Chapter 6: The Vicious Second-Generation Heir—A Despicable Deceiver
The night in City A was like a fleeting melody hidden within a chaotic pile of garbage—loud and lively, yet unable to mask the filth beneath.
Lin Yu parked his car smoothly in front of the bar, where the welcoming staff, recognizing him, respectfully escorted him inside.
His mission today was to rescue the original male lead from being harassed by the “vicious rich second-generation heir.”
Striding forward on the plush carpet, he urged, “Turn on the navigation. Where’s the male lead?”
001’s glow dimmed entirely. “Host, I can’t locate him… I’m a useless system, wuwuwu…”
Lin Yu lifted his gaze, scanning the dazzling dance floor before waving off the attendant and slowly searching through the dimly lit bar.
The noise was overwhelming—shouts from the crowd, the pounding of dancing feet, and the deafening music from the DJ—drowning out all other sounds, making it impossible to distinguish direction.
Men and women swayed freely on the dance floor, lost in the rhythm, their bodies moving wildly like a frenzied horde.
Lin Yu glanced around, observing the bustling VIP booths.
“001, it’s too loud here.”
Suddenly, his expression sharpened, and he strode toward one of the booths.
He seized the wrist of a man about to pour alcohol on someone and grabbed the arm of the male lead, who seemed to have been pushed to the ground. Half-dragging, half-lifting, he pulled the man up.
Lin Yu shot a cold glare at the aggressor, his voice icy as he uttered the man’s name with precision, his gaze frosty and commanding:
“Li Yide, I think your family should hear about this.”
Li Yide looked bewildered, his face paling in terror as he stammered, “Lin Yu?! What are you doing here?”
“Didn’t you say you had something to do tonight? That you had a class?”
He raised his hands defensively. “I swear, I didn’t do anything! This guy tried to punch me first, so I had my bodyguards restrain him!” As he spoke, his eyes darted nervously to Lin Yu’s expression, and he stood up, reaching for Lin Yu’s sleeve.
Lin Yu kept a firm grip on the male lead, steadying him with a hand on his shoulder before turning back to Li Yide. “Get that girl inside to leave.”
Without another word, he guided the male lead out, supporting him as they headed toward the bar’s VIP lounge.
Li Yide slammed his hand on the table, pointing accusingly at one of his companions. “I told you to find better quality people—what the hell is this?!”
Lin Yu helped the male lead into a chair, called his family’s chauffeur, then hung up and instructed a staff member to give Lu Yixing some sober-up medicine.
[Former Small World Male Lead—Lu Yixing]
[During university, he was humiliated by all sorts of people… A classic “don’t bully the young and poor” trope…]
As Lin Yu’s warmth began to fade, Lu Yixing, still dazed, clutched the hem of Lin Yu’s shirt, pressing his muddled face against Lin Yu’s thigh.
Though he slumped back to the ground, his other hand clung tightly to Lin Yu’s calf, wrapping around him like a drunken octopus.
Lin Yu frowned as he finished the call, shooting a sharp glance at Lu Yixing before scowling deeply.
After a short while, the anxious-looking butler and driver rushed in. While speaking to Lin Yu, he pulled Lu Yixing up and carried him on his back. “Young master, are you alright? Ah, bars are just too chaotic these days!”
Lin Yu strode forward, following the driver to the car. The driver placed Lu Yixing in the back seat and, upon hearing Lin Yu’s deep voice, nodded and drove toward the hotel.
“Leave it to you, 001,” Lin Yu said, reclining in the car seat with his hands folded behind his head, a look of contentment on his face as he enjoyed the wind rushing past his cheeks, squinting slightly in pleasure.
Upon arriving at the hotel, he instructed the driver to place Lu Yixing on the soft bed.
The elastic mattress dipped slightly under the weight, and the sheets became somewhat disheveled from the boy’s unconscious grasping, forming creases.
The boy clutched the sheets tightly in his hands, his entire body curled up like a hedgehog with no sense of security—a stark contrast to how he had clung desperately to Lin Yu’s leg earlier.
Lin Yu sat on the sofa, legs crossed and expression relaxed, scrolling through messages on his phone while quietly waiting for Lu Yixing’s fast-acting sober-up medicine to take effect.
[Li Yide: I’m sorry, Xiao Lin.
