Chapter 21: Has the superpower also become abnormal?
Xie Yu’s gaze swept across her face and seeing no trace of forced smiles, he finally nodded.
“Alright, I promise you.”
Outside, the rain drizzled down gently, pattering crisply and rhythmically against the eaves. Inside the room, the kerosene lamp flickered, casting dancing shadows across their faces. The small room had an inexplicable warmth to it. Because Chang Suisui sat so close, Xie Yu could even catch a faint floral scent from her. He remembered this fragrance — it was like osmanthus soaked in orange soda, sweet and refreshing. He had been deeply enveloped by this scent before; how could he ever forget it?
Xie Yu’s eyelids slowly lowered, the possessiveness in his eyes fading into the dark night. He stopped looking at Chang Suisui’s delicate face and instead started eating the dinner she had brought.
When Xie Yu was in the army, these two steamed buns wouldn’t even be enough to fill his teeth. But since returning to the village, his meals were taken care of by his eldest brother’s family. Usually, when he was home, his sister-in-law would have dinner delivered. However, if his eldest brother was busy in the village and couldn’t come home, then Xie Yu’s dinner was uncertain. Sometimes, Xie Liye would leave half of his own rations for him, but since he was still a half-grown kid, Xie Yu felt bad letting the child go hungry, so he gradually ended up eating very little in the evenings.
Seeing Xie Yu finish eating in just a few bites, Chang Suisui casually took out the silver needles for acupuncture. Seeing that Xie Yu had already accepted it calmly, she suddenly felt a playful urge to tease him a bit.
“Ahem, Comrade Xie, take off your pants.”
As soon as she said this, the next room instantly made a crashing noise, especially loud on the quiet rainy night.
Xie Yu stiffened slightly, a flicker of panic flashing in his eyes, but he still tried to sound casual.
“Ahem, uh… probably too many rats next door. I’ll have Liye bring some rat poison tomorrow…”
He uttered this unconvincing lie, avoiding Chang Suisui’s eyes completely, his body leaning slightly forward as if trying to hide his nervousness.
Chang Suisui’s eyes glinted mischievously at his words, a teasing smile tugging at the corners of her mouth.
“Oh? Then it really is time to get rid of the rats, making such a fuss.”
“Yeah.” Xie Yu still sat somewhat stiffly, the tips of his ears flushed red from the lie just told.
Suppressing her laughter, Chang Suisui gently patted the male lead’s back.
“Alright, no problem now. Take off your pants and lie on the bed. I’ll massage the acupuncture points on the back of your legs.”
Xie Yu’s cheeks blushed, but it wasn’t too obvious in the dim light. He opened his mouth, wanting to ask if he could leave his pants on. But then he remembered that his pants were actually long shorts that reached almost to his knees, so maybe… it wasn’t that bad to take them off. Besides, the last few acupuncture sessions only required rolling up his pant legs, so why this time did he have to take off his pants entirely?
He hesitated for a moment but eventually obediently lay down on the bed, his body tense and clearly nervous.
Seeing this, Chang Suisui raised her hand and gently pressed on several acupuncture points behind his legs.
“Comrade Xie, relax. It’s just acupuncture. I’m not going to do anything else…”
Xie Yu’s face flushed completely red. He turned on his side and grabbed Chang Suisui’s wrist.
“Just go ahead. That just now… felt a bit ticklish.”
Thanks to Chang Suisui’s acupuncture over the past few days, Xie Yu’s leg had regained some sensation. Her hands pressing on his leg didn’t really cause much feeling, but having a female colleague touch his leg still felt a little strange.
Chang Suisui noticed the adorable redness at the tips of his ears and really wanted to reach out and touch them, but she was afraid of teasing him too much and scaring him away. That wouldn’t be fun at all.
She nodded lightly and got up, climbing onto the bed. Just as she was about to squat down, she felt the entire bed shake.
Her heart jumped, and she tried to find a safe spot to avoid, but Xie Yu suddenly grabbed her and pulled her close, shielding her tightly.
Crack!
Bang bang!
The crisp sounds rang out in the room, followed by a cloud of dust. Chang Suisui then looked up to see the bed beneath them had collapsed. She glanced at the cracked bed frame and wondered how Xie Yu had been sleeping on a bed missing a piece of its headboard.
She was about to say something to him when she suddenly noticed a muffled sound coming from her arms. Only then did she realize that in the moment of danger, she had been tightly holding Xie Yu, pressing his head against her chest.
Well… she had given him the strongest possible cushion.
“…”
“…”
For a while, an awkward atmosphere filled the room. Only the rain outside continued to drizzle softly, its sound like a gentle tapping on both their hearts.
“Chang… Chang Zhiqing, I’m sorry for just now, I…”
Finally, Xie Yu broke the silence. He had instinctively protected Chang Suisui but hadn’t expected to protect the wrong part.
Chang Suisui waved her hands repeatedly,
“No, no, it was a special situation!”
“…”
“…”
Silence returned to the room once again.
Chang Suisui pressed her lips together and was about to speak when she suddenly noticed her previously slow-growing supernatural power had surged significantly!
Her pupils trembled slightly as her gaze shifted to Xie Yu, still sitting on the collapsed bed frame.
Last time her power suddenly surged was also related to Xie Yu.
Chang Suisui narrowed her eyes, recalling that it happened when they were… well, doing “that” kind of thing.
She thought again about what had just happened. Could it be that only close contact with Xie Yu could rapidly increase her power?
She squinted, though she hadn’t fully confirmed this idea yet. Because she also had contact with Xie Yu yesterday, though not as directly as being held in his arms like now, but… when she did acupuncture on him, there was also skin contact. However, that didn’t cause a quick surge in her power.
Chang Suisui raised an eyebrow, clearly deep in thought.
She knew the best way now was to hold Xie Yu tightly and give him a few good kisses.
But if it wasn’t the case, that would just be her being a troublemaker.
If it was true, Chang Suisui’s watery eyes narrowed sharply. Was this because she had entered the story and her powers had become abnormal?
Xie Yu, feeling the intense gaze from Chang Suisui, shivered and spoke up,
“Chang Zhiqing, maybe… let’s skip acupuncture for today?”
He glanced at the collapsed bed frame and the cracked part he had broken, a trace of discomfort flashing in his eyes.
“How can I? Treatment can’t be stopped for even a day!”
She still hadn’t figured out how her powers were charging so fast, so there was no way she could just give up!
