Don’t be fooled by the little girl’s young age—her heart is really dark.
The people on the 8th and 12th floors were her schoolmates, yet she stomped on that woman’s ribs until they broke and even cut her hair. The man had it even worse—after being bitten by a dog, he was stabbed with a knife and had to be carried to the hospital that morning.
No one can afford to provoke her—really can’t!
He Zhi’an’s team had just returned, looking disheveled and dusty, but they only brought back some firewood. Every place they could search had already been ransacked. Even moldy bread had all been taken.
Looking at the relatively abundant haul on the 18th floor, they could only sigh in envy. How could the difference be so big when it’s the same building?
As soon as they arrived at the 18th floor, Kele (the dog) rushed out from apartment 1803, jumping all over Jiang Ning, whining nonstop.
“You promised not to abandon me, didn’t you? Are you lying to your dog?”
Dou Dou also came over, happily hugging her waist tightly. “Sister, Kele and I were very good today.”
Jiang Ning could only laugh and cry at the same time. She was about to say something about the little quilt from 1801 protecting against the wind, but then Dou Dou suddenly dashed toward 1801. “Brother, Dou Dou really misses you.”
The old rule still applies: everyone gathers at 1803 to share the spoils.
When they found out they had brought back a whole pig, Zheng Weili was excited but also worried: “The fridge isn’t working, how do we preserve the pork?”
Half a pig is a lot; they definitely couldn’t finish it in a few days. It would be a waste if it went bad.
Someone from 1801 surprised everyone by saying, “I have a car fridge at home that uses a USB port. The meat should just fit inside. The only problem is the weak light and slow, intermittent charging, but it can barely hold on.”
A car fridge? Jiang Ning remembered she had collected several in her space before.
She quickly added, “The landlord seems to have one too. I’ll check his room later.”
The storage problem was solved, but the pork at 1803 couldn’t just be left to rot. Zhang Chao suggested, “Why don’t you two just eat what we have here first?”
Jiang Ning had no objections, but still, it wouldn’t be finished in a few days. “You guys cut the fat into pieces and fry it to make lard. We’re having hot pot tonight. If there’s leftover pork, we’ll salt it to preserve it.”
With rainy and cool weather, it could last a few days.
Zhang Chao was drooling. “Are we not eating lunch then?”
“You guys eat on your own. I need to go out again to see if I can get some dog food for Kele.”
Lu Yu kindly offered, “Should we come with you?”
“No need, you handle the half pig.”
Afraid that these city idiots wouldn’t know how to fry lard properly, Jiang Ning warned, “Cut the pig skin separately. Don’t fry it with the fat. Be careful, or it’ll splatter hot oil…”
Huo Yishen didn’t know either but quietly observed nearby to learn.
Back home, Jiang Ning grabbed a portion of fish-flavored shredded pork to fill her stomach and treated Kele’s wounds before planning to head out.
Kele bit her pant leg, as if asking, “Are you abandoning me again?”
Jiang Ning stroked his head. “You behave and guard the house. I’m going to get us some meat supplies.”
The pig had floated downstream with the current. She remembered there was a large pig farm upstream. If it really came from there, then there must be more pigs.
There are several connected mountains upstream where the pigs might have swum to take shelter.
She didn’t have much pork stored in her space and now had to feed Kele too, so Jiang Ning wanted to try her luck.
She hoped to go quickly and return quickly, but Kele stubbornly refused to be left behind.
Jiang Ning had no choice but to bring him along. After all, when it came to hunting, dogs were far better than humans.
Kele didn’t have a raincoat, so she took a plastic bag, cut some holes, and slipped it over his head…
Uh, the look was painfully ugly.
Suppressing a laugh, Jiang Ning took a photo of her dog wrapped in a plastic battle suit.
One person and one dog set out, driving the speedboat toward Fengshan.
Fengshan’s elevation was not high. At the foot of the mountain was Fengcheng Park with large lakes and scenic spots—all unfortunately submerged underwater now.
They found a gentle spot to dock. With no one around, Jiang Ning stored the speedboat in her space.
There were stone steps and a cement path up the mountain. To save energy, Jiang Ning decisively chose the cement path, keeping an eye on both sides of the road while walking uphill.
In the bushes along the roadside, she faintly spotted pig droppings not washed away by the rain.
Jiang Ning was secretly pleased; she hadn’t guessed wrong.
As they walked, Kele suddenly barked and tried to rush forward.
Jiang Ning covered his mouth. “We sneak into the village quietly. No shooting, okay?”
Kele immediately understood, switched to silent mode, tucked his tail, and stealthily advanced with sharp, cautious eyes.
Not far ahead appeared a pavilion.
Using binoculars, Jiang Ning saw twelve pigs sheltering from the rain inside.
Pigs are omnivores and can survive on grass, but these must have been washed downstream for a while. They had lost all their fat.
Seeing someone approach, they wanted to leave but were too lazy to move after a few snorts.
Since the space couldn’t store live animals, Jiang Ning took out her highest-powered stun baton—one that could even kill with enough shocks.
She entered the pavilion and targeted the closest pig.
The pig didn’t have time to squeal before collapsing with a thud.
The frightened pigs scattered from the pavilion.
Kele dashed forward like lightning, fiercely herding them back. The disobedient ones got bitten!
Human, dog, and pigs engaged in a chase battle in the rain…
She chased, he blocked, and the pigs couldn’t escape.
In less than fifteen minutes, all twelve pigs were stunned. Jiang Ning gave a few extra shocks to make sure they were dead before storing them in her space.
Unexpectedly, Kele turned out to be a great hunting dog and earned a reward: a salt-baked chicken leg.
“Kele, let’s keep it up and stockpile all the pork we need in this lifetime. We’ll eat well every day from now on.”
“Woof!” He wants meat!
One person and one dog continued searching along the mountain terrain.
Kele fully played his advantage, leading the way in search of prey.
Pigs are social animals, and with Kele’s help, Jiang Ning soon found a second group—nine pigs about the same size as before.
One chased, one flanked, dashing through the bushes.
The mountain wasn’t steep, but the slippery ground made running tricky.
People slipped, pigs slipped, but the dog was agile and skillfully drove them toward Jiang Ning.
All nine pigs were captured again.
With twenty-one pigs in total, Jiang Ning walked with a breeze.
They found a third and fourth group and also killed several stragglers, totaling sixty-eight pigs. That would yield over ten thousand jin (about 5,000 kg) of pork.
After searching Fengshan twice, no more pigs were found.
It was already evening as Jiang Ning headed down the mountain with Kele.
Suddenly, the dog shot out like an arrow and quickly disappeared into the bushes.
Jiang Ning worried for his safety and hurried after him.
When she arrived, she saw Kele fiercely digging into the dirt with his paws, barking aggressively, eyes full of killing intent…
