Chapter 13: Meeting Again
At the entrance stood a middle-aged woman.
As soon as Shen Chujin came out, she respectfully bowed slightly.
“Young Madam, the Old Madam has been waiting inside for quite some time. Please follow me.”
“Thank you.”
Shen Chujin followed her inside.
The estate covered a large area. Just upon entering, there was a garden filled with all kinds of rare and exquisite flowers, along with pavilions, rockeries, and springs…
It was grand yet elegant, delicate but thoughtfully designed.
It was clear the owner was someone who truly understood life and had a refined taste.
Following the main path through the garden, they finally arrived in front of a luxurious villa.
Inside, an elderly lady dressed in a traditional Chinese qipao was sitting on the sofa.
She had a very good demeanor, although she was elderly, she still looked very spirited.
At this moment, she was focused on a tablet on the tea table, watching a TV drama.
She laughed heartily as she watched.
“Hahaha, this is so over the top.”
“Old Madam, the Young Madam has arrived,” reminded the housekeeper, Aunt Wang, at the right moment.
The elderly lady immediately looked up and kindly waved at Shen Chujin, “Jin’er, come here quickly.”
Shen Chujin walked over and sat beside her.
The elderly lady held her hand, “That brat Shi Yi said he has another meeting, and after that, he’ll come over. Let’s not bother him. Come, watch some TV with Grandma for a while. This show has been really popular lately…”
The old lady liked Shen Chujin very much and kept talking to her non-stop.
“Our family isn’t big. Besides this old lady, Shi Yi only has one younger sister. That girl went traveling with her classmates, so she probably won’t be back for a while. Today, it’s just the three of us having a simple meal.”
That day, she went out shopping.
Not long after leaving Donglingyuan, the car broke down.
After the driver contacted the repair shop to tow the car away, he went home to get another car.
She stayed where she was, waiting.
Unexpectedly, a few young men with dyed yellow hair saw her wearing expensive-looking clothes and tried to snatch her bag and jewelry.
People nearby saw what was happening but coldly looked on without helping.
In the end, her belongings were stolen, and she was pushed to the ground.
At her age, she couldn’t handle the fall.
At that moment, she felt like she could barely breathe.
Her phone was gone too, so she couldn’t contact anyone.
In her despair, a few figures suddenly fell beside her.
They were the same young men who had just robbed her!
They groaned and rolled on the ground in pain.
At that moment, a slender arm reached out to her.
Instantly, she felt her breathing ease considerably.
Looking up, she saw a very pretty young girl.
The girl was righteous and kind-hearted—she called the police and took her to the hospital.
This was a sharp contrast to those cold, indifferent bystanders.
Although she understood that in today’s society, the bystanders’ behavior was somewhat understandable, lying on the cold, hard ground back then, she really felt desperate and disheartened.
When she learned that Shen Chujin was still single, she felt this girl was the perfect choice as a granddaughter-in-law sent by heaven.
After expressing her thoughts, she was surprised that the other party agreed without hesitation.
Overjoyed, she quickly contacted her grandson to finalize the matter.
There was no need to build feelings first—people in their generation all handled things like this.
Besides, from her perspective, her grandson and this granddaughter-in-law were truly a perfect match.
She had never been wrong about judging people.
At seven o’clock,
a tall figure walked in exactly on time.
By then, the table was already filled with various delicious dishes—a big, full spread.
As Shi Yi entered the room, he saw an elderly woman and a young woman happily chatting on the sofa.
To be precise, the elder was speaking while the younger was listening.
However, the atmosphere was strangely harmonious.
From Shi Yi’s point of view, he saw Shen Chujin’s delicate profile, like a calm lake reflected by the morning glow, evoking a sense of comfort and peace.
Although she wore no makeup, her features were soft and graceful, as if carefully sculpted by heaven.
Shi Yi paused for a moment, and a sudden feeling of tranquility settled in his heart.
He shook his head to shake off this unusual emotion, then stepped toward the two.
“Grandma.”
He called out.
The elderly woman finally looked up at him.
Shen Chujin also slowly raised her head.
Their eyes suddenly met.
She slightly frowned.
It seemed he… was in trouble.
Sure enough, the next second Shi Yi’s phone rang.
“Sorry.”
He said, then answered the call and walked aside.
A minute later, he came back.
“Grandma, there’s an emergency at the company. I need to rush over to handle it now.”
“Why does it have to be you now? Can’t someone else go?” the elderly woman frowned.
Shi Yi shook his head. “No one else can solve this.”
“This…”
The elderly woman, who had single-handedly supported the Shi family in earlier years, naturally knew how complicated company matters could be.
As the company’s CEO, he had many responsibilities he couldn’t avoid.
Even a small accident could put the entire company in danger, especially a large family business like the Shi’s, which required utmost care.
From Shi Yi’s expression, it was clear this was not a simple accident that could be easily resolved.
Although she understood everything, she still felt somewhat sorry toward Shen Chujin.
She knew her grandson wasn’t very happy about this marriage, and since he and Shen Chujin weren’t living together yet, she wanted to find more opportunities to bring them closer.
But before they even had their first meal together, her grandson was already leaving.
She worried Shen Chujin might overthink it and feel wronged.
“Let him go,”
Unexpectedly, Shen Chujin spoke first.
This not only made the elderly woman feel that Shen Chujin was sensible but also made her like her even more, and even Shi Yi couldn’t help but glance at her a couple of times.
“Go, go, go, hurry up, don’t stay here and be an eyesore.”
The elderly woman waved dismissively at Shi Yi, then pulled Shen Chujin to sit and kept putting food into her bowl.
Shi Yi nodded to Shen Chujin before leaving.
“Is the young madam here?”
Just as Shen Chujin and the elderly woman were eating, a hurried voice broke the peaceful atmosphere in the room.
“What’s the matter, Old Zhong? The young madam is having dinner with the old madam. Don’t disturb them unless it’s urgent,” the housekeeper Aunt Wang stopped the driver Zhong Gui at the door.
Zhong Gui looked anxious. “Please let me in quickly. I really have an emergency to tell the young madam!”
No sooner had he spoken than he saw Shen Chujin at the door.
He immediately dropped to his knees.
“Help me, young madam!”
Seeing this, the elderly woman and Aunt Wang were both stunned.
Zhong Gui was the Shi family’s driver, usually a calm person.
They had never seen him so panicked before.
Most importantly, why was he asking Shen Chujin for help?
After all, Shen Chujin was just a young woman in her early twenties—how could she possibly help him?
