Chapter 25: Rape First, Then Kill
Yi An’an was extremely panicked. She looked up and found herself staring into a pair of emotionless eyes.
Handsome features and a cold, hard aura—it was Zhan Nan Hui.
Wasn’t Zhan Nan Hui under surveillance and not allowed to leave the village? How did he suddenly appear here?
And today, he wasn’t dressed in the usual dull gray cotton clothes. He wore a neatly pressed Zhongshan suit, and with his close-cropped hair and sharp features, he actually resembled Jet Li’s character from The Bodyguard from Beijing.
Just as Yi An’an was about to speak, the man motioned for her to stay quiet and pulled her quickly to hide outside the back door.
“She went around the back! I just saw that woman!” a man shouted from the front.
Yi An’an grew anxious. It seemed she wouldn’t be able to escape with the books today. What a pity—those dozen books…
She glanced at the basket full of books. Though reluctant, she put it down and grabbed Zhan Nan Hui to run.
But he didn’t move. Instead, he signaled for Yi An’an not to act rashly. Then he looked at the red scarf around her neck and took it.
Yi An’an froze. The pursuers were almost upon them, and he was still waiting around—was he trying to get caught?
She was selling pirated books. If she got caught—especially in this era—it could mean serious trouble.
As Yi An’an fretted, someone had already come through the back door in pursuit.
In the next instant, Zhan Nan Hui kicked out, knocking the man flat on the ground with cries of pain.
Seeing this, the two men behind became alert, but it was already too late. Zhan Nan Hui moved quickly, landing a punch and a kick, easily taking down both of them!
Yi An’an was stunned. Only then did she notice that her scarf was now tied over the man’s face. His eyes gleamed with sharpness—completely different from the dazed, dull men in the pigsty.
After knocking out all three men, Zhan Nan Hui calmly walked over, picked up the basket, took Yi An’an’s hand, and walked away coolly.
Earlier, Yi An’an had covered her face at the door and didn’t dare look back when leaving, afraid her face would be seen.
The last bus had already left. Zhan Nan Hui carried the basket and walked ahead while Yi An’an followed behind, the two of them walking along the dirt road back to the village.
Night gradually fell, and the temperature dropped. Yi An’an was still shaken and, with the rough terrain and her naturally weak body, began to cough lightly.
Zhan Nan Hui looked back at her, scanned the area, then said, “I know there’s an air-raid shelter nearby. Let’s hide the books there first.”
Yi An’an assumed he was tired from carrying the basket and nodded quickly.
Those books could still fetch over a hundred yuan, but under the circumstances, survival came first.
Her makeshift shelter wasn’t safe either. Bringing the books back would be like carrying a time bomb.
Zhan Nan Hui told Yi An’an to wait, then walked toward a nearby slope. After a while, he returned, walked up to her, and bent down with his back facing her. He said calmly, “Get on.”
Yi An’an hesitated, looking at his strong back, but eventually lay against him.
He hooked her legs with his arms and lifted her up.
Yi An’an hadn’t realized how strong and tall he was until now—being carried on his back felt like she was just a ragdoll. And he didn’t even slow down—his steps were fast and steady.
The countryside paths were hard to walk at night, and with his fast pace, Yi An’an couldn’t help but wrap her arms tighter around his neck, her body pressed against his, her cheek resting on his shoulder, her warm breath brushing his sensitive earlobe.
When she lay against his back, he immediately felt the softness of her body. He tried to walk faster to distract himself with the uneven terrain, anything to stop his mind from wandering.
But all his efforts were in vain the moment she hugged his neck tightly.
His breathing grew unsteady. Her breath, like feathers, teased his neck and earlobe, making him feel ticklish… and something stirred deep within him.
He was careful not to touch her bottom, so he kept his hands supporting her thighs. Even then, his hands began to tremble slightly—her legs were so soft…
Letting out a breath, he suddenly set Yi An’an down.
She was caught off guard. When her feet touched the ground, she hadn’t yet let go of his neck and accidentally pulled Zhan Nan Hui down with her.
Afraid she’d get hurt, he instinctively turned his body, caught the back of her head with one hand, protecting her from hitting the ground—but ended up landing right on top of her.
Yi An’an stared wide-eyed at the man above her. Their faces were so close she could smell the faint scent on his body.
Looks like he had bathed and dressed up before going out. But for what?
Trying to confirm her suspicion, she leaned toward his neck, her lips brushing his cheek.
Zhan Nan Hui froze, quickly pulling back—and let out a low groan without meaning to.
He raised his hand from behind her head. The back of it had been cut by a sharp stone, and blood was trickling out.
Under the moonlight, Yi An’an saw the wound and asked in a low voice, “Does it hurt?”
He shook his head and quickly stood up, his ears burning red. Glancing at the nearby Yan family village, he said quietly, “We’re almost there. Can you walk?”
Yi An’an nodded.
So he walked ahead again, but it was clear he was adjusting his pace to match hers.
Yi An’an looked up at the bright moon, then at the man leading the way—tall and upright. Such a shame that his “white moonlight” (first love) was someone like Chen Sisi.
When they finally returned to the shelter, Yi An’an felt like her legs weren’t hers anymore. She flopped onto the bed, panting heavily.
Zhan Nan Hui changed clothes and lay down too, turning his back to her.
Yi An’an glanced at his now gray clothes, then thought of his outfit earlier. She scooted closer and asked in a low voice, “How did you know I was at that school? Tell me—do you have some unspeakable secret?”
Zhan Nan Hui’s eyes twitched. Suddenly, he turned around, grabbed her arm, pulled her to his chest, and stared at her with a cold smile: “Yeah, you’ve uncovered my secret. So should I rape you first… then kill you?”
