Chapter 24: The Third Son Forcefully Protects His Wife
Old Lady Mu meant to scold Su Tang when she destroyed the flowers, but unexpectedly, it involved the second son’s family.
Thinking of the second son’s temper…
Old Lady Mu’s heart pounded!
Then Su Tang’s relentless scolding made her head spin.
“Fine, I’ll compensate! So annoying!” Old Lady Mu conceded angrily and hurried to the kitchen.
She used busyness to mask her inner panic.
Sigh, which mother is so afraid of her son? But she was, strangely enough!
With five sons and two daughters, she only feared the second son!
Su Tang had won the argument, but still felt sorry for the flowers, so she squatted down to pick them up.
The yard was muddy, though packed down hard, it was still dusty after a brush. Occasionally, there were chicken and duck droppings that hadn’t been swept away.
Su Tang was used to the clean steel and concrete city and hadn’t fully adapted to this era.
After picking up two handfuls of flowers, she dejectedly threw them back on the ground.
“Don’t pick them up, I’ll pick more at noon.” A large hand with distinct knuckles reached out and pulled her up.
“Husband…”
Su Tang was so wronged, her crimson lips pursed into a line, wanting to cry.
“Cry!” Mu Jingzhou’s heart melted, pulling her into his arms.
Su Tang really cried: “Wuu…”
Yu Miaomiao twitched her eyes.
The sugar with a hint of tea was invincible. Was Mu Jingzhou’s heart moved? Did he feel that the sugar in his arms was sweeter than his white moonlight?
Old Man Mu’s eyes were about to pop out!
But his wife had just caused trouble, and if he were to flare up, it would only add fuel to the fire. He simply went to the kitchen as well, out of sight, out of mind!
Unexpectedly, after a while, Mu Jingzhou also followed into the kitchen.
“Mother, don’t treat Su Tang like that anymore.” Mu Jingzhou said with a gloomy face.
Old Lady Mu, who was stir-frying vegetables, paused her movements: “Don’t you see what she’s doing? She’s making a mess with those broken flowers, saying she’s making soap, the whole village is laughing at us. I’ve lost all face!”
“Whatever Su Tang does, I allow it. Mother, don’t touch her things again.” Mu Jingzhou’s tone was cold and unyielding.
“Third son, are you going to defy your mother too?” Old Man Mu couldn’t bear it any longer and roared.
Mu Jingzhou said, “Mother was the one who touched her things first.”
“But she’s your mother! How did I raise you? You dare to shout at your own mother!”
“Father, everything should be fair. Justice prevails, injustice cannot stand! Today, Mother was wrong!”
“…”
Old Man Mu roared, and Mu Jingzhou roared back.
The smoke-filled kitchen was like two bombs about to explode.
Li Lan lowered her head to add firewood, thinking to herself: How did the third son become as scary as the second son?
Old Lady Mu, seeing her son’s behavior, was overcome with grief.
She threw down the spatula and sat on the ground, weeping loudly: “What kind of people have I raised? They dare to talk back to their parents, I should have just strangled them at birth…”
Su Tang and Yu Miaomiao looked at each other in the yard.
Which is more terrifying, a psychopath or obsessive love?
Both seem pretty scary…
“Let’s go back to the room and stay out of it, and go to the county town for meat and lard in the afternoon.” Su Tang decided to avoid the conflict, lest they be affected by the war.
Yu Miaomiao thought of the braised pork rice at the state-run restaurant and was also craving it.
But her foot wasn’t healed yet, she couldn’t go to the county town.
“It’s okay, I’ll take you on my bike!” Su Tang patted her chest and said.
Yu Miaomiao sighed: “Forget it, you go by yourself. Buy the lard and start making soap, and slap their faces sooner.”
“Then I’ll bring you food, do you have a lunchbox in your room?” Su Tang asked.
Yu Miaomiao usually didn’t touch Mu Jingyun’s things, so she didn’t know if there was a lunchbox.
