Chapter 67: Your Movements Are Very Unstandard
Shen Suyong only said one good thing for Xie Yunshu, then quickly exhaled lightly: “If Secretary Jiang has a better solution, naturally that would be best. Delivering meals personally is still unstable and has certain safety and hygiene issues.”
Everything must prioritize the bigger picture. Although Comrade Xie Yunshu has a hard time personally, the overall situation still comes first…
Secretary Jiang changed his tone: “What I mean is to build a simple canteen, like the canteens in schools and factories. Since this female comrade who delivers meals cooks well, let her cook.”
He didn’t elaborate too much on this—how the canteen would be contracted, or to whom—but naturally, Tian Hao and Shen Suyong would handle that. This solution would not only solve the meal problem for the workers and the project team, but also address the unfairness issues raised by those few female comrades.
Everyone would get a food allowance—one yuan per meal—and would go to the canteen to get their food. If the money wasn’t enough, they could pay the difference themselves; if they didn’t finish, the leftover belonged to them. This would also save the hassle of having someone deliver meals every day.
Moreover, the land in the south is a big project; relying on outsiders to deliver meals every day was never a long-term plan.
Shen Suyong’s first thought was that Xie Yunshu wouldn’t be unemployed anymore and could even earn more, but then she quickly pushed that thought away. Whether or not she would be awarded the canteen contract would still require a trial!
Upstairs, resting, Xie Yunshu was still unaware that during just one meal time, she had experienced unemployment and then reemployment…
Inside the office, it was quite warm. Listening to the rain and wind outside, she felt a bit sleepy. She hadn’t slept well all night. After the divorce, she hadn’t had time to process her emotions and immediately had to deal with Granny Zhang’s illness. The next day was busy, and now, she finally felt a sense of freedom.
Not just freedom from divorce, but freedom of body and mind in the truest sense. She no longer bound herself with love that was belittling. No matter how fierce the storm outside, it couldn’t stop someone who wanted to spread their wings and fly.
But right now, she was really sleepy…
Her eyelids were heavy and wouldn’t lift. Xie Yunshu quickly pinched herself, telling herself she couldn’t sleep. As a meal delivery person, resting in someone’s office was already very generous; if she were careless enough to sleep here, how could she explain it?
But she was so tired…
Taking a deep breath, she stood up and continued doing calisthenics in place. While moving, she gave herself a pep talk: “One, two, three, four; two, two, three, four. No sleeping, no money if you sleep…”
Just as Shen Suyong opened the door, she was doing the sixth exercise—twisting her body. When she turned around, their eyes met in silence for a moment…
Xie Yunshu was instantly embarrassed. Even her thick skin, built up from doing business these days, turned a little red. She awkwardly put down her hands: “Um…”
What she didn’t expect was that Shen Suyong didn’t mock her but instead frowned seriously and said earnestly: “Your movements are very unstandard, your whole body weak and without strength. Your twisting motion isn’t wide enough, and your arm swings lack power. Didn’t you study seriously when you were in school?”
She was once the class monitor! If she hadn’t dropped out to work in the packaging factory, she would definitely be a university student now. Xie Yunshu was confident in herself and, feeling a bit indignant, retorted: “I studied very well.”
“But your movements are still very unstandard,” Shen Suyong said calmly, leaving her speechless.
She just didn’t want to fall asleep and wanted to move around. She wasn’t seriously doing calisthenics. Why did this guy treat it like training soldiers and critique her?
“Captain Shen, you’re meticulous with your work, I really admire that,” Xie Yunshu flattered hypocritically. Given her temper, she would usually snap back, but under someone’s roof, she had to keep her head down—especially since he helped her yesterday.
He didn’t hear any sarcasm in that compliment. Shen Suyong gave her a cool glance and pointed outside the window: “The rain has stopped. If you want to leave, better hurry.”
Looking out the window, the heavy rain had indeed stopped, but the wind was stronger, and a faint whistling sound could be heard. She wondered how Granny Zhang was doing now.
“Okay, I’m going now.” Rubbing her face, Xie Yunshu perked up and sincerely thanked Shen Suyong: “Thank you for providing me a place to rest.”
Shen Suyong’s brows knitted lightly. Seeing that her hair was still damp and even the hat she brought was wet, he took a cotton military cap from a nearby cabinet: “Wear this first. Your hat is too wet. Also, remember to drink ginger soup when you get back.”
Xie Yunshu felt a warmth in her heart. Words are never as good as deeds. Although cold on the outside, Shen Suyong’s heart was warm. He was a good person.
Having received a “good person” card, Shen Suyong added: “Don’t let a cold delay your meal delivery work. There are only three days left before the site closes for the holiday. Don’t let any accidents happen, or it will affect the cooperation next season. Remember, this job will always have competitors.”
Especially after the canteen opens, he wouldn’t simply hand over the contract to her. It must pass organizational assessments and get the approval of all workers. There might even be individual restaurant owners competing. Compared to them, Xie Yunshu’s competitiveness was not strong.
Her only edge was rain-or-shine meal delivery, and insisting on winning everyone’s support with the best food.
Xie Yunshu smiled bitterly, her warm heart suddenly chilled halfway. Indeed, she shouldn’t have thought Captain Shen was a warm guy. He was an ice cube. But with the warm hat in her hands, at least she felt genuinely warm.
“Thanks for the hat, I’ll wash it and bring it again tomorrow.”
She smiled at him, put on the thick cotton military hat, and just before leaving, turned and winked: “Captain Shen, next time when you talk to other girls, just say half a sentence. The rest you can leave unsaid. Of course, it doesn’t matter with me…”
She hadn’t seen any women around Shen Suyong these days. Last time, she overheard Manager Tian call him a bachelor, so he probably had no girlfriend.
If Captain Shen stopped talking so much and smiled more, who knows how many girls would like him? But unfortunately, he had a mouth that couldn’t stop talking, and never in a tactful way…
Reminding him was her way of returning the favor for the military hat.
