Chapter 71: That’s What You Call “Innocent”?
Zhou Yuèyuè suddenly sat up, her expression changing drastically.
The person who was supposed to show up—shouldn’t it have been Lu Xueting?
Her whole plan had been: she and Lu Zhiqi would “accidentally” sleep together after getting drunk. Only Lu Xueting and Chen Xue would know about it.
She told Chen Xue because she had helped arrange the whole thing and wouldn’t make a fuss. That would also prevent Cheng Yuxiang from bribing her to leave. To protect their family’s reputation, the Lu family would be forced to let her marry in.
As for telling Lu Xueting—it was to get her on her side, so she’d speak favorably to Father Lu. Zhou Yuèyuè could play the “victim” card—being forced into the situation and having no other choice but to marry in. To repay the “favor,” Father Lu would have no choice but to let her in.
That way, not only could she preserve her reputation in the residential compound, but she could also marry into the Lu family without any obstacles. A perfect plan.
But who was the crazy woman shouting outside right now?!
How was she supposed to preserve her reputation now? Being caught in such a public scene like this, it wasn’t just her who would be ruined—Lu Zhiqi’s reputation would go down the drain too! Cheng Yuxiang might even want to kill her after this!
Lin Cuiping, while not a match for Xie Yunshu in an argument, definitely had a loud voice. Her shout of “cheating with a man” wasn’t just heard by the whole residential compound—even people on the other side of the wall, inside the hospital, caught it.
People love a scandal, especially this kind.
And it was just after noon—lunchtime, when everyone was at home except the on-duty nurses. Lin Cuiping’s yelling had drawn a crowd. One after another, people came rushing to Lu’s house—and then they all stood there, stunned.
This was Dr. Lu?
The cold, aloof, respected “flower on a high peak” of the hospital?
And that messy-haired, bare-shouldered woman—wasn’t that Nurse Zhou? The weak, soft-voiced, pitiful “pure little flower”?
My God. What were they witnessing?!
So it was true—Lu Zhiqi and Zhou Yuèyuè were up to no good.
No wonder Xie Yunshu slapped her! Any woman would lose it! If it happened with their own man, forget a slap—they’d tear her apart!
You really never know someone’s true face.
This man they always said was upright and proper—so admired in the hospital—just divorced a few days ago, and already he was in bed with another woman?! And in broad daylight?
Everyone suddenly remembered that Lu Zhiqi had once locked Xie Yunshu in the psych ward for Zhou Yuèyuè’s sake. Later it was found that Zhou Yuèyuè was behind some nurses being mistreated—all to “defend” her.
Shameless. Utterly shameless.
No matter how good Lu Zhiqi’s skills were, or how pitiful Zhou Yuèyuè’s past had been—it didn’t excuse what they had done.
Meanwhile, Lin Cuiping stood with her hands over her eyes—well, half over, peeking through her fingers and watching eagerly.
“I knocked for ages!” she shouted. “You people wouldn’t answer, so I had no choice but to use the spare key! I didn’t want to see anything nasty—I’m still unmarried! This kind of thing is traumatizing!”
Even Zhou Yuèyuè, shameless as she might be, didn’t want to be exposed naked in front of a crowd. She clutched the blanket around herself, screaming, “Who are you? Get out! This is Dr. Lu’s house—GET OUT!”
But Lin Cuiping wasn’t scared of her. All her pent-up rage from being “bullied” by Xie Yunshu now landed on Zhou Yuèyuè.
“I TOLD you I knocked! You two are the ones not wearing clothes—don’t blame me!”
“I’m here to move furniture for Xie Yunshu—honestly! And now you’re yelling at me? HURRY UP and put on some clothes—you’re wasting my time! This mattress was supposed to go too, but now? Disgusting. I don’t want it anymore!”
Amid all the shouting, Lu Zhiqi finally stirred awake. His face turned pale and panicked. He couldn’t decide whether to be more shocked by waking up next to Zhou Yuèyuè—or by the crowd standing outside the room.
In a panic, he yanked the blanket away from Zhou Yuèyuè and wrapped it around himself, barking at the door:
“EVERYONE OUT! WHO LET YOU IN?!”
But the blanket yank caused another problem—Zhou Yuèyuè let out another scream as she fell off the bed, completely naked.
There was a collective gasp from outside, and everyone hurriedly turned their backs.
People liked a good show, but they weren’t without decency.
BANG! Lin Cuiping slammed the door shut—loud enough that everything inside could still be heard clearly.
“You’ve got the nerve to scold me?” she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “You’re the ones getting naked in broad daylight! I’m just a young unmarried girl! You could’ve waited until night when no one’s around! Disgusting! And that witch Xie Yunshu—she definitely did this on purpose! No wonder she paid me thirty yuan so easily! I’m gonna go ask her for thirty more!”
The more she thought about how she used to envy Xie Yunshu for marrying Lu Zhiqi, the more disgusted she became.
Then she brightened—at least now she had something to laugh at Yunshu about forever.
She grinned and pounded on the door again.
“Don’t pretend your legs are too weak to dress! The movers are waiting outside—it’s three yuan a trip! If you delay them, YOU pay!”
Like Xie Yunshu, Lin Cuiping had grown up in the alleys and communal buildings—she’d heard every type of foul-mouthed insult from all the neighborhood aunties. When she laid into someone, she didn’t hold back.
The onlookers could barely suppress their laughter.
Lu Zhiqi had not only done the deed in broad daylight, he’d done it in front of the entire housing complex. His reputation was finished.
As for Zhou Yuèyuè—she used to talk all soft and sweet, acting so weak and innocent. All the men used to say she was “pure,” “pitiful,” and “harmless.”
Yeah right. So “innocent” she ended up in bed with a man.
Back inside, Lu Zhiqi’s face was as cold as ice as he dressed quickly.
He was a doctor—he knew his body had been drugged. He glared at Zhou Yuèyuè, now sobbing on the bed, with disgust and fury.
“Zhou Yuèyuè, you dared drug me?!”
Of course, Zhou Yuèyuè denied it. In this situation, she quickly shoved Chen Xue under the bus as a scapegoat.
“Zhiqi-ge, I swear I didn’t know! Chen Xue gave me the wine—she said it was from Dr. Zhang’s stash, a gift especially for me… I had no idea something was wrong with it. I would never do something like that…”
Chen Xue?
Lu Zhiqi’s face darkened even more.
That Chen Xue had always had issues with Yunshu—she never spoke without a sarcastic edge. But Lu had let it slide before, thinking it was just minor neighborly friction. Since Dr. Zhang was involved, he hadn’t wanted to blow things up.
Yunshu had endured it for his sake. He knew she had been wronged—but he’d chosen to turn a blind eye.
But now?
He never imagined Chen Xue would go so far as to drug him.
Just what the hell were they trying to do?!