Just as she was about to hobble to look for one, Mu Jingzhou’s voice came from outside: “Second sister-in-law, is Su Tang in your room?”
“Yes.”
“Let her come out.”
“Okay.”
As soon as Su Tang went out, she was pulled away by Mu Jingzhou.
“Third brother, where are we going?”
“County town?”
“Huh?”
Mu Jingzhou had long legs and took big strides, Su Tang was forced to jog.
Old Man Mu and Old Lady Mu stretched their necks from the kitchen to look at them and scolded: “Forget it if you don’t want to eat!”
“Third brother, didn’t you eat?” Su Tang asked.
“No.”
“Did you quarrel with Dad and Mom because of me?”
“Yes.”
Su Tang looked at Mu Jingzhou’s tense profile and decided to try some sweet talk.
“Third brother, you made me so touched…”
Mu Jingzhou paused.
“Third brother, thank you for protecting me. My father said that as long as there is a husband’s favor, even if the in-laws are unreasonable, it can be forgiven. Third brother, I’ll apologize to Dad and Mom later, let’s be a harmonious family, don’t be angry, okay?”
Su Tang said the softest words in a sweet voice, Mu Jingzhou’s heart felt sweet and very useful.
“But Third brother, why are we going to the county town?” Su Tang asked nervously.
She wanted to go to the county town to eat meat, would it be convenient for Mu Jingzhou to go with her?
He lived frugally, while she didn’t work and still wanted to eat meat. Even if it was Old Su’s money, she still felt a little guilty.
“To eat meat!” Mu Jingzhou said.
Su Tang’s eyes widened: “!!!”
He was also craving meat?
Mu Jingzhou borrowed a bicycle from Gao Ming, took Su Tang to the city, and went straight to the state-run restaurant.
“What do you want to eat?” Mu Jingzhou looked up at the menu and swallowed.
When could he eat meat every day?
Su Tang thought for a moment and said, “Third brother, you order! I can eat anything.”
“Then, stir-fried pig liver? Liver nourishes blood, it’s good for your dizziness.”
Su Tang was stunned, she never expected Mu Jingzhou to be so considerate, her eyes couldn’t help but turn red.
“Anything else you want to eat?” Mu Jingzhou asked.
“Let’s have some braised pork! Third brother, you have to work in the fields, eat some fatty meat.”
So, Mu Jingzhou ordered stir-fried pig liver, braised pork, and two bowls of rice.
He didn’t want to eat the pig liver, so he picked out all the liver slices and put them in Su Tang’s bowl, and he ate the remaining scallions and ginger.
Even though the braised pork was ordered for him, half of it ended up in Su Tang’s bowl.
It was heartbreaking to watch.
Su Tang scooped half of the rice from her bowl into the braised pork bowl and handed it over: “Third brother, you eat.”
“You…”
“I can’t eat that much rice.”
Su Tang smiled sweetly.
Mu Jingzhou only felt his eyes blur, and his mind was also swaying.
However, he really wasn’t full, so he took it and ate it in big mouthfuls.
Su Tang saw him eating so contentedly and asked, “Third brother, have you ever been to a state-run restaurant before?”
“No.”
Such a big man probably hadn’t eaten so luxuriously since he was a child.
Although most people in this era were like this, but Su Tang looked at him and thought of herself in the first year of junior high school when she didn’t have enough living expenses and could only eat potatoes and cabbage every day.
Her heart ached uncontrollably.
“Third brother, when I make money selling soap, I’ll treat you to ten big meat meals at the state-run restaurant! All you can eat!” Su Tang said forcefully.
Mu Jingzhou smiled.
She was the first woman besides Mingzhu who said she wanted to treat him to a big meat meal!
“Let’s go, let’s buy lard.” Mu Jingzhou got up and said.
Su Tang opened her mouth in surprise: “Third brother, you brought me to the county town to buy oil?”
“Yes. It’s a good day to go to the market to buy things.” Mu Jingzhou said, taking out two meat tickets.
One for two pounds, one for three pounds.
“Is that enough?”
“Enough, enough, enough!”
