Chapter 30: Lin Weimin, how could you do this to me?
“That girl is so scheming for her age.”
“She’s so good at playing the victim, she must have done this before.”
“That mother and daughter are terrible, what kind of life did Yiwan have!”
…
Hearing the whispers, Lin Yirou realized she’d been tricked. Her face turned pale, looking awful. Song Huaiqing, still in the motion of supporting her, looked shocked.
“Yi…Yirou, you weren’t really unconscious?” She had faked it?
Seeing his disappointed expression, Lin Yirou’s face turned even paler! She stamped her foot, covered her face, and ran off crying.
But her act was too memorable; no one sympathized with her.
Lin Yiwan, a mocking smile on her lips, said, “I felt sorry for her ‘weak’ health and was going to give her the job and go to the countryside for her.
But she wrongly accused me and wouldn’t apologize. I have no reason to give her the job.”
Tan Qiuyue panicked. “But…but we agreed! The job transfer is today.”
Lin Yirou sneered. “I came to ask her to transfer the job, but you wronged me. Why should I still give her the job? Am I a fool?”
The onlookers sympathized with Lin Yiwan. “It’s sad for a girl without a mother. Almost losing her job and being falsely accused of theft.”
“I told you Tan Qiuyue was two-faced, you didn’t believe me. Now you see her true colors!”
Because of Tan Qiuyue’s past boasting, everyone pointed at her, their words filled with disdain.
Tan Qiuyue’s head buzzed. “No! It shouldn’t be like this!” She should be in jail, and her daughter should have the job. Why had everything changed?
Suddenly, she knelt down. “Wanwan, please, give the job to Yirou. She’s weak and can’t handle the countryside.”
Looking at Tan Qiuyue’s moral blackmail, Lin Yiwan narrowed her eyes. “The feudal empire is gone, why are you kneeling? Trying to restore feudalism?”
Lin Weimin’s face changed! He pulled Tan Qiuyue up. “Tan Qiuyue, stop embarrassing yourself! Yirou is weak, but is Wanwan much stronger?
She fainted twice at home! How would she manage in the countryside?”
Lin Yiwan wasn’t moved, she almost laughed. He knew she fainted. He knew everything, yet let them force her to give up her job and go to the countryside. Lin Yiwan had severe menstrual cramps, fainting several times.
Tan Qiuyue couldn’t believe Lin Weimin’s 180-degree turn. He was forcing her to apologize and defending Lin Yiwan, letting his daughter go to the countryside!
“Lin Weimin, how can you be so cruel? Yirou is your…”
Lin Weimin interrupted sharply, “Tan Qiuyue!” The fact that Lin Yirou was his biological daughter had to remain secret; otherwise, he’d lose his job.
Though both were his daughters, he was pragmatic. Lin Yirou had been closer to Song Huaiqing, so he favored her.
But now Lin Yiwan had a stronger connection, Lin Yirou became insignificant.
Tan Qiuyue’s anger subsided. Yirou’s secret couldn’t be revealed. She wasn’t a widow; she’d had Lin Weimin before her husband died.
But she couldn’t let her daughter go to the countryside! Her son had already gone; if her daughter went too, it would kill her.
“Weimin, please, persuade Wanwan to give the job to Yirou.” She pleaded tearfully.
The onlookers were shocked by her shamelessness.
“There are such shameless people!”
“I can’t believe what I’m hearing!”
“Her daughter is precious, others’ daughters are nothing?”
Lin Weimin still had feelings for Tan Qiuyue. Seeing her cry, he softened his voice. But his words almost made her faint!
“Qiuyue, the countryside is good, it builds character and the nation. Yirou has this opportunity, we should be happy for her.”
“Lin Weimin! You’re so cruel! How can you do this to me?” Tan Qiuyue sat down, lamenting.
Lin Yiwan, ignoring them, explained to the police that she needed to retrieve her mother’s belongings. “Please witness this, to prevent false accusations of theft.”
The police agreed. They were eager to make amends after almost offending her. “Certainly, comrade, we’ll accompany you.”
Lin Weimin panicked when he heard she was taking Zhao Fanghua’s belongings. “Wan…Wanwan, what are you doing?”
If she took her things, was she cutting ties? That wouldn’t do! He couldn’t let her go after she’d secured a powerful connection.
Lin Yiwan intended to collect her mother’s belongings, planning to take her room’s things first and the rest later. But after being wrongly accused, she didn’t want to return.
“I’m moving my mother’s things to West Street. Should I leave them here to be robbed and blamed?”
Lin Weimin’s face fell. “Wanwan, I’m sorry, don’t move, let’s talk.”
But before he reached her, a military arm blocked him.
“Stay back.” Lin Weimin stopped.
