Release the Female Lead, Leave Her to Me
Release the Female Lead Ch. 988

Chapter 988: Playing the Weakling is an Art

Qian Duoduo glared at Ye Wenxin, thinking she was nothing more than a Celestial Master of many tricks. The others looked confused, and more than a few seemed disappointed by her actions.

In truth, Ye Wenxin had only meant to have the Secret Guard summon Xiao Zhang. She hadn’t expected to draw so much attention.

“Hehehe, so this is the best Treasure Pavilion could come up with? I thought you called in powerful reinforcements, not a little girl.” Black Panther sneered at them, his jeering centered on Ye Wenxin.

The storyteller felt something wasn’t right with this. No matter how low-profile Ye Wenxin had been, someone like the pavilion’s boss should’ve recognized her. Yet, this man continued to ridicule her even after seeing her face.

He didn’t dare say anything, just kept his eyes locked on Ye Wenxin, waiting for her next move. But the others had already run out of patience. Using Black Panther’s insult to Ye Wenxin as an excuse, the two sides clashed.

The scene instantly turned into a bedlam. Although the authorities were present, they could only watch helplessly. The two sides fought more and more fiercely. Sighing, Ye Wenxin grabbed a Secret Guard and showed him her token.

The Secret Guard immediately left. Ye Wenxin silently returned to the crowd, intending to feign injury to get through the long wait.

Unfortunately, there were always people who liked to bully the weak.

Ye Wenxin shot out silver needles, knocking out two Secret Guards. Acting like she was exhausted, she glanced around and saw Han Shanxue.

Perhaps because Tundra Demesne was too overbearing, Han Shanxue was using techniques from other manuals. Her movements were elegant and clean, her figure ghostlike.

Ye Wenxin carefully counted.

Han Shanxue utilized four different techniques in that one moment.

She subdued a Secret Guard one level higher than her with a few short moves, her clothes spotless, floating almost magically.

After taking one down, Han Shanxue quietly moved toward the next.

Three down, four down…

The Secret Guards began to panic, likely not expecting the Treasure Pavilion to have a strange expert under their employ. A woman in light yellow clothing appeared as Han Shanxue was about to defeat the fifth Secret Guard. She pulled the Secret Guard back, blocking Han Shanxue’s strike.

The two stepped away a few paces, looking at each other, eyes full of killing intent.

It wasn’t Xiao Zhang. Yet, Ye Wenxin realized, to her surprise, that she knew this woman.

“Steward Huang, you’re just in time. These people are causing trouble on our turf.” Black Panther stepped forward, cupping his fist toward the woman surnamed Huang.

Her once pure and beautiful face now carried imposing valiance after two years of gaining experience. Calm and composure had replaced the timid look in her eyes.

This woman was Huang Hanyan, Ye Wenxin’s runaway disciple. But later, due to too much involvement with Ye Wenxin, Huang Hanyan’s golden luck disappeared, turning her from a female lead into an ordinary woman.

Hence, Ye Wenxin had kept some distance from her, hoping Huang Hanyan could regain her luck.

Ye Wenxin checked her luck and sighed. It was still plain white.

However, Huang Hanyan’s cultivation had progressed rapidly. With the sword Ye Wenxin had obtained from Shura Hall and given to her, she forged her own fortune.

Although Ye Wenxin didn’t know why she was here, Black Panther seemed to know her. Maybe talking to Huang Hanyan could stop the fight.

But Huang Hanyan didn’t seem to notice Ye Wenxin. She looked at Han Shanxue, her intent for battle ignited. The two stared at each other, both sensing a threat in the other.

Crisis breeds opportunity. Ye Wenxin realized that battling Han Shanxue might help Huang Hanyan become a female lead again.

Ye Wenxin stepped back a few more paces, only to bump into someone. That person wrapped their arms around her.

The familiar womanly scent made Ye Wenxin relax slightly. Sure enough, when she looked up, she saw Sister Hong’s worried eyes.

“Celestial Master Ye, you don’t need to push yourself too hard,” said Sister Hong. No matter how talented Ye Wenxin was, she was still just a fifteen-year-old child.

Ye Wenxin felt a bit embarrassed but didn’t explain. Instead, she focused on observing how things were unfolding.

Han Shanxue wasn’t using her full strength, while Huang Hanyan fought back with a technique Ye Wenxin didn’t recognize. But no matter what it was, she was no match for Han Shanxue.

Judging from their luck alone, the outcome was already clear to Ye Wenxin.

As expected, Han Shanxue wounded Huang Hanyan, forcing her to step back, her delicate brows furrowed. The storyteller looked anxious, repeatedly glancing at Ye Wenxin, wondering why she wasn’t helping.

When Ye Wenxin came to the Azure Wings Sect, the storyteller, Huang Hanyan, and Long Qing’er were the first people she met.

The storyteller obviously recognized Huang Hanyan, too. Even though they now stood on opposite sides, they were still disciples from the same sect.

Ye Wenxin made a hushing gesture. “Wait a bit longer.”

Wait? Miss Han is about to kill Senior Sister Huang!”

“She won’t. Everyone has their own fortune. Besides, my master doesn’t kill.” Ye Wenxin knew Han Shanxue didn’t have the heart to kill anyone, or she wouldn’t have felt so guilty for accidentally “killing” her future Dao partner.

Even if Han Shanxue went all out against Huang Hanyan, she would stop short of taking her life.

But Huang Hanyan’s battle spirit burned bright, and she began to use more hidden techniques. Han Shanxue also became noticeably more serious.

As Ye Wenxin observed Huang Hanyan, she suddenly noticed a change in the color around her.

Some people only bloomed under adversity, and Huang Hanyan was the type to grow stronger the more she fought. If she had stayed by Ye Wenxin’s side, Ye Wenxin could give her everything she desired. However, doing so would take away her chances to grow until she lost her female lead luck entirely.

Ye Wenxin felt excited to see that a single battle had brought back Huang Hanyan’s golden luck. After all, she was still her disciple, in a way.

As the fight between the two intensified, it only encouraged the others around them. Craters riddled the area. The fruit shop next door had smashed watermelons all over the ground, and the clothing store nearby had been reduced to ashes.

The two factions were evenly matched, fighting to the bitter end.

As Ye Wenxin wondered what was taking Xiao Zhang so long, a woman dressed in blue entered the scene.

“Sister-in-law!”

“Sister-in-law, you’re finally here.”

The newcomer was none other than Xiao Zhang. She wasn’t wearing her Secret Guard’s mask or a veil.
