Chapter 24: The Unresponsive God of Magic
Rein sneered at Harlin’s resolute words.
“Oh? Suicide? Now that you’re resorting to a Secret Realm opportunity to save your life, if you treasure your life, why would you kill yourself?”
“Otherwise, at least if I die, you’ll know nothing,” Harlin said, sitting on the ground and waiting for Rein’s decision.
He did not believe anyone could resist the lure of the Secret Realm.
Rein sat in the air with his legs crossed, watching Harlin in silence for a long moment before he finally spoke.
“How do I know whether what you’re saying is true or not?”
Harlin immediately swore an oath to the God of War.
“I, Harlin, swear to the God of War that if Rein promises to spare me and I speak a single lie to him within one day, my Battle Qi will reverse and kill me.”
In that moment, both of them sensed something in the unseen realm watching them.
They knew this was the mark that the oath had been sealed.
After swearing to the God of War, Harlin asked, “How about that?”
Rein nodded and glanced up at the sky.
“All right, I, Rein, swear before the God of Magic that Harlin will reveal everything he knows about the Secret Realm, and I will spare him and refrain from harming him; if I break this oath, my magic will dissipate and I will never progress an inch in my life.”
When Rein finally uttered the oath, a great weight lifted from Harlin’s heart.
“Young Master Rein, what about these shackles…” Harlin said obsequiously, relieved that his life had been spared.
Rein waved his hand.
“Why rush? First, is the location you just told me for Adele real?”
Rein’s words immediately made Harlin realize that he was verifying what Harlin had just said.
“Of course. Adele truly is there.”
Because of the oath’s binding power, Harlin dared not lie.
Hearing Harlin’s confident answer, Rein stepped down from his air ‘chair.’
He approached Harlin and said, “Lean in and whisper the details of the Secret Realm to me.”
Although Harlin was somewhat suspicious, he leaned into Rein’s ear and began quietly recounting his knowledge of the Secret Realm.
Those up in the sky were instantly left speechless.
Rein had just glanced skyward and had clearly sensed the three of them.
Although Brent and Fabian could use their Battle Qi to eavesdrop, Fude had prevented them from doing so.
“What do you think you’re doing? Must the two of you old fogeys eavesdrop on the affairs of the younger generation?”
The pair had no choice as they looked at Fude’s smug expression.
Who could blame them? Rein was just too crafty and was obviously on guard against them.
Harlin had indeed been captured by Rein, and the information about the Secret Realm had been extorted from him by Rein.
Morally and logically, the two of them should not have been eavesdropping.
Yet they still harbored a faint resentment in their hearts.
At that moment, Fude also realized that if it were an ordinary Secret Realm, House Gray could handle it entirely on its own.
But if it were some other type of Secret Realm, House Gray would indeed need to enlist a few allies to develop it jointly.
So he said, “All right; after Rein finishes questioning, if it’s just an ordinary Secret Realm, House Gray will handle it alone, but if it is another kind of Secret Realm, the three of our families will develop it together.”
Hearing this, Brent and Fabian both nodded.
They were eagerly anticipating that they could get a share of the spoils.
Before long, Harlin had told Rein all the details about the Secret Realm.
“Young Master Rein, I have told you everything I know; now you must release me, otherwise I cannot use my Battle Qi to transfer sovereignty over the Secret Realm key to you.”
After hearing Harlin’s account of the Secret Realm, Rein pulled a key from his Magic Ring and tossed it to Harlin.
Harlin hastily caught it and used the key to unlock the shackles binding him.
He then closed his eyes, and after a moment Harlin coughed up a mouthful of blood.
“There you have it, Young Master Rein. That Secret Realm key is now yours,” Harlin said, wiping blood from the corner of his mouth.
Rein produced the necklace that had been hanging around Harlin’s neck.
He squeezed a drop of his own blood from his fingertip onto the necklace.
Immediately, Rein felt a faint bond form between himself and the necklace.
Suddenly, related information about the Secret Realm emerged in his mind.
It matched more or less what Harlin had described.
“Very well, you may go,” Rein said, clasping the necklace around his own neck.
“Then I thank you, Young Master Rein, for your mercy in sparing me.”
Harlin gave a perfunctory bow to Rein.
He then walked toward the forest behind him.
Watching Harlin’s retreating figure, Rein looked up and said, “Father and uncles, stop hiding and come out.”
In an instant, Fude, Brent, and Fabian appeared before Rein.
Fude, his face filled with excitement, asked Rein, “Son, did Harlin tell you what kind of Secret Realm it is?”
“He did, he did. But Father, you should handle Harlin first; I may not be able to act, but that doesn’t mean you can’t. Naturally, the fewer who know about the Secret Realm, the better.”
Hearing Rein’s words, Fude nodded immediately and, with a few bursts of speed, caught up to the fleeing Harlin.
At that moment, Harlin was still savoring the joy of his rebirth.
Suddenly, Fude’s figure appeared in front of him.
Harlin was just reacting and about to speak.
“Spare…”
But Fude’s oppressive aura descended upon him in an instant.
In that moment, Harlin’s bones were crushed by Fude’s overwhelming pressure, and he died instantly.
Harlin’s corpse still held some value in restoring House Gray’s honor.
Otherwise, that single blow would have pulverized him into a mist of blood.
Having retrieved the corpse lying on the ground, Fude flashed back to Rein’s side.
As soon as he returned to Rein’s side, Fude saw Brent and Fabian barraging Rein with questions.
Seeing Fude return, Rein began explaining the matters of the Secret Realm to the three of them.
“This Secret Realm is a trial-type Secret Realm, not the ordinary kind.”
“The trial’s maximum achievable rank is Rank 4.”
“Upon entering the Secret Realm, participants undergo five trials; each successful trial grants them its corresponding opportunity, and failure does not lead to death but instead teleports them out of the Secret Realm.”
All three of them instantly felt their pupils constrict.
It truly was a trial-type Secret Realm.
As the name suggests, a trial-type Secret Realm is primarily centered around trials.
The maximum trial target of Rank 4 means that anyone below Rank 4 can enter and undergo the trials.
The reason trial-type Secret Realms have become renowned is as follows:
Once a Rank 1 warrior entered one, and upon exiting, not only was his talent greatly enhanced, but his strength had also risen to Rank 5.
It was truly a meteoric rise.
“Where is the Secret Realm located, and how many people can enter?”
Fabian asked the most crucial question.
Rein shook his head. “The Secret Realm has no fixed location, but as long as you have the key, you can enter it directly when it opens.”
As soon as his words fell, the three of them furrowed their brows.
There was only one key in Rein’s hands, which meant that only Rein could enter the Secret Realm to undergo the trial.
But Rein’s following words instantly stirred excitement in them.
“The key in my hand can store information for 300 people, and when the Secret Realm opens, those 300 and I can all enter.”
The three of them exchanged glances.
300 people.
That was by no means a small number.
Moreover, only their three houses knew about the Secret Realm at present.
Three hundred spots would be more than enough.
Rein was just about to continue explaining the precautions for the Secret Realm to Fude and the others.
But Fude stopped him.
Although Fude was normally hot-tempered, he was surprisingly meticulous.
He still hadn’t worked out the spot allocations with Brent and Fabian, so discussing the Secret Realm’s details now was premature.
Then the group set off back together.
