, many children skipped school and didn’t want to go.
At dinner, the three children chattered incessantly, and Mi Xia, Mi Qiu, and Zhang Hongxia listened attentively.
At this moment, Mi Xia missed Mo Haoyue.
After Xia Xia fell asleep, Mi Xia took out stationery and wrote a letter to Mo Haoyue.
When Mo Haoyue first arrived at the army, he sent back a letter to report his safety.
Mi Xia began to write:
How are you doing lately? Are you studying hard? Be sure to persevere.
My three nephews started school today, and they shared their school life when they got home. Big brother and sister-in-law are very happy.
But I miss you a little. You’re all alone there, so take good care of yourself.
Xia Xia cried looking for you the day you left, but children are forgetful, and she’s very happy every day now.
I’m sending you some food; it might arrive later than the letter. Let me know after you’ve eaten it.
After finishing the letter, she put it in an envelope and planned to mail it tomorrow.
By the way, in my past life, when I read novels, there was a postage stamp called One Piece Red. It’s very valuable now.
I’ll go to the post office tomorrow and see if they have it. The most important thing now is to prepare food for Mo Haoyue.
She took some durable food: cured meat, cured sausage, apples, beef cubes, beef sauce, and raisins.
And a box of snacks: including honeycombs, honey three-layer cake, colorful strips, glutinous rice sticks, mung bean cakes, and water chestnut cakes.
This box of snacks is the best gift for visiting relatives and friends now.
Mi Xia felt something was missing. Right, a sweater! Tomorrow, she’ll go to Zhang Xiaoyu’s place to buy some yarn and knit one for him.
The next day, Mi Xia took her daughter to wash their hands before eating breakfast. Zhang Hongxia made porridge, a bowl of pickled vegetables, and steamed several steamed buns.
Now that some family members are working and others are going to school, she doesn’t mind using more ingredients, ensuring everyone is full.
After breakfast, Mi Xia carried a backpack and prepared to go to the post office. She needs to buy another bicycle; otherwise, walking every day is inconvenient, and it’s also hard on her sister-in-law who walks to buy groceries every day.
When she was close to the post office, Mi Xia used her mind to move the package and letter from her space into the backpack before entering.
“Comrade, I want to buy stamps. Do you have the ‘Yi Pian Hong’ version?” Mi Xia politely asked.
“No, that stamp was issued in very small quantities.”
“Okay, thank you, comrade.”
“Please help me mail this letter and package,” Mi Xia said as she handed over the items.
“No trouble, serving the people. Please fill in your ID information and address.”
Mi Xia completed the steps, paid, and prepared to go to Zhang Xiaoyu’s to buy a bicycle.
“Knock knock knock.”
Who is it? Zhang Xiaoyu shouted hoarsely.
“It’s me, Mi Xia.”
Before Mi Xia finished speaking, the door opened from the inside.
“I knew it was you from your voice. Come in quickly. Why haven’t you been here for so long? I’ve been collecting materials in bits and pieces recently, and there’s not much,” Zhang Xiaoyu said aggrievedly.
“My husband returned to the army a few days ago, and then I sent my nephews to school, so it was delayed for a few days. Now that I have some free time, I came here today.”
“Do you have any bicycle tickets? I want to buy a women’s bicycle. My brother-in-law uses the men’s bicycle to commute every day.”
“I have an 80% new women’s bicycle. Do you want it? No bicycle ticket needed,” Zhang Xiaoyu eagerly asked.
“Okay, let me see it. If it’s suitable, I’ll ride it away.”
It’s unexpectedly convenient; a second-hand one is fine as long as there’s no problem.
“By the way, do you have any yarn? I want to knit some sweaters and scarves, in both men’s and women’s colors,” Mi Xia asked again.
“Yes, I’ll get it for you. That’s all I have,” Zhang Xiaoyu also brought several large knitting needles.
Mi Xia checked and found enough to knit two men’s sweaters plus a scarf, and enough for one women’s sweater. That’s right, women love beauty.
“Okay, if you have more next time, keep some for me.”
Zhang Xiaoyu readily agreed.
Mi Xia was also satisfied; the price was not expensive. After paying, she was about to leave.
Zhang Xiaoyu called out to Mi Xia awkwardly, “That, do you have any materials lately? Anything is fine.”
Mi Xia looked at Zhang Xiaoyu and slowly nodded, “Go to the small woods in half an hour.”
“Oh, sister, you’re my real sister!” Zhang Xiaoyu happily sent Mi Xia to the door before reluctantly returning.
Mi Xia arrived at the small woods and checked that no one was around. She then safely entered her space. The pond was full of fish, and the crops had been harvested several times.
She directly took out a large bag, spread it on the ground, and poured the grain on top. She also took out various foods, including red beans, green beans, red dates, brown sugar, white sugar, and various seafood.
Poultry, fish, eggs, and fruits—Mi Xia took out everything she could.
After organizing everything, Mi Xia leisurely ate an apple.
When Zhang Xiaoyu arrived, she was shocked by the amount of supplies. She was truly fortunate that she hadn’t investigated Mi Xia’s background before.
She hadn’t planned to sell supplies; it was Zhang Xiaoyu who asked, and she only agreed. She got so much in less than half an hour. What kind of background does she have?
Zhang Xiaoyu looked at Mi Xia with shining eyes, then turned to her younger brother and said, “Quickly count and record it, then tell me.”
“Little Mi, you’re my lucky star!” Zhang Xiaoyu laughed so hard that her mouth reached her ears.
“I have one more thing,” Mi Xia said while eating her apple.
“What is it? Tell me. If I can’t do it, I’ll ask the big boss to do it for you.”
Zhang Xiaoyu was so happy. If others had something to ask of her, she wouldn’t be happy, but this was her big benefactor. If she helped her, she would surely remember her kindness.
