Chapter 101 : The Devil
The Wang family must also realize that the people of the Hongxing Brigade are not to be messed with. The captain said happily, “I mean, it’s really embarrassing. Over thirty men couldn’t handle a single girl. And you have the nerve to talk about it? I’m embarrassed just hearing it.”
The villagers and educated youth all nodded and laughed. “Hahaha…” No one objected.
“Captain, isn’t Yun Siying fine? But my brother, nephew, and son are all injured. She has to pay for their medical expenses!” Wang Xiutao was no longer afraid. She felt that with the captain there, Yun Siying wouldn’t dare lay a hand on her.
“Wang Xiutao, what medical expenses are you talking about? Hasn’t the Wang family always relied on violence?” The captain immediately snapped back. “You beat people when you felt like it. That’s how it’s always been.”
“How can you be like this?” Wang Xiutao felt very wronged. She wasn’t used to being treated this way.
“Xiutao, I say let this matter drop. But if you’re still not satisfied, then we’ll just have Yun Siying beat them up again. As long as she doesn’t kill them just injure or disable them, she’ll pay their medical expenses. But Yun Siying is an orphan and has no money, so you’ll just have to accept your bad luck.” The captain said this without sparing a glance at the increasingly sour expressions of the Wang family.
“Yes! Xiutao, your family has always treated people from our village like this. Isn’t Li Sanguai’s leg still lame?”
“We all agree with the captain. Your Wang family never paid a cent for Li Sanguai’s medical bills!”
“That’s right, that’s right! Do as the captain says. This is how the Wang family usually does things. Now that the tables are turned, you have no right to object!”
Wang Xiutao’s eldest brother now spoke up. “We demand that Yun Siying pay for our medical expenses. If not, we’ll call the police.”
When Yun Siying heard this, she burst out laughing. Noticing everyone looking at her, she stood up and said, “Let’s go. I’ll go with you.”
The captain knew that there were four educated youths in the brigade who were assisting the police, three of whom were officers. Seeing how confident Yun Siying was, he braced himself. “Wang Daniu, let’s go. I’ll have the brigade’s ox cart and tractor take you to report it to the police.”
The Wang family was stunned. This wasn’t the reaction they expected! In the past, the captain was the one most afraid of anything being reported to the police, worrying it might affect the brigade’s evaluations. But today, he didn’t seem afraid at all?
Yun Siying was very cooperative. “Captain, I’ll go get the tractor now. Let’s head straight to the police station.”
The Wang family panicked when they saw she was serious. Wang Daniu quickly said, “Don’t go! We don’t want Yun Siying to pay compensation.” They’d clearly miscalculated. They hadn’t expected to run into someone who could actually fight back and even less that Captain Li would be so bold.
Hearing this, the captain had mixed feelings. Only now did he realize that the Wang family was also afraid of calling the police. But before, he had been too worried about the brigade’s reputation and had been taken advantage of. Thinking back, he regretted it so much he felt sick to his stomach.
Yun Siying raised her eyebrows and said, “Actually, I’m not unreasonable. Since we’re all from the same country, I’ll set your arm back in place.”
After saying that, she walked up to Wang Daniu. His body flinched instinctively. Yun Siying smiled and began resetting his arm. With a loud “crack,” he let out a piercing scream “Ah!” but the arm was successfully put back in place.
“Try it, can you move your hand?” Yun Siying asked kindly.
Wang Daniu tried, and to his surprise, he could actually raise his arm. It didn’t hurt at all, and he could swing it freely. “My hand moves! And it doesn’t hurt at all!”
Just as he finished speaking, Yun Siying quickly grabbed the same arm she had just reconnected and said seriously, “Hmm, I think the alignment isn’t perfect yet. Let’s try again.”
With another “crack”, there was a second “ahhh!” scream, and the newly connected arm dropped limp again.
“Don’t worry, I’ll definitely get it right this time. I have high standards and can’t accept anything less than perfect. Don’t worry, I’ve got plenty of time today. If I have to do this a few more times, so be it.” The more Yun Siying spoke, the wider her smile grew.
Wang Daniu’s face turned pale with fear. He stumbled back several steps and pleaded, “Please let me go! I really don’t need you to pay me, and I really don’t need you to reconnect my arm!”
The villagers watching this scene began to think that Wang Xiutao might have been right, Yun Siying really was a little devil. Everything she did just now was clearly intentional, meant to torment Wang Daniu. But oddly enough, they couldn’t bring themselves to dislike her in fact they even found the whole thing a little satisfying. What was going on?
“Are you sure you don’t regret it?” Yun Siying asked, more seriously this time.
“Absolutely sure! Completely serious!” Wang Daniu shouted, then bolted from the Youth Courtyard. ‘Good grief,’ he thought, ‘this educated youth girl is terrifying.’
Yun Siying watched him run off and nodded in satisfaction. Turning to the crowd, she said, “If anyone else needs a reset, come on up. I’m still refining my technique, so with a few more practice runs, I’ll get better and better. No need to be shy.”
Now, even the crowd started to pity the Wang family. This was blatant intimidation. That dislocation and reset earlier had been done in one smooth, practiced motion, she was clearly using it as a form of punishment.
“My arm doesn’t need to be reset,” a young man suddenly stood up and said before turning and running out of the Youth Courtyard.
Seeing that Yun Siying didn’t stop him, the others followed. First one, then two, then the rest of the Wang family fled one after another. Wang Xiutao’s seven sons also all declared they didn’t need help and didn’t want medical compensation. They remained in the courtyard, though, still waiting for their mother.
Wang Xiutao stood helpless, watching it all unfold. She didn’t want her brother, nephew, or sons to suffer through more of this torment. But thinking of the 200 yuan, she still stubbornly turned to Yun Siying and said, “Yun Siying, you hit me in the face. You should compensate me for that, shouldn’t you?”
“I hit you because you started rumors and falsely accused me, ruining my reputation. What’s wrong with me hitting you?” Yun Siying replied, completely unfazed. In fact, she admired how shameless this woman was. She wouldn’t even mind giving her a few more slaps.
“I only said a few words, and you’re perfectly fine, aren’t you? But my face is actually hurt, and it still stings. You should pay for that.” Wang Xiutao ignored the subtle tugs from her sons trying to get her to stop, they knew that if she kept pushing, things could get worse.
“Captain,” Yun Siying said with a smile, turning to the captain, “do you think one yuan for her medical expenses is enough?”
“It’s enough,” the captain replied, and without another word, he turned and left.
