Wasteland Apocalypse Supermarket Management Guide
Wasteland Apocalypse Supermarket Management Guide | Chapter 19: Dry Pot Shrimp

As soon as Wen Yu walked in, customers gathered around her. Some wore expressions of relief like they’d just escaped disaster, others showed deep respect for her sheer power. No one asked about her special abilities out loud, but everyone silently decided they’d be coming to the Oasis Supermarket more often from now on.

“Boss, you’re amazing!”

“Yes, to tame so many mutated butterflies at once—now we don’t have to worry about Oasis Supermarket’s security anymore.”

Wen Yu felt a bit embarrassed by the praise and just smiled and nodded.

After a while of compliments and confirming the safety, the customers gradually left.

The middle-aged man was still immersed in the scene from earlier: the mutated butterflies circling the store owner, some of which looked exactly like the butterflies he had given to his partner.

He seemed to see the child’s mother in the air, looking down with a smile that bent her eyes—just like when they first met.

“Where there’s life, there’s hope. Where there’s life, there’s hope.”

The child was held in his arms, still looking confused but seeming to sense his father’s mixed emotions. The child raised a hand to touch his father’s cheek.

“Just pick out the supplies you need. You have a limit of 500 silver coins, which has been deposited into your account. You can just scan at the self-checkout machine and take your items.”

Wen Yu explained the supply retrieval method to the middle-aged man, then put the unfinished hamburgers back into the refrigerated section, planning to give him one per day.

She thought for a moment and then offered a suggestion.

“There’s a place nearby where you can set up camp. You still have some food stored here, so maybe start by exchanging some basic daily necessities.”

“You probably can’t exchange for more than two anti-radiation suits right now, so it’s okay to wait. The supermarket can process supplies, so you can try bringing anything you find in the desert here.”

“Welcome to Oasis Supermarket~”

The door opened again, and Xu Yang came in with today’s haul. He looked amazed as he wandered all around the store.

“Boss, Oasis Convenience Store has been upgraded to Oasis Supermarket!”

“Yes, there are more types of goods now. The sandwiches you usually buy will be in the discount section so you can save some silver coins for other things.”

“Oh wow, that’s great!”

Wen Yu was setting up an electronic advertisement sign showing that the grand prize had been claimed. Thinking of something, she glanced at the father and son picking supplies, then suddenly looked up and asked,

“Xu Yang, where do you live?”

Xu Yang was still examining the new supplies on the shelves but looked up and pointed toward the south.

“There’s an abandoned building about one kilometer south. I’m the only one living there now. It’s quite spacious.”

The middle-aged man approached with his chosen items. Hearing this, he studied Xu Yang for a long moment and couldn’t help but speak.

“Hey, little brother, can I come live there too?”

Xu Yang looked at the father and son with some doubt, then glanced at Wen Yu.

Wen Yu explained, “These two, like you, came from the central base and can’t go back.”

“No problem, no problem! Come live with me. I’ll show you the way.”

The middle-aged man packed some basic daily necessities into his backpack and took two protective helmets and raincoats to block outdoor radiation.

They exchanged names: the middle-aged man was Yu Shun, and the boy was Yu Jing.

After Xu Yang finished buying his supplies, the three of them left together.

In the afternoon, more than twenty customers arrived, and time passed quickly.

Wen Yu gradually became familiar with the updated supermarket and found that apart from the lottery system, the store basically did not require staff supervision, which was very convenient.

After the last group of customers returned to the central base, news about the Oasis supermarket owner’s ability to tame mutated animals spread around. Many teams gathered together, discussing whether this news was true or not.

“Taming mutated animals? Never heard of that.”

Inside a residential building, a ten-person exploration team was stationed. At the end of the day, they were eating together.

The team leader chewed on a straw, trying to suppress his craving for a smoke.

“That supermarket does have plenty of supplies, but they’re all things from before the apocalypse. Taming mutated animals… that’s some kind of supernatural ability, right? Have humans evolved behind our backs?”

“There are plenty of powerful people in the base. Even the city lord couldn’t do that. You really think some small supermarket owner has that ability?”

“I don’t believe it.”

A younger team member nearby scratched his head and whispered with clear eyes.

“I once traded for a book at the market, something like ‘After Entering the Apocalypse, the Female Special Forces Soldier Revolutionizes the Power-Wielding World Through Farming’—what do you think…?”

The team leader showed a look of disbelief.

“Stop reading all that nonsense.”

“But still, we should check out this Oasis supermarket for ourselves.”

At six in the evening, Wen Yu’s furry army gathered punctually at the entrance.

Tianbing remained aloof but was the first to arrive, followed closely by Hongye, whose three big tails flicked the yellow dust, which quickly settled back into a bright maple red.

The mutated butterfly swarm arrived late, spreading out to hover above the supermarket. Wen Yu looked up, feeling a bit of a headache.

Feeding them was easy enough, but the space in front of the supermarket was small. It couldn’t hold over a thousand mutated butterflies, and letting them roam around would definitely scare off customers.

Wen Yu petted Hongye’s head, zoning out for a moment, and decided it was better to think about what to eat first.

The butterflies weren’t picky eaters—they would eat any kind of meat. Fortunately, there was still a large pile of mutated meat in the fridge, which she threw into the automatic fryer to make meat patties.

As for the crimson fox and silver wolf, they would have something fresh today: a specialty dish, dry pot shrimp.

