Chapter 49 Forgive me? Do you think you deserve it?!
“Chang Suisui, as long as you behave like before, I can forgive you. But from now on, you have to keep listening to me.” Zhao Hang’s expression was full of smugness. Especially when he noticed other educated youths watching, his confidence swelled even more. He was a hundred percent sure Chang Suisui would go along with the excuse he was giving her to back down. After all, she had always been obedient and compliant. If it hadn’t been for the big mess with Chang Meili, she would never have turned against him.
Thinking this, his eyes couldn’t help but sweep over Chang Suisui’s figure. She was pretty, no doubt, but too stiff. Even though she was his fiancée, she was always working hard and enduring everything, yet she resisted him particularly when it came to intimacy. Who would believe they were engaged and he hadn’t even touched her hand?
This time, once she admitted fault and came crawling back, he was definitely going to get what he wanted. Women—once they gave their bodies to a man—would know to submit. Even if he had to force her, so what? Once the deed was done, she’d fall in line.
Everyone around watched Zhao Hang’s self-satisfied posture and couldn’t help but look at Chang Suisui with a trace of sympathy. They all knew she was originally Zhao Hang’s fiancée when they first came to the village. But Zhao had always been closer to her cousin, Chang Meili, while Suisui bore everything silently. People had pitied her.
These past couple of days, when she suddenly began standing up for herself, everyone had been surprised. But now, seeing Zhao Hang acting like this, was she really going to forgive this scumbag?
Chang Suisui, of course, sensed the strange glances around her—especially Zhao Hang’s disgusting look. Without hesitation, she lifted the porcelain basin in her hand and smashed it right into Zhao Hang’s face.
BANG! A loud crash echoed, followed by Zhao Hang’s pig-like scream.
“Forgive you? Who the hell do you think you are?!” Chang Suisui swung the basin again at Zhao Hang with a loud clang clang.
“Let me tell you, Zhao Hang, I already broke off the engagement with you!”
“Pah! You scumbag! Don’t come near me!”
Maybe it was the memory of the last time she whipped him with a willow branch—Zhao Hang curled up on the ground, shielding his head. The sight was downright ridiculous.
Even those who were planning to step in and break it up couldn’t help but burst out laughing. Li Chunhua and Zhang Fen, who were worried she might be bullied and were ready to help, were completely stunned.
You know what? Really, just wow.
Educated Youth Chang lived up to her name. Whoever crossed her—man or woman—got the same treatment: a beating.
Li Chunhua thought of the time she had angered Chang Suisui and only got slapped twice. Now she realized how merciful that had been. Clearly, Suisui had treated her like a friend. She must not let her down again!
Everyone was thinking different things, but none of them thought to rescue the battered Zhao Hang. Not until—
Chang Suisui got tired.
She tossed her tied-up hair back over her shoulder and finally put the basin down. As expected, her current body was still too weak. If this had been her old self… Hah! She would’ve beaten the crap out of him! Literally!
Looking at the dents on the basin, her brow creased in dissatisfaction. She threw the basin on the ground and held out her hand toward Zhao Hang. “Pay me!”
Zhao Hang, who had been beaten senseless, thought he was hallucinating. He couldn’t understand how the woman who had just acted like she was going to kill him now wanted him to pay her? Was she insane?
He looked at her outstretched hand and was just about to grab it when her expression changed into a fierce glare that said, Touch my hand and you die.
She clearly saw where his dirty mind had gone. Chin raised, she gestured at the broken basin. “Money! Pay for my basin!”
Zhao Hang: “…”
Was there no justice left in this world?
This woman beat him with the basin and then demanded he pay for it? Zhao Hang wanted to be defiant, but one look at Suisui’s “Say no and I’ll kill you” face, and he chose to avoid further disaster.
He handed over “compensation,” then ran straight out of the educated youth dorm, not even bothering with breakfast.
After such humiliation, there was no way he could stay in the dormitory any longer. This was already the second time Chang Suisui had beaten him! That wretched woman dared treat him like this?! Thank God he hadn’t chosen her but picked Chang Meili instead. If he had married her, she might have killed him by now!
“Zhao Zhiqing…”
As Zhao Hang walked toward the cowshed, someone blocked his path on a narrow trail. He frowned, then saw it was Xie Xiaohua.
Unlike the night before, she was now dressed in a faded, ill-fitting coarse outfit and had wrapped her head in a purple scarf. Her disguise was poor.
Zhao Hang frowned and asked, “Comrade Xie, what do you want?”
Xie Xiaohua smiled indifferently, a flicker of malice in her eyes. “Zhao Zhiqing, I’m guessing you went to see my mother yesterday because you had some idea for dealing with Chang Suisui, right?”
Zhao Hang’s eyes flashed with something complicated but quickly returned to calm. He had gone to see Zhao Xiulan yesterday, but it was just to scare Chang Suisui a little. Now though… he had changed his mind.
Since that woman refused to marry him, he’d destroy her!
Having been utterly humiliated, he couldn’t wait to bring her down. So Xie Xiaohua showing up now was perfect timing. He nodded and smirked coldly. “That’s right. I’ve got a pretty good idea—but I need someone to cooperate with me.”
Zhao Hang’s delicate scholar-like face, paired with his flowery words and eerily soft tone, made his words sound almost seductive. Xie Xiaohua couldn’t help but ask, “What kind of cooperation?”
Zhao Hang saw she had taken the bait and smiled in satisfaction. “Chang Suisui acts all high and mighty in the village because the people here are too kind. But the gangsters in town—they won’t be so polite…”
Xie Xiaohua nodded gravely, though she still didn’t quite understand what Zhao Hang meant. She frowned and looked at him. “So, what exactly are we going to do?”
Zhao Hang nearly lost his composure. He had spelled it out so clearly, and she still didn’t get it?
Annoyed, he gave the idiot beside him a glance, then reluctantly began explaining, “We can wait until Chang Suisui goes to town and find some thugs…”
He paused deliberately at that point.