What happened today was an accident. You know I’ve only ever liked you since we were kids.
I don’t know that girl—someone else brought her along.
I’m sorry, Lin Lin. I won’t let them act recklessly like this again.]
Lin Yu replied briefly to Li Yide’s message:
[Okay.]
……
Lu Yixing suddenly woke up, like a drowning man gasping for air, his body jerking upright in an instant. He lifted his head and immediately scanned his surroundings with alertness.
Seeing Lin Yu sitting properly on the sofa, engrossed in his phone without sparing him a glance, Lu Yixing asked warily, “Who are you? How did I get here?”
Lin Yu looked up at him, about to return to his phone, but then seemed to remember something and pressed his lips together. “Did you lose your memory?”
Though he smiled, his words remained sharp.
Lu Yixing grabbed the sheets and pulled them up defensively.
Lin Yu frowned slightly, a hint of confusion crossing his face. “You really don’t remember? You got drunk in a bar, surrounded by a group of people, and I brought you out. None of that rings a bell?”
“Junior? Top of your class—I know you,” Lin Yu added.
Lu Yixing’s muddled mind grew clearer, and as Lin Yu’s words jogged his memory, his face paled slightly.
“I—how did you get me out…?” He lowered his head, his expression turning dejected. “I’ve caused you trouble.”
Then, he looked at Lin Yu with concern, his eyes brimming with palpable worry:
“Those guys are rich and powerful—did they give you any trouble?”
“001, are people in this world always this… naive?” Lin Yu couldn’t help but mutter.
If he could be bullied, how had he walked out unscathed? How was he staying in such an extravagant hotel?
“Host, don’t forget the cohabitation contract!” 001 exclaimed, its light scattering wildly like it was poisoned.
Lin Yu shook his head.
Lu Yixing let out a long sigh of relief. He jumped off the bed and quickly approached Lin Yu’s sofa, flashing him a grateful smile—his small canine teeth particularly noticeable.
“You’re welcome, Lu. Is your family situation not great? Why work at a place like that?” Lin Yu slightly furrowed his brows, looking at him with apparent concern.
Lu Yixing’s face carried a trace of unnatural embarrassment as he turned his head away, avoiding direct eye contact with Lin Yu. “Yeah, I was working there to support my studies… Never expected to run into my sister there. Luckily, I had a friend take her away.”
“That… bastard got really angry and, taking advantage of being a customer, kept forcing drinks on me,” he said with some regret.
“Don’t work at places like that anymore, alright?”
Lin Yu handed him a stack of papers.
Lu Yixing took them in confusion, his slender fingers flipping through the pages. He froze for a moment upon seeing the bold words “Cohabitation Contract” before continuing to read.
[…pledges to fund [blank] for university…]
[The recipient must fulfill the following requirements:
No grade below B in any subject
Minimum of three academic publications per year
…]
Lu Yixing looked up at Lin Yu’s face, only to see the faint smile in his eyes, like a mesmerizing whirlpool.
“No more part-time jobs. I’ll sponsor you, okay?”
Lu Yixing felt his eyes gradually moisten, tears blurring his vision as a single crystal drop slid down his cheek.
Lin Yu was taken aback and immediately handed him a tissue from the hotel.
He was stunned.
He swore this was his first time taking on an emotional Small World mission.
Listening to Lu Yixing’s choked-up voice thanking him and vowing to serve him tirelessly after graduation, Lin Yu took a long moment to recover.
He patted Lu Yixing’s shoulder and said with solemnity,
“Well, I’m just happy to help.”
Lin Yu had the driver take him back to school. The starry-eyed young man sat stiffly in the luxury car, barely daring to breathe.
As the city lights flickered on, Lin Yu drove into the sea of vehicles, the red taillights stretching into ribbons of fire, never ceasing, drawing straight lines that rivaled the stars.
In the distance, the silhouette of a landmark building stood outlined against the night sky, sternly watching over everyone below.
It had been a while since he’d asked 001 to “investigate” Zhang Modu. True to duty, 001 had discreetly planted a high-tech locator from the Interstellar World on Zhang Modu.
Lin Yu tapped the steering wheel and glanced at the screen.
“001, tell me—why is Zhang Modu near my family’s old estate?”
Nearly three times in one day?
Coincidence?
Or deliberate?
