Chapter 92 : Proving Nie Tian’s Ability
When Nangong Ruochen saw Yun Siying, he immediately stood up with energy.
“Siying, come sit down quickly,” he said, then skillfully picked up an enamel mug and made her a cup of malted milk.
Nangong Ruoyi’s eye twitched slightly. This younger brother of his was hopeless. He hadn’t even made a cup for his own elder brother, he clearly treated people differently. And judging by his smooth movements, this wasn’t the first time he had done this.
Even more frustrating, that little girl Yun Siying drank it without a second thought, obviously used to being cared for by his brother. But the girl didn’t realize she’d already fallen into the trap of a cunning big bad wolf.
People always said he was sly and calculating, but in reality, his younger brother was just as scheming and even more shameless. If someone offended him, he’d beat them openly and also secretly set them up. A true two-faced attack.
After taking a sip of the malted milk, Nangong Ruochen asked gently, “Siying, if there’s anything you want to say, just tell me. If I can’t help, my brother can.”
Yun Siying then told them everything she had seen and heard on the mountain. Nangong Ruoyi looked at her suspiciously. Was this girl messing with them? From her description, it sounded like she had X-ray vision and clairvoyance straight out of legend.
Before he could speak, Nangong Ruochen was already convinced. “Siying, can you draw the locations of the cave exits?”
“Sure.”
Nangong Ruochen immediately took out pen and paper, but Nangong Ruoyi stopped him.
“What are you two doing? One dares to make it up, and the other dares to believe it.”
“Brother, Siying wouldn’t lie to us. She really does have this ability but don’t tell anyone else, or it’ll bring her trouble,” Nangong Ruochen warned, then explained how they had accidentally stumbled into the human traffickers’ hideout a few days earlier.
“Little Siying, do you really have that kind of ability?” Nangong Ruoyi still looked skeptical.
“Well, if you don’t believe me, why not test it?” Yun Siying replied, rolling her eyes at him knowingly.
“Fine, I’ll go out for a bit. Watch me closely and tell me everything I do when I get back.” Nangong Ruoyi said as he grabbed his bicycle and rode away.
As soon as he left the Youth House, he was stopped by a female comrade. He reluctantly braked and asked politely, “Comrade, is something the matter?”
The young woman smiled awkwardly and blushed. “Hello, comrade. My name is Xue Min… do you have a partner?”
Nangong Ruoyi’s eyes flickered with mild disgust. He could see the desire in her eyes clearly, but he still kept his tone gentle. “No.”
“Really? I graduated from junior high and I think I look okay… what do you think of me?” Xue Min asked shyly, glancing at him with a voice so soft it was barely audible.
“What do you mean?” Nangong Ruoyi feigned confusion, slowly pushing his bicycle a few steps away from her.
“I mean… what do you think about us being together?” Xue Min asked, her face flushing even redder, nervously fidgeting with the hem of her shirt. This was the boldest thing she had ever done.
“What? Comrade, don’t mess with me. I may not have a girlfriend, but I do have a wife and several children.” With that, he got on his bicycle and rode off without a backward glance.
“What?! You’re married and already have kids?” Xue Min was stunned. She stomped her foot angrily and left in a huff.
Back at the Youth House, Yun Siying burst out laughing. She was certain he’d done it on purpose but she had to admit, his retreating figure on the bike was quite a sight to see.
Just as his bike reached the river, he saw a female comrade who had twisted her ankle and fallen into the water. He immediately braked and shouted, “Someone fell into the river, help! Come quick!”
Liu Qingqing was flailing in the water, waiting for the handsome man on the shore to come to her rescue. When she saw him stop his bicycle, she felt secretly pleased. But the moment she heard his loud shout, her expression froze.
Nangong Ruoyi didn’t miss the change on her face. He’d seen plenty of these tricks before. With his background and looks, there were always female comrades trying to get close to him. He’d experienced every tactic in the book.
His shout drew the attention of a local fool. When Liu Qingqing saw who was running over, she immediately gave up pretending and swam to shore quickly.
By the time the fool arrived at the riverbank, Liu Qingqing was already out of the water and she shot Nangong Ruoyi a vicious glare.
Nangong Ruoyi, however, only smiled back gently and harmlessly. But in truth, he was just as scheming. He casually tossed a stone from his hand and hit the fool’s knee.
The fool lost his balance and stumbled forward. Liu Qingqing, still glaring at Nangong Ruoyi, was knocked into the river by him. The fool also fell in, and instinctively, Liu Qingqing clung to him.
Other villagers began arriving and happened to witness the entire scene. Realizing she was being watched, Liu Qingqing quickly pushed the fool away and swam back to shore alone. The weather was hot, and her thin clothes were completely soaked, clinging tightly to her body and revealing every curve.
As she heard a few vulgar comments and whistles from some men nearby, Liu Qingqing realized her state and immediately wrapped her arms around her chest and ran off toward the Youth House in tears.
Nangong Ruoyi watched the scene unfold and then rode back to the Youth House. He sighed inwardly ’Women in this country are terrifying. It’s like being surrounded by monsters and demons.’ He felt like a piece of Tang Monk meat being chased.
He had originally planned to ride a bit farther before heading back, but now he gave up. Who knew what other “demons” might be lurking, waiting to prey on him? When he returned to the village with his younger brother earlier, those female comrades were annoying, but none of them dared approach.
‘I have to ask my brother how he handles them. He looks even better than I do. Even though he’s not well-liked in the compound, doesn’t that make him a bit of a notorious devil?’
In the army, he always kept his distance from the performing arts soldiers and never went out alone, so the female comrades rarely dared to strike up a conversation with him.
As soon as Nangong Ruoyi entered the room, he saw Yun Siying watching him with obvious amusement in her eyes. Annoyed, he asked, “All right, tell me what exactly did I do while I was out?”
Yun Siying stopped laughing and recounted everything she had seen him do, her tone animated and detailed, making it feel like the listener had been there watching it all unfold.
As she spoke, Nangong Ruochen couldn’t help but burst into laughter. Meanwhile, Nangong Ruoyi’s expression darkened more and more as he listened. But when he remembered the real purpose of his outing, that it was to verify Yun Siying’s abilities, he was suddenly relieved. Everything she said had been accurate. That meant she really did have an extraordinary power. This realization made him happy though anger and worry soon followed.
He was furious at how the vile foreign forces were hurting his compatriots, and also deeply concerned for their safety.
“Siying,” he said seriously, “please draw us a map.”
“Okay.” Yun Siying focused and started drawing. The brothers didn’t disturb her. After a while, she finished a simple map and handed it to Nangong Ruochen.
“I knocked Li Gang out, tied him up, and hid him in the mountains,” she added. “When are you planning to take him away?”