Fresh green shrimp were cleaned and deveined, then cut open along the back and marinated for fifteen minutes with cooking wine and starch.

Lotus root slices, cucumber, and sweet potato were cut into strips and fried until crispy outside but tender inside. Wen Yu couldn’t resist pinching a piece and putting it in her mouth.

The sweet potato fries weren’t too sweet but soft enough. As soon as she tasted it, her eyes lit up.

“Delicious!”

Half a pot of oil was heated, then the marinated shrimp were fried until golden. Wen Yu used a large slotted spoon to scoop them all up—a whole pot yielded a big bowl.

The used oil pot was placed in the dishwasher for automatic cleaning. She switched to the other stove burner.

Into the hot pan with cold oil, she added chopped scallions, ginger, and garlic, along with dried chili peppers and Sichuan peppercorns for fragrance. After frying the red chili bean paste, she added the green shrimp and other ingredients, stir-fried a few times, then added the seasoning packet.

Two tablespoons of soy sauce, half a tablespoon of oyster sauce, and a big spoon of sugar were added, stirred evenly, and the dish was done.

Dinner for one person and two beasts was ready.

The rice steamed perfectly too, fragrant Wuchang rice with each grain distinct.

Wen Yu served herself first, then divided the rest equally between Hongye and Tianbing, making sure the amount of shrimp was exactly the same on both sides.

Fair treatment.

She took a bite first—spicy, fragrant, and fresh. The shrimp shells were crispy and broke easily when bitten, the meat tender and firm thanks to its freshness.

The sides complemented perfectly, the sweet and salty sweet potato sticks, crunchy lotus root, and crisp cucumber paired well with the rice, making it hard to stop eating.

Wen Yu carried the prepared meal outside. Hongye and Tianbing stood obediently by the door, their eyes lighting up as they smelled the aroma of the food.

“Eat up, eat up~”

At her command, the two furry ones immediately buried their heads and started eating. Tianbing’s slender pupils turned into happy round shapes, looking a bit dazed.

Wen Yu couldn’t help but reach out and gently rub it. Hongye, busy eating but eager for attention, grabbed a shrimp and nuzzled her, satisfied after a pat on the head, then went back to her meal.

Within three to five minutes, the feeding bowls were empty. The once lively Hongye now lay contentedly to the side, its previous energy completely gone. All three of its tails drooped on the ground, occasionally brushing the floor with a slight wag.

Tianbing tried to maintain its aloof demeanor but had let down its guard, staying close to Wen Yu without moving.

“Come on, follow me to set up your nest out back.”

All four ears perked up in unison. Hongye let out a soft howl and leapt toward Wen Yu.

They walked toward the back. Xiao Xin came out from the supermarket and began cleaning the front entrance where the mutated butterfly swarm had eaten.

The shelter at the back was big enough to hold three or four large mutated animals like the crimson fox. Wen Yu planned the layout, laying down thick, soft mats and making separate spaces so each animal had its own private area.

On the left was for the crimson fox. Fueled by enthusiasm, it ordered a large batch of oversized toys through the control panel. A five-meter tall cat climbing frame was quickly set up neatly. Hongye curiously scratched the sisal rope on a post, eyes wide with surprise.

There were no signs of any damage.

As an A-grade mutated animal, the crimson fox’s claws were extremely sharp—hardly anything could resist its grip. Wen Yu smiled, stroking the tip of its tail.

“System quality. Just go play, don’t worry~”

Hongye let out two soft whimpers and, with a few swift movements, climbed to the top of the frame. It lay steadily on the highest perch, squinting its eyes and stretching lazily.

On the right was for the silver wolf. Wen Yu was a fair owner; whatever toys Hongye had, Tianbing shouldn’t miss out.

But Tianbing seemed uninterested in the small toys. It ignored the flying discs, tennis balls, and chew toys, hiding in the shadows beneath the shelter, its emerald eyes watching the surroundings without blinking.

Seeing that both had found their favorite spots, Wen Yu relaxed. After playing with Hongye for a while, she returned to the front.

The mutated butterfly swarm had finished eating and hovered motionless in the sky.

Wen Yu felt a bit troubled. The mutated butterflies had grown quite large and had long fangs. Leaving them near the supermarket would inevitably affect business.

It would be better if they looked prettier…

Suddenly, she remembered she had upgraded her purification skill and slapped her forehead.

“Oh right, why don’t I just purify all of you!”

Wen Yu waved her hand. The mutated butterflies lined up neatly to receive the owner’s purification.

Thousands of butterflies formed an orderly line in the air, a spectacular scene. The butterflies at the back, not yet in line, chatted with their companions and even formed a heart shape.

Wen Yu smiled and soon finished purifying the whole swarm.

After purification, the mutated butterflies shrank to about half their size, their fangs disappeared, and they looked like the beautiful butterflies she had seen in the zoo in her previous life.

She nodded with satisfaction. Now, even if they all landed on the supermarket walls, they wouldn’t look strange.

The butterflies landed on the walls and roof of the Oasis Supermarket. The originally pale green walls blossomed with shimmering flowers. Upon closer look, the beautiful flowers were fluttering their wings, forming a unique picture.

Wen Yu admired the butterfly wings for a moment. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Xiao Xin working hard.

The cleaning robot gathered a pile of trash and was about to destroy it all when Wen Yu spotted something.

She quickly called out to Xiao Xin.

“Wait a moment!”
