South City, First Hospital.
A woman, covered in blood, was rushed into the operating room.
Almost all of the famous doctors from the hospital were present, their brows furrowed, anxious expressions on their faces, their eyes betraying their underlying panic.
Outside the door, a crowd of reporters with long lenses and cameras pressed in, desperately trying to get a glimpse inside. They were using every possible tactic to get the latest news.
It was no wonder these reporters were frantic—the story was huge.
The daughter of the Su family, South City’s top socialite, Su Yanqi, had been found at a café in a dispute with another woman. Somehow, she had fallen to the ground, bleeding profusely. She was rushed to the First Hospital by ambulance.
And the most shocking part? Su Yanqi was eight months pregnant!
The pool of blood was still there, large enough to resemble a small stream, a sight so chilling that even veteran photographers, who had seen countless car accidents, were momentarily stunned and dizzy.
With all this blood lost, could Su Yanqi survive?
Inside the hospital, the doctors were fighting to save her, and even the hospital director had arrived.
“What should we do? There’s no fetal heartbeat, the Doppler doesn’t pick anything up!”
“The heart rate is dropping, 80, 70… down to 40!”
“We can’t save the baby, perform the surgery immediately!”
“Director, the patient is bleeding out—”
Su Yanqi lay in a daze on the operating table, the surgical lights too bright for her to open her eyes, only able to faintly see the shadows of people moving in front of her.
She moved her lips but couldn’t speak, helplessly lying on the cold operating table, her life slowly slipping away.
She couldn’t save the baby, and her own life was hanging by a thread.
Su Yanqi, Su Yanqi… this was the marriage she had forced herself into.
Her mind flashed back to her past with Lu Huaichen:
At 16, Su Yanqi had fallen for Lu Huaichen at first sight. Back then, she was the daughter of the Su family, and he was just a poor student. To protect his dignity, she carefully guarded him.
At 18, Lu Huaichen’s mother fell critically ill. Su Yanqi used her connections to bring in the top heart surgeon in the country and paid 1 million for her hospitalization fees in one go.
That year, Su Yanqi and Lu Huaichen got married.
Everyone said she was using her power to force him into marriage, coercing him to repay her kindness. But Su Yanqi didn’t care. No matter what the outside world said, she just wanted to live her life behind closed doors with him.
She thought that with time, she would eventually warm Lu Huaichen’s heart.
But little did she know, his heart had already been taken by someone else.
No matter how hard she tried, how much she gave, to Lu Huaichen, she was always just a domineering, scheming woman who had broken him and Song Xi apart.
Forget it, she was tired.
Just return Lu Huaichen to her.
The thought made her feel lighter, and the chains that had bound her for so many years disappeared in an instant.
However, in the operating room, the doctor’s expression changed: “Not good, there’s no heartbeat!” The patient’s will to live is weakening.
The director looked grim and barked, “Quickly, find President Lu and get the life-saving pill!”
The life-saving pill had been given to Su Yanqi by her teacher, Professor Chen. It could preserve her life in critical moments, and there was only one in existence.
Outside the operating room.
A slender figure in a custom black suit rushed toward the door—Lu Huaichen.
The man walked quickly, his usually calm and composed face now filled with a hint of anxiety.
“How is she?” His voice, unlike usual, trembled with a low, hoarse tone.
The bodyguards at the hospital mistook his question as being about Song Xi, quickly answering, “Miss Song’s condition is very bad. She fell onto shards of glass, one of which pierced her chest. She is in the operating room right now. The doctors say her injuries are severe, and her body is too weak. We’re afraid she may not make it.”
Lu Huaichen furrowed his brows, speaking in a deep voice, “Send the life-saving pill to Miss Song.”
As soon as the words left his mouth, the doors to the operating room suddenly swung open with a loud sound.
A doctor hurried out, looking panicked. Upon seeing Lu Huaichen, his eyes lit up, and he immediately said, “President Lu, Madam’s condition is very bad. She needs the life-saving pill.”
The bodyguard who had been holding the life-saving pill, intending to send it to Song Xi, paused for a moment and instinctively glanced at Lu Huaichen.
Lu Huaichen also froze for a second. He hadn’t expected Su Yanqi to be in such critical condition too.
Both of them needed the life-saving pill, but there was only one. Lu Huaichen hesitated.
Seeing his hesitation, the doctor urgently said, “President Lu, Madam’s situation is extremely critical. She needs the life-saving pill right now.”
At the doctor’s words, Lu Huaichen immediately lifted his gaze, giving the doctor a suspicious look.
He doubted that the doctor was exaggerating the situation. After all, the First Hospital was owned by the Su family, and all the medical staff here leaned in Su Yanqi’s favor. He couldn’t rule out that they might be inflating the severity of her condition to get the pill.
With this thought, Lu Huaichen stopped hesitating and turned to his bodyguard, “Send it to Miss Song.”
“President Lu!” The doctor’s voice cracked as he instinctively tried to stop the bodyguard, but was blocked by the bodyguard Lu Huaichen had brought.
“President Lu—” The doctor’s eyes were red. “Madam, she… Madam’s condition is really critical!”
Just as the doctor shouted, the lights in the operating room suddenly went out.
Then, a figure was wheeled out, covered with a white cloth from head to toe.
“We’re sorry, we tried our best. President Lu, please accept our condolences.”
